calypso-maru umaeril Very interesting. Well I will have to mull that over a bit. Quite the cultural difference. I think all Americans should be exposed to other countries and other ways of doing things. We are too insular. But of course not all Americans have the means to visit other cultures. And some are just plain stupid anyhow, like people everywhere. Sorry, went on a bit of a tangent there. ^^
blaugh Well, I guess we Filipinos have an advantage on that part..coz we can expose ourselves to your culture even if we don't have the means to go there, through media..most of your shows there are also shown here..and because most of the Filipinos understands English (because it's in our curriculum since Prep School), it's easier for us to adapt to your culture..that's why most of us would rather be there than in other countries coz we feel we can adapt in the US more..
On the otherhand, even if some of our shows are being aired there, it'll be difficult still to understand because of the language barrier..
...and yeah, MTV is the Devil! rofl
MTV, lol! I was in Asia..I think in Thailand (not that I have been anywhere other than Thailand and Nepal) and I was amazed that MTV was still playing music. Seems here that it is mostly just Road Rules and other reality shows and talk talk talk. I don't watch it anymore. I have never seen any Filipino shows here. They do play Japanese shows sometimes, like Ninja Warrior (have you seen that, it is hysterical), and some others. Also we get some Brazilian and Mexican tv.

Well, we do have what we call TFC (The Filipino Channel) there in the US..I just don't know if it's airing on every state.. xp
MTV here is still playing music, but like half of it are reality shows already like My Own, Punk'd and Pimp my Ride...
But honestly Uma, what do you think of Filipinos in general? If you hear the word Filipino what comes to your mind?
Don't worry, I won't be offended if you have something negative to say... blaugh I just want you to be honest and I want to know what other cultures think of my country...teehee! 4laugh

I've only known one person from there, and he was the most intelligent person I've ever met. Never heard anything all that terrible about the Philippines. Never been there to form my own opinion.

I don't have any particular emotional context for Filipinos. I only know some from the internet and they are all nice people. So, if anything, I am predisposed to like them. In my mind I see the Philippines as hot and humid, kind of like it is here in the summer. I wonder why Filipino is spelled with an "F" and not a P. That is about the extent of it. I would like to visit some day, but there are a lot of places I would like to see, most particularly is India. Filipinos though, seem to me to be rather friendly people on the whole, sort of energetic and outgoing.

It is spelled with P when we Filipinos use it... rofl
In our alphabet, we don't have the letter F...so Filipino is like and english counterpart of Pilipino..it was actually the Americans who spelled that (when we became a part of the American colony)..
@Citizen I agree, I do know a lot of brilliant and talented Filipinos but they can't develop their skills here because of lack of government support...
I'll share some unique (recently discovered) Filipino talents...have fun with these videos..
And Uma, you'll see here how influencial religion is to our country, in a more comical way.. lol
Filipino Inmate's version of Thriller
Inmate's Sister Act
A very elaborate Algorithm March
Talk about Jail House Rock! rofl

Wow Calypso, those were great! I can't believe your inmates get to make movies, but what a good idea. I think our inmates should do song and dance too. However, perhaps our inmates take themselves too seriously to do something like that.

I think it started as an intermission number for the inmate's program..but when the prison admins saw that it occupied most of the inmate's time and they are having fun with it, the admins decided to do it often..There were suggestions that other prisons here do the same as well and have like a competition of some sort... blaugh

Can you imagine if it was used as a tool to re-educate and rehabilitate inmates? I suppose though that there are a lot of inmates and fewer jobs so maybe that would not work. I think that it is no good just to sit around in jail on their behinds and let their minds fester. Doing dance routines promotes a sense of community and spirit which I am sure is unheard of in the prision population. Here at least. I don't mean just doing the routines, but all that has to be coreographed and practiced, and filmed, there are a lot of aspects to it.

Yeah, the practices alone will take their minds off their jail term and might bring a more positive feeling than isolation...

 On the other hand if we make it too nice then maybe they would not want to leave. >.>;;

We just had a really weird weather this month...During the first week of July, the news that our country will be faced with draught if it'll not rain was all over the TV...supposedly June is the start of rainy season and we should expect at least 1 storm in July, but the whole 2 months has been dry making our crops and rice plains dryer and also because of this, the water in the Dams almost at their critical level...this is happening at the centerpart region of the country...
In the northern part, but end of July, Hail started to fall (which is sooo rare in a tropical country)...
And in the southern part of the country, it won't stop raining, that they have flash floods and landslides already...
so being the religious country that we are, the central part of the country prayed hard for rain..and by 2nd week of august, we were hit by 2 storms with heavy rain, filling our Dam again..
and on the southern part, they prayed the rains would stop...
hmmm...how do you think God handle all those prayers at the same time?
but hey, it did work.. so i can't complain.. blaugh
it made me think global warming is really serious if we're having abnormals weather patterns already...and we also had hurricanes here lately! hurricanes!!! in my 28 years I've never heard of hurricanes in my country before even on history books...
global warming will doom us all! twisted
