Bara smiled. "Nice name." She leaned forward and sniffed the ground as well, seeing as Makaio was. Perhaps she could pick someonthing up.
When she heard Bane's comment she giggled. Another crazy. Wonder who the other crazies are.
"I believe in Magic." she said. "I have had times in my life that were pretty magical, if I do say so myself." she said.

Rook stayed a step back from the prints, calling softly to Bara and Makaio, "Careful... Try not to touch the prints, if possible. We'll need everyone to look at them, memorize the shape so we can recognize others later, if there are more." He lowered his head to smell the ground, but could catch no scent over the jumble of unfamiliar Herla scents. Tracking wasn't exactly something he did on a regular basis... damnation! If only he had a reliable way of contacting Trice. She was positively savage -- a frankly alarming trait in a young doe -- but if Rook knew anyone who would recognize unfamiliar prints... He was acutely aware now that other eyes might be upon him, expecting him to come up with some theory now that he'd stepped up to examine the evidence.

He was distracted, however, by Makaio's comment. "Do you think that's likely? It would indicate some intelligence... I suppose it's possible, but it could just as well be some marauding scavenger."

Wolfbane ignored the looks, though he noticed them. He had those looks thrown at him before. It was his way to be rude; he didn't care what others thought of it. He retreated back towards his bush, and watched Makaio and Rook with blazing orange eyes.

Rolan finished his quiet discussion with Charlotte and the Prince and turned his attention to the small cluster of Herla that had gathered around the tracks. He joined the group, weaving through them to take a position right in front of the tracks. During his time as a soldier, Rolan had traveled all over the Hartlands, but he had never seen any pawprints quite like this before. They were smaller than a Herla's, and vaguely catlike, though there was something about them that let him know that no feline had made these. An unknown enemy was the type the Rolan hated fighting most. The prints showed that a large group of the creatures had lingered here for a bit, then headed northeast...straight toward the eastern Icefall Mountains and the treacherous mountain passes of Bear Country.

"Learn the shape of these tracks well, and let your nose remember the lingering scent, if you are able," he peered into the faces of his fellow Herla. Some bored, some excited, some even worried...but all were eager to act. "Make any preparations that you need, because in an hour's time we are heading into the Icefall Mountains and the territory of Bears, and we are not returning until we discover who has invaded our lands and why."

((Whew, sorry for taking so long, guys. Christmas stuff is taking up more time than I thought it would!))

Bane yawned, deciding just to go along with the eager ones for kicks. After all, what could steal their territory if they were the only ones there?

Chanda listened intently, pulling herself to her feet as the herla spoke. She didn't particularly think that whoever had stolen the artifacts would have gone far. It would be a heavy load for such a small creature, judging by the size of the foot prints. "I am ready now." Her tone was paitent, in a pleasant manner. "Prehaps it would be a good idea to send a scouting party of those ready ahead." She looked the herla in the eye, not intimidated in the least by either his stature or obvious standing with the court.

(it's a raccoon, isnt it?)

Lumi raised her head, having fellen into a slight silence, not wanting to bother anyone, and not wanting to really say anything anymore in this group, she might make a fool of herself again and that was something she would not allow. She turned her gaze to Heret and nudged his shoulder slightly with her head. "They want us to look at the tracks." She said even though she knew that Heret had already heard that. "I think it would be best if we waited until most of the others have seen and sniffed them, this way neither one of us in the way..." Maybe he has a great sense of smell, it is said that when a person that looses one sense, their other senses are heightened. "unless ofcourse you're a good tracker?" She added on, a quizzical look on her face, more becuase she was actually curious to see if it was true, rather than her trying to make it as something of a joke.

((That's what I'm guessing xD))

"I'm ready if the others are. What are we waiting for?" Bane snorted. He didn't need to sniff the prints if the others wanted to get their noses dirty.

Makaio took one last long sniff. After having to depend on his nose to recognize other Herla for all his life, his sense of smell was at least average, if not slightly above. Not that he conveyed this to any of the others gathered; boasting (or at least what he assumed was boasting) was not his cup of tea. So instead, he memorized the scent the way most Herla memorize names and faces. And when he was done, he stepped away from the tracks - taking care not to mar them the way Rook had suggested - and moved to the side, back to Bara and Rook.

"Well, that's fine." He nodded approvingly at Rolan's words. "I don't mind a little...what's it called? Trekking?"

Rook felt Bane's gaze on the back of his neck and glanced back over his shoulder briefly, but then paid the quarrelsome buck no further mind. Rolan had stepped forward and, out of respect towards the higher-ranked Herla, Rook turned his full attention towards him.

He listened to the others speak -- he was not quite as eager to be off and running as some of them, knowing the value of good preparation. But at the same time, what was there to gather? Perhaps for those with family or loved ones, the time was needed to say goodbye... But Rook had no such connections. "I am prepared," he said steadily, "whenever we leave." He tilted his head towards Chanda, and added, "If we are sending an advance group, I would accompany you, if you will have me." If Rolan disapproved of the idea, naturally he would defer to the more experienced tactician, but at the same time, he didn't want Chanda to feel as if she had no support for a reasonable idea.

Though her ears had flicked excitedly forward at the mentions of magic, Benholz had refrained from commenting, though she had drifted toward Rook and Makaio. Slinking along the tracks in such a way as to keep within earshot of that particular pair, she lowered her head to the tracks and considered them, them and the faint scents that still lingered. It wasn't something she recognized....and then Rolan spoke and she jerked her head up.

His words made her laugh softly, though it bubbled up in volume until it was audible. "Ah, the highlands...the wildlands..." she laughed again, not wildly, just unpleasantly. "I see nothing but trouble for us there."

Taz hadn't meant to belittle stories, stories were interesting and useful in places. She was glad that the tracking was getting underway, though, and that it was based on what they knew rather than a story. Stepping forward, she joined the scouting party. She wanted to be at the front of the action when it happened, no matter where they went. She may have to fight, but that was only a minor matter compaired to the fun of figuring out the mystery the stockings were involved in.

"That's probably true," Makaio responded before he even turned to the Herla to whom he was speaking. It wasn't until he had spoken, until he watched the scouting party grow, that he turned his head towards Benholz, briefly sniffing at the Herla that had only just chosen to step forward. He didn't speak a word, but his small smile said enough. Trouble was okay with him.

"I'll stay in the back," he called to Rook as he moved backwards, his small steps the only visible side effects to his obvious improved-on limbs. "If everyone volunteers to be in the front, we'll need a scout party for the scout party."

Iris had wandered a fair distance away, in pursuit of the moth that had fluttered away from him. Obvlivious was he of the altercation taking place with the other Herla, "Oh please come back!" He called to the fluttering insect while darting within a small thicket of trees and shrubs. Quickly giving chase, Iris caught up to the fluttering mass stopping short when he came toward him to rest on his head. A smile spread across his features as he flicked his ears at the little insect. "Don't run off you'll get lost." He informed but when he finally acknowledged his surroundings it appeared he himself was the lost one.

"Oh no. I went too far..." Pouting lightly to himself he turned back the way he came going in a straight line. The sound of the bushes and trees around him sent a soft chill up his spine, his long tail flicking irritatedly at bush after bush that it had snagged itself on.

"Mr. Butterfly which way should I go?" He asked only to hear the sound of raised voices. He followed the voices until he came back to the clearing catching only the tail end of the conversation. Ears perked he quickly joined the others frowning when he saw some of their faces. "I think they were fighting Mr. Butterfly." The insect fluttered its wings as if to reply while Iris moved in behind Rook peering curiously at the faces of the other Herla in attendance. What happened? "Are we leaving now?" He asked Rook from behind softly his head hung low unsure of the unfriendly atmosphere around them.

Bane twitched his ear. "I'll go in front, if you want me to. Though it makes little to no sense why we should have a scouting party for the scouting party. What, will we have one for the other scouting party, too?" He snorted before moving ahead of the group, shouldering his way through.
