The general consensus everywhere I've been is that people in Quebec just aren't as friendly as they are in other place. Maybe they're just not friendly to everyone who isn't from Quebec. Although, I didn't see any evidence to really support any of that when I was there before Christmas.

Yeah, I've heard that from several people who have been to Quebec as well. They didn't like it, and it wasn't just the language barrier. I've never been there, myself.

Well, I don't know much about the rest of Quebec, but Montreal is actually composed of 2 types of people. The first one being the pure Quebecors [they mostly reside in the east of the city] who unappreciates all form of english and the rest of Canada. However, I find that these type of people are the kinder ones. Very unjudgemental [apart from the language], very open [apart from the language], etc. [apart from the language]. The other type are the more English people in Montreal [overpopulating the west side of the city]. They boast, they ridicule the frenchies, they damn this province that they live in, they desire to move into another province, etc.. etc.. I find that these people are very snob [there are many exceptions], but eh[exclamation mark] what can I say since I am more inclined to label myself as more English than French. Apart from this fact, Quebecors ARE extremely nice people who takes poutine as their daily dose of drug.

I just watched a Nickleback video on much (Yeah, I know. Not usually the most inspirational source of ... whatever).
"If everyone cared"
I was genuinely moved.
What a shock.

We've all got our provincial stereotypes to digest. Ultimately I think it's just a farce, a sweeping generalizing that brackets everyone under different perjorative headings.
"Newfie", for example, is derogatory term in many respects. It's used in referal to the numerous stereotyped slapped on the people of our province as being stupid, drunken, brawling fisherman who are out of work. It's false, but there's still some truth to it. Cod was the preeminent industry for this island, and when the moratorium hit there were a lot of displaced workers. Who do nothing but b***h about something in the past, and refuse to move ahead.
Typically older people. But there's truth to it.
Just as I'm sure there are incestual relationships in Alabama, gay couples in San Fransico, and rude people in Quebec. For example, some seperatists are hostile toward Canada. There's an air of supremacy there.
But I'm biased when it comes to the separatist issue. xp There's a very small separatist movement in Newfoundland, which I also dislike.

The separatists in Quebec piss me off. That's about it.
Other then that, the people I have never really found rude. There are rude people all over Canada, not just in Quebec. I think people give all people from the Quebec region a bad name because some of the province wants to separate. Grouping people in one category is a bad thing. That also pisses me off.
As for Newfies? I love Newfies. All the jokes about Newfies being stupid are just for fun. I doubt many people think that just because you are Newfie, you are stupid. Even the Newfies laugh at the jokes. Actually, most of my Newfie friends are quite smart, so I have never thought that. Plus, I so wish I had a cool accent like them. I am so envious.
...I said Newfie a lot in that paragraph x.x

How did not know that? My mom's a 'lander. Doesn't like "Newfoundlander". We all call her our Newf. Or Newfie. It's what she calls herself so...
