I'm not too sure about using the story line exactly as it is, but the general idea sounds interesting. We obviously need to create our own characters, but it's a good idea!
PostPosted: Mon Aug 16, 2010 6:02 pm

so i kinda thought of an idea for the plotline, but it may not be that good:

she (host) hated it. she hated being so weak. and she hated being weak for two reasons: she could not protect her sister(co-host), and she could not overpower the nova's. most people told her she was really strong, but it was not enough for her. she needed power. at least she had her cunning and quick thinking, and her sisters smarts and logic. but her sister was way too nice, and this was justified when she came home and saw her sister petting a white dove. "what are you doing! you better be getting ready to grill that, im starved"
"oh no sis, i couldent possibly do that to bradley!" her sister said
"you named it!!! what if it has rabies! i say we eat it..."
"sis, birds cand get raibies. plus i found him half dead. he's doing much better now. can't we possibly keep him?"
"one day! but i don't want to see that glorified chicken when i get back from scavenging tomorrow" she grumply said, stomping away in anger. she left to go hang out in the alley. most people would stay away as far as possible from an alley, with the way life was these days. but she was welcomed in happily, actually getting pats in hte back from the gangs that hung out there. but when she got there, nobody was waiting for her. thats odd, wonder where the guys are she said looking around. she saw a lonesome black cat in the alley, digging out of one of the trash cans. "filthy disgusting animal..." she muttered to herself. "you look no better either" the cat said, looking at her. "whoa...did...did you just talk"
"only if you can hear this"
"wow, this polluted air is starting to get to me..."
"hey slumdog, hear me out! i can give you all of that power that you desire"
"p...power?"
"yeah, thats right, i ain't no ordinairy cat. im Ko, the keeper of sin. you ain't no stranger to sin itself missy, ive seen what you do behind your sisters back. im ready to make a deal with you"
"what'd you want?"
"after i give you the power, i wish for only one thing. i want you to give me that necklace supernova wears once you beat him"
"why do you need that thing?"
"lets just say i have a sibling of mine who can't get by without it. look, im prepared to give you the book of sin itself, i just need that necklace back"
"book of sin? tell me more..." she said, and she and the ally cat whispered to themselves. meanwhile, her sister was expiriencing some weird things too. that dove she rescued was talking! a talking bird! it offered her something called "the book of virtue" in exchange for the necklace supernova himself wore so that she could give it to her sibling. she had to take an offer like that, because it saddened her to see her sister come home every day with only some scraps to eat, and giving all her food to her. she wanted to end this life they had, the life all of the street people had, if she only had the strength her older sister had. she made the deal with the dove. but little did she know about the same time, her own sister struck a deal with the black alley cat...

thats all i got. if you have any questions about how this plays out and such, ill be happy to answer

sorry if its really long and has a bunch of mistakes and such, my computer is c*** in safemode. stupid windows stressed

Having both sins and virtues seems like an awesome idea. It would cause so much drama in the rooms, and drama is good right? 8D

Lust-Chastity
Temperance-Gluttony
Generosity-Greed
Patience/Kindness-Wrath
Kindness/Love-Envy
Humility-Pride

Using a couple sites, these are the sins vs virtues. Kindness seems to oppose two different sins. You could possibly pair love with lust as well.

or mabye this could be the sins that get along, since theyre opposites and "opposites attract". but some of them could not get along because of their traits. example: lust-gluttony wont get along since lust is pretty and gluttony will have to be fat and ugly (or at least fat) and lust will not like that, would she?

Oh!! I had a great story idea for the Seven Sins thing.

What if we have a character(s) that are banished to Hell. We could use the model from Dante's Inferno for the levels of hell.

http://www.4degreez.com/misc/dante-inferno-information.html#0

Currently there 9 levels of Hell + Purgatory, so that's ten. But Purgatory and Limbo are like the entrances to Hell. Then you start with the levels, so that goes down to 8 levels of Hell. And there's Seven Deadly Sins.

So what we could do, is to escape Hell the character(s) must make it through each level of Hell and defeat each Sin that is represented by a demon or personage. Not necessarily in battle, but we could do battle, wit, morals, etc.

Then the last level of Hell, is where our character(s) must face the mirror image of themselves, the worst of themselves, defeat them, and then escape from Hell.

As I said before, while these kinds of plots are totally awesome, I'd really like to keep this as non-religious as possible. Because we've had some problems with offended ballgoers in the past. ♥

It's kind of hard to separate the seven deadly sins from Catholicism when the idea of the seven deadly sins originated from Catholic tradition hundreds of years ago.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 16, 2010 9:47 pm

Well damn it all to hell in a handbasket. >.< Oh well

I think if we stay away from the origins of sins and virtues we'll be okay, because most people will immediately make the connection to the Catholic Church. No need to reinforce it.

So really you'll have to have the embodiment of each sin/virtue in their opposing rooms. But Sin and Virtue does not a plot make.

Even if they get along, there has to be a reason for them to clash at some point to have the conflict and then resolution.

I remembered an old TV show episode that used the Seven Sins approach, this might besomething we could work with? Seven Sins

EDIT: Also a thought, ya'll just did the whole Greek Gods thing for this past ball, that's got religious connotations to it as well, and the idea of Hell has been around a lot longer then that. So a trip through Hell isn't really as far fetched as this past ball was.

@Red: Gluttony doesn't necessarily have to be "fat" or ugly. Gluttony. Gluttony is defined as an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires, while it usually includes food, that doesn't mean its only attached to food.

Well this theme is going to upset people either way if you look at it. Some aren't going to like the sin part and others the virtues. It is pretty much inevitable.

Although it's true that people may get all grumpy about sins, I don't think mild religious things like sins and virtues are going to cause much of an up roar. As Angel says, we should avoid as much religious reference as possible, wish I wish wasn't necessary. Unfortunately, religion is such an controversial topic, though frankly I don't see why *shrugs*

Now, here's some minor things I was thinking about. Like Angel said, we could have opposing sins/virtues together, as things like family, lovers, friends, enemies, etc. Any kind of relationship, varying between pairs. We need a reason the sins and virtues would be together during a ball. Perhaps some kind of family reunion or power struggle. Maybe the Sins wanted to throw a party, but the Virtues were iffy about letting them around humans alone. Maybe they decided they had to come together to inspire world order (humans losing sense of morality/immorality maybe? Kind of becoming indifferent to morals and immorals?)

As for the main host and co-host, my ideas really don't include that, so yeah. Maybe Immorality (main host) could be the parent of the sins, and Morality (co-host) of the virtues? I think that could prove interesting.

I think the sins/virtues is a good idea. I agree though with angel that we should try to leave out as much religious reference as we can. Although I do understand the origins, I believe if we do this in the right way, we can establish a good vs evil setting that most Gaian's will partake in without even thinking about the religious meanings.

There will always be religious fanatics who will show up, however the less the better as we can controll it better.

Anyway, good brainstorming so far everyone: Gaian's have always loved good vs evil, now we just need to think of an explosive plot!

the seven deadly sins will have physical manifestations, right? When i think of the sins, i think of the homunculus' from full metal alchemist, maybe we can have similar looks for the sins? they don't have to look exactly the same...

as for the plot... i've been brainstorming...
we could have a battle type of thing? how about some sort of backstory... like... "The seven deadly sins, afflicting the human world since the dawn of time... maybe we can give it a sort of... worldly, and period feel? Like.. we can make lust, like... moulin rouge? then gluttony is like... a neverending vegas buffet? pride... maybe with a regal, kingly feel to the room... opulent. anger, could be greed could be a treasure vault, or corporate building? sloth, could be cushy and

hum... we could have one protagonist, who is battling with the sins, on the pathway to leading a virtuous life? and so, he gets tempted on the way with these sins, and there could be two hosts, one of a sin, and one of the opposite, like pride + humility, etc. or rather, the ballgoers can choose, to be virtuous or sinful. hm... or get tempted by really awesome things that are of the sin, but then they see that all is not what it seems. that there are horrors to the sin... and maybe theres like, a path at the end... that leads to a virtuous door.

The first day, the sinful rooms, which are led by each physical manifestation, have the very satisfying and super fun ball. The ball goers might notice that there maybe one or two things wrong, but it is easily ignored.

Sorry for the ideas vomit. Thanks for listening... >_<

That sounds kind of like how it is in Piers Plowman where Will (or human will) is searching for Do Well, but finds out that his search is much harder than he though it would be. I forgot to add in my earlier post that there are other ideas that are personified in the story. Some are clearly good, and some are kind of in the middle. For example, Meed "or Reward" is a good and bad character because she rewards good and bad people alike. I really think this book has great potential for adding to this theme.
