For such a small creature it took Gil a lot of effort and fair bit of strength to pull the fawn out. "Good work, Ez, that's it...just support his head..." He grasped the front legs firmly and pulled. "They can support their heads almost at once, not like human babies, but he not with me yanking at him like this." Eventually the baby deer popped out. Gil quickly pulled away the membrane and afterbirth, checked on the mother then moved a short distance away, patting Ezra on the shoulder and gesturing for him to move away with him. He watched to make sure the doe accepted the fawn, which was already attempting to struggle to its feet. The mother sat up and began to lick her offspring to clean him up and put her scent on him. "All's well" Gil smiled. "I best get washed up! So, how was that for your first birthing experience?"

Ezra made sure to carefully support the fawn's head, not wanting ti hurt it or let it hurt itself. Human instinct? It was awhile before the fawn was out, and he followed Engill when he was "told". He stood next to Engill and watched as the doe accepted the fawn. That made him happy. He looked at Engill and then his own hands and arms. "I should, too....That grass made my arms itch." And, he had some...birth fluid on his hands. "It was...exciting. I'm glad the fawn's okay." He looked down and then glanced up at Engill again. "...Ez?"

"You can wash in the cabin. I'll heat some water on the fire" Gil told him with a soft chuckle at the state of them. "It was exciting. I've delivered so many animals over the years but still each one moves me. I hate it when I lose one. But this one is strong and well and mother is doting on her already. Let's head back." He wiped his hands on the grass a little before heading away from the clearing to give the new mother and child some privacy. "Ez? Oh, yeah. Sorry. Ezra. I didn't offend you, did I?" He led him briskly back along the narrow trackway to the cabin.

Ezra looked at Engill. "Thanks." He smiled softly as he listened, but then frowned. So, births could be complicated enough to lose the newborn with animals, too. That was sad. He followed Engill, moving quickly to keep up with his long strides. "Huh? Oh, uh....No. I wasn't offended. I just....I never had a nickname before. Didn't think anything could be done with ny name to make one. I....I don't mind if you call me Ez." As long as it was just Engill. "Guess I have to start calling you Gil then, huh?"

Engill realised that Ezra was having to hurry to keep up with him so he slowed down a little, at over six foot he had long strides and walked quickly. He was smiling to himself, in a happy mood now the fawn had been safely delivered and all was well. He'd been fretting over this for days so was relaxed now. Dirty, smelly, hungry but relaxed. He turned and smiled down at Ezra. "I will call you Ez then and yes, you will call me Gil. It seems we are making an intersocial bonding. I've not done that in many years." How many years had it been since he'd made a friend? A wasn't sure. Certainly a very long time. Arriving back at the cabin, the first thing he did was light the fire and put water on to heat. He washed up in cold water first, in a water barrel behind the cabin, whilst he waiting for the water to heat. Then he poured some elderflower wine and cut some bread and cheese. "Will your pack leader come looking for you again?" he asked Ezra.

Gil it was then. He waited for Gil to wash up in the water barrel, and decided to just use the water from his canteen to rinse off his hands. He was a bit clumsy, but managed. He at least got the birth off his hands. Going back inside, he waited for Gil to come back inside and watched as he poured wine and cut some bread and cheese. "Maybe....Will you lie and say you haven't seen me? Or, can angels not lie?" He looked around the cabin, having not actually did so before. It was a gorgeous place. "...Um. Is it okay if I ask some bread and cheese, too?"

"Of course. You may help yourself to whatever you like" Gil told Ezra, cutting some more bread and cheese. "There's plenty." He took a wooden plate and handed it to him. He took one for himself and put a couple of slices of bread and hunk of cheese on it. He sat down with his plate and his wine and stretched out his legs. He threw back his head and laughed loudly when Ezra asked if angels could lie. "I'm a fallen angel, remember, the dark one banished to earth. Yes, I can lie. I would do anything to protect you. I will tell your leader I have not seen you." He had never actually told a lie before but he knew he could, and he would if it helped the young human. It felt weird contemplating speaking an untruth but it he was learning that honesty was not always right and good in all circumstances. He was well aware that life had more grey areas than other angels knew.

Ezra smiled a bit. He stood after taking the plate and grabbed just a couple slices of bread and cheese. He wasn't that hungry. After getting his smal assemble of food, he sat back down and jumped when Gil laughed. He didn't think the guy could laugh. "Thanks. I....I still don't know why you feel so compelled to protect me, but I appreciate it." He bite into the bread and smiled a bit. It was good. Best bread he ever had. "...Exiled for seeing the truth. Just goes to show how ******** up everyone's 'god' is."

Gil sighed and gave a sad smile. "It wasn't the only reason. They'd been waiting for an excuse to get rid of me and my refusal to carry out my duties provided them with that" he told Ezra. He closed his eyes for a few moments, fell silent as his mind drifted, his mood nostalgic and evocative as he involuntarily summoned up images and memories. Some were beautiful memories but some were incredibly painful. He shook his head, pushed away dark thoughts, looked at Ezra with a sad soft smile. "I fell in love. I couldn't be forgiven for that."

The teen blinked. They wanted to get rid of him? Ezra was happier he was an atheist now. He didn't want to worship a god that waited to get rid of others. He noticed Gil get lost in his thougts before speaking. "They...wanted you gone becauss you...fell in love...?"

EngillGil nodded. "Well, to be fair, it wasn't that I fell in love so much as who I fell in love with" he elaborated. "His name was Tatsuo. He was the most beautiful being I have ever laid eyes on..." He sighed and shook his head. He pushed away his plate leaving his bread and cheese half eaten. "So, tell me why you are hiding out here with me instead of staying with your pack."

So....It was because he fell in love with another male? Yet another reason he thought "god" was ********. He watched Gil push his plate away and sighed. Ezra shouldn't have asked. "I don't like them. The only reason the other students want to ever hang out with me is either because I'm wealthy or because I'm the best athlete in the class. Or, in some cases, the girls just want to get into my pants. They're not actually interested in getting to know me. I'd rather be alone than be used." He finished off his bread and cheese before setting the plate down. "...You're pretty cool, though. You haven't tried anything selfish, and I never actually believed in angels....Still don't, I guess. You haven't done anything really spectacular. I've just been taking your word on things." He didn't really care, though. Angel or not, Gil wasn't trying to use him or anything. Ezra liked that about him.

Gil listened and nodded. As far as he was concerned this young human had just aptly described what was wrong with the whole of human society in a sample microism. People were selfish and greedy and out for themselves and what they could gain without any thought or care for anyone or anything else and no regard to the trail of damage they caused in doing so. The boy's decaration that he did not believe in angels surprised him and lightened the mood. He gave a soft chuckle. "Come outside" he told him, getting up and leaving the cabin. "Come here. I'm going to ask you to trust me. I want you to put your arms around my neck, wrap your legs around my hips and hang on tight. I promise I won't let you fall."

Ezra stood and followed the other outside. When he heard his instructions, the teen tensed. He couldn't do that. It was way too intimate, even though there was no intention there. "I....Do I have to hold you like that? It's....Weird."

Gil looked at him for a moment, his head tilted to one side and a puzzled frown. "Weird?" he repeated. Then his eyes widened and he shook his head. "Oh! No, no I wasn't trying to....I didn't think about how intimate that might be. How about a piggy back instead then? That would work" Ezra knew he had been trying anything on, right? He hadn't misconstrued his intentions? No, if he'd thought that he wouldn't still be here.
