Candace blinked. "Uh..sure. No problem." A strange request but one she followed nonetheless. She waited by the door, leaning over to try and peek into the kitchen without leaving her spot. What was Aria doing..? She heard the sound of rustling fabric which only made the curiosity worse. What was Aria doing?

Maybe she's looting the corpse. Atropos suggested with amusement, a heavy purr in her voice. Candace frowned. She wouldn't... Right..?

As Aria returned Candace straightened up again, nodding and following her out the door.

Rumbling... "You've got to be kidding..do we smell or something?" Candace groaned, about to turn and attack only to be shoved aside by the large monstrosity. Well then.

She would and she did. Aria said nothing more of it, her attention zeroing in and focusing on the monstrosity that came barreling towards them. "Ugh. Considering how many days we've been down in that underground?" Aria raised her gun and fired a brief spurt of fire, barely scorch-freezing the Insanity creature's side as it past. "It wouldn't surprise me if we are."

"I hope I don't smell. Unlike certain red-headed sun hunters, I shower regularly." Candace pouted, getting a better opening to rush in and strike. She jumped, actually cutting the damn thing in half as it tried to get at her.

Just go away oh my god.

Candace winced, rubbing at her leg. She hadn't felt it much earlier but now it was really beginning to throb. The shield.. Yeah, I know. I still have one bandage left...I'll have to use it for myself. Damn. Candace was already digging through her pack, finding the bandage and sighing.

"Last one." Make it count.

"Bleh. I can't wait to get to my room," Aria said wistfully as the Insanity monster dissipated, "I'm going to pop into my personal shower for a moment just to clean up. I'm sick of the bunker's public ones." That and it was too much trouble to break into and use the Council member's private facilities. Aria did, honestly, stink. Hooray for being uncomfortable with other people!

The next comment brought a curious look from Aria. "Last one what? Shield getting low? We can stop for a bit."

Candace shrugged. "I've got no problem with the showers, not that I'm not excited to have a private shower soon but...it's not enough to stop me from showering." She hadn't even noticed Aria's stink, too concentrated on killing fog monsters and oh my god I'm with my leader and she's praising me and she's telling me all of these awesome things oh my god.

At Aria's concern Candace waved the bandage where she could see it. "Bandage. And..yeah, I'm actually starting to feel the cuts on my leg. They're not bad, but it aches a little. I'll be okay after I use this...I can take a rest while you shower." Candace assured her with a smile. It was fine, really. They stung, the cuts were purely superficial! Really! It was nothing to be terribly concerned over. She gestured to the stairs at the end of the hall. "We're almost there. Which room is yours..?"

While Aria felt like she was in need of a shower, she had yet to ever reach Rep levels of personal hygiene. Thankfully.

When Candace clarified, Aria nodded. "Sounds good, and so long as my room's still clear. I'd hate to get settled in only to have something ambush us." She couldn't exactly sweep her weapon under the bed to check for anything hiding there, either. Setting her own room on fire was one of the last things Aria wanted to do.

"It's easy to find," Aria replied as she lead the way up the stairs, stopping at the top to peek around the corner. "See that open door down there?" Aria used her flamethrower to point at it before she began to head towards it. "That's Allan's room. Mine's right next to it."

There was still fog present within the corridor.

"All clear," Aria murmured as she stepped into the hallway, moving towards her door. "Allan's not that bad of a neighbor. When he's not there," she added as an afterthought. "It tends to get a bit noisy when he's marathoning one of his shows or is hosting karaoke night though."

Candace let Aria take the lead again, falling easily into her shadow. She stopped when Aria stopped, moved when Aria moved. When asked to look down the hall she stepped up to peek around Aria, looking over all of the door numbers. Ah..that open one, yeah. She never bothered to peek into the room before, having had priorities when it came to being on this floor, but she did often wonder why there was no door on it..

"So that's whose room that is.." She mused, stepping into the hall after Aria. "So there's just...no door? I've never seen it clo--ah..so...he just..huh. Talk about trust." Or maybe he was just so strong he didn't have anything to worry about.

...Or maybe he was just ********' stupid.

"Karaoke night? Really?" Candace laughed, following Aria down the hall. She glanced toward room 303 for only a moment. Was it clear? Were the displays safe? She wanted to check. Later. She'd check it later.

As they passed Allan's room she did pause to peek curiously through the door. "...My god. It's like a Japanese arcade in here." Candace chuckled and stepped back away from the room, looking up at the next door. So 305 was Aria. Noted. "Hopefully your room is safe." It was one thing to use a flamethrower in an otherwise unoccupied room, it was another thing entirely to use it in one's own room.

"Allan is a... firm believer in an open-door policy," Aria answered slowly, shrugging. "As over-excited as he can get, he's one of the best people to have at your back. Or have between you and everything else." Aria hesitated openly, before adding quietly, "Don't ever spar him. Very few people who take Allan on survive."

And that was why nobody messed with Allan's things. There was the chance that Allan wouldn't have minded in the first place, however his record concerning fatalities tended to make people second-guess themselves.

Her keys were already out of her pocket and were unlocking the door as Candace peeked into Allan's room. "Hopefully! I'm not too keen on discovering anything nesting in here," she replied, backing up after unlocking the door. Shamelessly, Aria kicked the door open and followed it up by dashing inside, flamethrower raised and searching for any opponent.

Aria crept into her room, the tip of her flamethrower moving from side to side. Aria's private rooms were dominated in tans, bringing a sleepy, comforting warmth to the place. Her entryway was clear. A doorway lead to a small kitchenette, and another lead further into the room where a thick fog could still be seen. "Stay alert," Aria warned.

Candace laughed. "A literal open-door policy." But she'd believe he was one of the best. She'd seen it. He had a warm heart and he was incredibly strong; the man was just <********' crazy. At the warning she chuckled, shaking her head. "Don't worry, I have no intention of ever sparring him. I've seen him in action. I think he could kill me with his pinky."

As Aria kicked the door open Candace jumped, waiting for Aria to lead the way inside before following her in. She hovered by the door, looking all around for any signs of hostility. Nothing yet. There was fog in here but she didn't see anything moving. Candace quietly closed the door; the room may have been clear but Candace didn't want to risk anything coming inside from out in the hall. "I will." She replied to Aria's warning, keeping Atropos summoned for now. Candace looked around again, noting the actual decor of the room now instead of just 'are there creatures in here'. It was warm. She liked that.

Relaxing, Candace smiled. "It's always fun seeing the different rooms around here. It's like everyone makes them an extension of their personality or something." Clarice and her bathroom, H and his display cases, plush carpeting and leather furniture, Allan and his...Japanese utopia. Now Aria's warm colors and comforting space. It was nice. It suited her. "I'll stay out here while you clean up, okay?"

Aria shuddered at Cabdace's joke. It was closer to the truth than the trainee probably realized. Truthfully, to Aria Allan was like a giant puppy. Harmless, but liable to accidentally bite and it would bite hard. Allan's assistant Simon was just as dangerous, byt without the harmless factor. The less she saw of either, the better she felt. Avoidance of other division leaders was a tried and true policy Aria stuck by.

The comment about her room earned a quick grin from Aria. "My cozy den. The color'sl left over from the previous leader. I kept meaning to change it, but it's grown on me."

Tne leader focused her attention on the room beyond, weapon raised and ready to strike. All clear. Bed? Clear. Closet? Same. Bathroom? Empty. Good.

She didn't let go of her weapon as she grabbed some clean clothes. "Food's in the kitchen, help yourself to whatever you like." Cupboards would contain a selection of dry goods, cans, and foods preserved in labled glass jars. There was even a cabinet that contained nothing but boxes of jerky.

Somewhere overhead, water began to flow as Aria took a shower.

As warm as Aria's quarters were, a majority of the furniture was dark in color. The couch Candace could see was plush and outfitted with a cover. A peek beneath it would show that its true color was a dark maroon. There wasn't much in terms of decor. A cream bookcase nearby was the most visually interesting thing present. The bookcase contained many books that covered a wide variety of topics. One shelf, however, was dedicated to a few photographs. Here is a younger-looking Aria, caught off-guard as someone took her picture. Here she was again with a crowd of hunters, each of them serious. An older Aria was balancing carefully atop the head of a dead-looking dragon with several other hunters. The next photograph held a serious-eyed stranger who was frowning disapprovingly at the camera. There were even a few pictures of Lance before his accident, along with even more unknown hunters. There wasn't much else on the shelf aside from a vase containing a couple dusty silk flowers.

"The previous leader?" Candace was curious about that, though it was mild. As far as Candace was concerned the only leader of the Mists that mattered was the current one. Her leader. Though the previous one had nice taste in colors. "They're nice though. Not my style, but they're really warm and comforting."

The first thing she checked out was the bookcase, more specifically the shelf with the photos. She blinked, looking over every picture. This was a part of Aria she'd never seen; embarrassed, with a group of hunters...she had never seen, and from the looks of them all Mist. She'd never seen any of these Mists before. Had this been the 'inner' group that Aria had told her about? She looked over every face in the picture...the only one she recognized was Aria. Candace frowned, setting the picture back on the shelf. She picked up the next picture, tilting her head to one side like a curious bird. Huh. Someone didn't like their picture taken~. That picture was set down and the last one was picked up. She laughed aloud. Lance! He was unmistakable! Haha!

..He had no chair in this. She sobered up quickly, her smile softening as she just admired it. He wouldn't tell her how long he'd been like that, which she could understand, but she was still curious. It was even more curious that Aria had multiple pictures of Lance.

The pictures were neatly set down where she'd found them, the dusty silk flowers politely wiped clean with her fingers and the end of her sleeve. Even if Aria didn't notice, Candace couldn't just leave them that way.

Finally when Aria let her know the room was clear by informing her she could help herself to the food, Candace allowed Atropos to revert to her desummone d form with a small sigh. She was happy. A moment of peace and quiet. She ventured into the kitchen, humming thoughtfully as she peeked at everything. Wow, Aria had a lot of easy-to-make food.

Best leader ever.

This was the kind of cooking Candace could to. Things that were pre-packaged and didn't take much preparation. Like hamburger helper fettuccini alfredo. Ohhh! She could make some for Aria, too! She'd like that, right? She grinned, setting about making it for herself and her leader. She hoped she liked not having to do anything except enjoy a meal after her shower. Aria looked like she could use some relaxation time.
PostPosted: Mon May 28, 2012 9:10 pm

"Mm-hm. I was a trainee too at one point," Aria said, shrugging. "It's strange. She was a hard woman, but I think she spent even less time than I do here." When she moved into her leader's old quarters, there wasn't much to throw out or donate into the mutual "take whatever you want" room on Deus.

Aria couldn't help but bite her lip as she stared at herself in front of her mirror. Thinking about her previous leader lead to several uncomfortable thoughts. Would things have been different if she stayed with them? If she tried to complete the mission. Symphony was quick to point out that she would have been killed. Dead on arrival.

What would have happened to the trainees? The Mist division would have closed. It wasn't a specialty division, or rather its specialty was in fitting all of the other divisions. It was a place for those that didn't fit into other divisions could go, either to stay or to find where they belonged. But without it... What would happen? Aria figured that the trainees would be best matched to their skills and stay there.

But what if the current Mists?

Before would have probably stayed in Life. Candace? Sun or Death. Cassandra? Moon, or Death. The rest... Aria tried to think as she cleaned herself, her mind scrambling for answers. She couldn't come up with anything. Despite being a leader for the Mists, Aria realized quite painfully that she didn't know her own trainees that well.

And yet there was a small voice that pointed out that she shouldn't. Trainees were replaceable. Short-lived. She shouldn't get attached to them, as at some point they'll ******** up. Or they'll transfer out. It wouldn't do her any good to get close to them and know them personally, only to have them move onto another division. That in and of itself would feel like a betrayal. Wouldn't it?

Or shouldn't she feel happy for someone who finds their way? Who finds a place they belong? Aria scrubbed her hair vigorously as if she could find the answer beneath the oil and grime that had accumulated within her brown locks. Aria felt like she should be happy, that she should be pleased, and yet... And yet she wanted to keep them. To get to know them better.

Trainees are expendable. There are always and will always be sleepers within the pods. It is easy enough to wake them and see if a weapon has responded to them. If not, there are always runic weapons for them to use. Her mentor's voice pointed out, her words thinly hiding a threat. If Aria failed, it would be too easy to send her to sleep in one of those pods and to awaken another to take her place. It was a motivation to meet and surpass her leader's expectations, no matter how painful they became.

Aria mentally slammed the door down before those memories rose to the surface. Now and never was there a time to think back to those days. They were long past. Symphony agreed.

Refreshed and revitalized, Aria didn't bother with a hairdryer as she threw on some clean clothes. A fresh, unadorned Mist coat was retrieved from her closet before Aria finally reappeared, pausing long enough to sniff appreciatively at the smells coming from the kitchen. "Ahh! That smells good," she complimented as she dumped her clothes into her hamper. She'll deal with throwing them into a washing machine later. "How much longer will it take?"

Aria helped herself to grabbing the dishes from the cupboard and setting the small, modest table that was present in her kitchenette. Unlike the rest of her room, the plates Aria had were white with squiggly black lines on them. The silverware were simple utensils that looked exactly like the same ones in the cafeteria. Then again, they probably came from the cafeteria in the first place.

By the time Aria returned from her shower she would find a cheerful Candace singing softly under her breath as she read the instructions on the back of the box. Despite the Insanity, she looked okay. The whispers were faint, not enough to bother her. Having something to distract her from herself was good; cooking a meal, bonding with her leader, killing not one but...eight creatures so far. This was a good day. Things were going well for her. Candace did her best to ignore the little voice of insecurity telling her to just wait, that no doubt something would happen to ruin this happiness she'd managed to attain.

Her singing stopped abruptly the moment she heard Aria's voice, cheeks flushed and eyes wide. "Oh! Uh..welcome back! Um, not much longer. A couple minutes?" She paused, pursing her lips and looking unsure. "...I don't cook much." Or at all. But..instructions were something she could do. Candace was a quick learner.

She stayed with the food until it was finished glancing back at where Aria had set the dishes for them. Oh, good! She'd been about to ask where those were! Candace hummed instead of sang now, a proud smile on her face as she moved to take the plates and serve the meal onto each of them. The stove was turned off, the pan placed into the sink for her to wash after eating, and the plates set down for Aria and herself. "Umm, oh! What do you have to drink?" This was..really nice. An actual meal, one that wouldn't end awkwardly, and privacy.

Candace was visibly relaxing, settling down in a chair at the table with a happy little sigh. "Thank you for this, Aria." She gave her leader a grateful smile. "It's been..ages since I could just...sit down and have a meal with someone and not end up feeling like I did something I shouldn't have. I'm glad it's you~." All attempts at doing this since the mission had started had ended..poorly. She had a feeling it was the choice of company.

Damnit.

She looked to her leader again, humming quietly until she realized what she was wearing. That coat...it wasn't her usual decorated one. Candace blinked. "What happened to your coat? Your other one is nicer..."
PostPosted: Thu May 31, 2012 10:53 pm

Aria froze in her movements after Candace admitted that she didn't cook much. That was never a good sign in Aria's opinion. The lack of smoke allowed her to relax and continue setting the places. Candace was okay. Even though she didn't cook much it didn't mean she was going to burn it.

Maybe.

Symphony nudged,

Right. Right.

"Drink? Mostly water," Aria volunteered, turning and opening the refrigerator. While she did have alcohol, she made no move to offer it. It was far too early in the day for such activity. That and quite possibly Aria was stingy. Or she only drank when she felt like it or seemed to need a drink. Bottom line? Aria wasn't sharing.

Either way, two bottles of water made their way to the table and were placed next to the modern plates. "It's been a rough time for everyone, I think," Aria answered simply, dismissing off the compliment with a shrug. "It's not often that I have company over. Aside from Lance and a few other hunters, I usually eat alone." Excluding the times Allan barges in when he wants ramen noodles. After having him mess up some of her pots, Aria learned how to make said ramen for him in order to keep her pots and make sure he didn't start a fire.

Aria had turned away to embark on another small errand when Candace's observation made her freeze. She didn't answer immediately. Even when she sat down again and passed Candace a napkin she was still quiet. Finally Aria sighed, giving up an internal struggle with herself. "This is one of my spare coats. I also have a spare Moon and Death coat as well."

"Water is fine!" Candace smiled, completely unaware of Aria's refusal to share anything alcoholic. That was fine, she'd rather not go through the building again under the influence. She'd seen what Drinking and Fighting did and she did not approve even a little bit. She uncapped her water, offering Aria a cheerful thanks before sipping at the water.

As Aria pointed out that Lance was usually her only visitor Candace smirked, arching an eyebrow. She didn't say anything. She simply sat patiently and waited for Aria to join her before she'd start eating. Something she had been taught at a young age, you don't start dinner until everyone is present and accounted for. She'd wait for Aria to sit before she started to eat.

Oh dear...should she not have asked about the coat? She was just curious was all. Though the mention of other division coats did get a surprised look from Candace. Moon and Death? But hadn't Aria always been Mist? "Why? I've..borrowed Sun and Life coats for brief periods, but why would you want to keep another division's coat?" She paused. Oh wait, did that come off as disrespectful? s**t. She was just surprised. "Er...I mean...like, why..would you want a spare coat that's not Mist?" She paused again, smirking a little. "Surprised there's no Sun on that list, really."
