Shunsui coughed, the air rushing from his lungs as he dropped his katana. Once more she surprised him, but two could play at that game. Before she could move to her fallen weapon, he fell forward and wrapped his arms around her. His breath now somewhat caught, he gathered her close and looked down at her.
"I gotcha," he said softly, squeezing her slightly.

She struggled at first, thinking the battle was still going on. Her eyes were set on the fallen blade. When she saw his face she smiled lightly up at him. "Told you not to hold back." she said as she leaned up and licked his cheek.

"I learned my lesson quick," Shunsui replied and leaned down, giving her a quick kiss on the lips.
"Remember everything I said before about the zanpakuto? You know I may be wrong about that after all," he whispered, smiling down at her.

She kissed him back and smiled. "Well that's good to know." she said and winked. "I wonder how much practice it will take before I can even get a sword of my own." She looked up to him with a quizical look, "How do you get a sword anyways?" She blinked.

"Well... Your zanpakuto comes to you, really," Shunsui attempted to explain. Truthfully, he didn't really know how or why it happened, just that it did and it was different for everyone.
"I think when a shinigami's powers are strong enough to attract a zanpakuto's attention, it choses to become a weapon to aid them. That's why we tend to share personality traits with our zanpakuto, because they choose us. And they're not all that keen on being called just swords. A sword is a very bland term, no? They come in all different types, like my scimitars," he continued, sitting on the soft grass and pulling her down with him. He picked up the katana part of his pair and held it on display, the flat of the blade resting on an upturned paw while the other gripped the hilt.
"They each have their own names, like every living creature. It's when we learn their name that we can call out their initial realease, shikai, and eventually the final release, the bankai. Now, that takes forever to be able to do and a hell of a lot of spiritual energy. It's basically calling out the zanpakuto's spirit from the weapon," he finished, sheathing the katana and smiling at her.
"Now, would you mind getting the poor neglected half of my zanpakuto?"

Artemis watched him as he spoke, and looked down to the blades when she was pulled down with him. She had heard Ukitake speak about the bankai stage, and smiled when she set her new goal. She had learned the way of the sword, now she needed to perfect it, and increase her enegry so she would be able to gain a Zanpakuto of her own, and reach the Bankai stage. After all, he never said it wasen't impossible.
She smiled and crawled over to the other half of his zanpakuto and took the hilt in her dark paws. She then stood up and walked back over to him. "It's not neglected."

"She feels that way when she's lying on the ground," Shunsui replied with a smile, taking the smaller zanpakuto and sheathing it alongside her twin.
"I'm the only one that has two seperate zanpakutos... in a way," he explained, remembering when he first saw Katen Kyōkotsu in their spiritual forms, when they told him their names.
"They're twin spirits that wouldn't be seperated from one another. Yin and yang, almost. I know Juu has two when released, but that's still just one spirit," he told her.

She nodded her head in realization. "Ooooh.." She looked down at his belt to see the swords scabbards one ontop of the other. "I guess they realy love eachother." She said as she looked back up to them. "Sisters who refuse to be seperated."

Shunsui chuckled and patted the dual hilts.
"Twins, yes. Sisters, no. Katen Kyōkotsu are litterally yin and yang, black and white, male and female. Opposite sides of one coin, as they like to say," he corrected and looked up from the zanpakuto.
"They have such odd personalities, I worry about what you may end up with."

"Whoops." She brought her paws up to cover her mouth. She then looked at hi strangly with a smile. "Ya? What's that suppost to mean?" She asked as she punched him lightly in the arm.

Shunsui held up both paws defensivly.
"I worry for you! Who knows what might come your way and think that you might be a good weilder," he tried to dig himself out of the hole to no avail.

She frowned at him, "You don't think I can take care of my self and haldel a Zanpakuto?" She asked placing her paws o her hips, the fur on her tail becoming ruffled.

Shunsui looked like a fish-out-of-water, the way his mouth opened and closed a couple of times with his loss of words.
"I didn't mean..." he tried, but failed and sighed. He looked up to the sky for a moment, searching for help, then looked back to her face.
"Artemis," he said and put a paw lovingly on her cheek, "You're going to do a lot of things I know you're capable of doing where you could get hurt. I'll let you do them, but I won't be able to help worrying just a little. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to you."

She glared at him, waiting for a reply, knowing that whatever he would say she would still be mad at him. But when his soft words excaped his lips, her anger melted. her features softened, and a soft smile came acorss her maw. She kneeled and wrapped her arms around his neck, burring her face into his shoulder. "What am I going to do with you, you big baby.." She whispered.

Shunsui smiled as he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.
"I have no idea," he replied with a soft chuckle. One paw reached up to rub the back of her head lightly. He smirked a little and tweaked her ear.
"But don't ever call me a baby again. I doubt a baby could fight like I do," he added, smiling with the light request.
