Lucian could feel the sting of tears in his eyes. His body too was rebelling against leaving. He didn't want to leave her, not after finally finding a part of him that had always been missing.
It was tough to say, but he spoke. "The sooner we leave, the sooner we can return. And I will be here for you, I will wait. And then our lives will begin--our lives with each other." He nuzzled her again, before taking a tentative step backwards.

Removing herself from his presence was one of the hardest things she had to do, every cell in her being was rebelling, wanting her to return to his warmth, to his alluring scent. Her voice was thick with her unexpressed emotions, "You are right, one week will go by in a blink of an eye and I will see you again. With you always in my heart, them year apart from you wont seem as long and it will be more bearable." Anaon's heart skipped a beat when he said that they will share there life together, it has been something she always wanted, and she had found it, just to lose it again. In many ways it did not seem fair.
"Lucian, I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you," she smiled at him and sent up a silent prayer that she would be reunited with him in a year or sooner if possible.

Lucian took a deep breath. "Soon, I'll see you soon." He faded away, let her go because he cared when he really wanted to beg her to stay.

Anaon watched with blurry tear filled eyes as Lucian drifted into the shadows, leaving her alone in the night. Why did she let him leave? Why didn't she call for him as he disappeared into the darkness?
She knew the answer, family, her sister. She could not leave them and not fulfill the promise she made to them. Anaon shook her head and forced her hooves to move away from her current spot. The mocha colored mare slowly made her way in the opposite direction than the stallion who made her heart race, happy that tonight was not the last night she would ever lay eyes on him again. One week and she would see him again, even if it was for a short amount of time, she would take what she got and be happy with it.
