Stop being depressed, darn it! Depression's no fun! Work on the Partita... I lost my copy, but it was fun to work on all the little technical bits and try and make them work. Detail work can take your mind off of the empty pit in your stomache that depression seems to create. At least... it works for me.

Working doesn't keep my mind off things. It just depresses me more in the sense that I currently have nothing to strive for (too much apathy).

Ah, I see. Well... are there any orchestras in your community? The community college comes to my school sometimes and asks us to enroll in their orchestra for credit and stuff.

I'm already in a Youth Orchestra and it sucks.
I hate Orchestra music, to put it bluntly. confused

rofl Yeh, people try to tell me otherwise, but I much prefer a solo piece because then it's, well, fun . . . sweatdrop
As fun as is possible, anyway. stressed

I love solo pieces; the difficulty comes when there is no solo work to be had, and you have to be in orchestra to keep your place in your school/job/whatever. xd

I do have to say that we are probably getting slightly off topic, however.

I'm working on "Meditation" from the Opera Thais. Also, I'm working on "The Flight of the Bumblebee", but it just sounds like sh** right now. It's like, "OMG!! Attack of the accidentals!" eek xd

I like Meditation, but I've never taken the time to really polish it up. I can toss it off to impress someone randomly, but someone who actually knows the piece would probably yell at me. 3nodding

lol, yeah, Meditation is cool and pretty, but a little hard. The position changes are complicated. I even improvise sometimes on it.

Just wondering, since you did Meditation, have you ever done Adoration by Felix Borowski? It's much like Meditation: pretty, but complicated. I did it for state competition last year. I worked hard and practiced it all year, and I got it pretty good. Then I lost my cool on stage and blew it all. I wish they would let you perform more than once...

No, I'm afraid not; I stole Meditation from a friend. Hence the reason I haven't managed to make it all nice yet. I've mostly done Mozart, some Bach Partitas, and the like.

I know ALL about the blowing it on stage. Done that like five times this year, then ended up losing what I wanted through politics once I finally stopped blowing it. lol

I'm working on memorizing the King George set.. [cough] It's a traditional Cape Breton set, consisting of Miss Lyall, King George IV, and the King's Reel.

Something tells me my fiddling doesn't fit into this community very well. Oh well.

Fiddling is great! My education hasn't really been focused on it in the short time I've been learning, but I love the sound of the fiddle. My teacher, a classical violinist, sort of laughed a year or two ago when I showed him a book of simple fiddle tunes that I had... until he started to play them and I told him the metronome marking. twisted

Oh, yeah, the music we're working on part. I'm doing the Bruch violin concerto in G minor, and the Prelude to the Bach Partita III... which has been done a million times and everyone knows it... but there's one bowing that is just so frustrating; I wish I had a fiddler's education, because then I might be able to pull it off! xd

Ooh! I love fiddling! In fact, that's really how I learned! 3nodding I'm an Irish fiddler! my teacher hates fiddle, though...>.<

I don't really "work on" fiddle songs, I hear one played and I copy it. In fact, I would love to see written fiddle music! It would probably make sense out of a few things...lol

Yay! good news. Orchestra has re-started, huzzah! This means more music, though. 2006 selections: "Peer Gynt" (all 3 suites), "The Barber of Seville Overture," "Funeral March of a Marionette," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," to name a few.

:] I started out with Classical music when I was 9, but even then, fiddle was what I was really shooting for. The problem is, celtic fiddle teachers aren't particularly easy to come by where I live. Classical violin was about as close as I was going to get, until I started picking up tunes from books. So, I started learning with sheet music. It slows me down so much when it comes to fiddling. I can learn by ear, but I can sight-read tunes so much easier. Thus, the sheet music becomes a crutch. I know that I learn the tunes better when I learn them by ear, because the tunes I know the best, I learned by ear. But that rarely stops me from using my crutch, all the same.

I ought to try learning from CD's. The only songs I've learned by ear were in person, from teachers and fellow students at the Gaelic College in Cape Breton. I love that place.

Ooh, are you playing the Eb major version of the Barber of Seville Overture? I want to so badly, but the Community College orchestra that I work with wouldn't be able to pull it off.

Yes! 4laugh hmm... it's really not that difficult...maybe we got an easy version? I don't know. I'm in a college community orchestra, in semi-rural WV for goodness' sakes. If we can do it, either we've got an easy version, or you could do it, I'm sure.
