Jess simply winked at Ray, to Desiree's apparent disgust. "Good evening." She smoothed out her tight robes, making sure to run her hands as slowly down her waist and hips as humanly possible. "See you inside." She looked pointedly at Ray, and away from Desiree as she hooked arms with Peter and led him inside.
Desiree's eyes were narrowed and she had drawn her wand, clutching it tightly as though she wanted nothing more than to curse Jess very Unforgiveably. Then she said something very unlike her. "Merlin, I wish I had her looks."

Ray turned around, startled. Admittedly, it would not hurt anyone to look like...that. But Desiree wasn't have bad looking either. And there was a sparkling innocence within Desiree that was lacking completely in Jess's shrewd, seductive eyes. "Which one? The 'I'll get you in bed even if I have to tie you up,' or the 'I'm the sluttiest, richest, most vile snake in all of England?'" he asked Desiree. Unfortunately, a fifth year and his girlfriend chose to walk by at that moment, and gave Ray very strange looks.
Peter had noticed Jess's...ahem...directness towards Ray, and it had not pleased him in the least. "Jess. I didn't know you and Ray were...friends." The remark might have been a little timid, but Peter was one of the boldest people in Hogwarts, and a braver person than he would have paled at the prospect of accusing Jess of anything.

Desiree sighed quietly to herself, before shrugging with an almost bored looking expression on her face. "I don't know. Maybe the second one, it could come in handy if I were to ever caught ina situation where I needed to speak Parseltongue." She gave him one of her joking smiles and entered the Great Hall. "Well it sure is beautiful."
Jess gave him an almost hurt look. "What? Can't I be friendly towards the people you like? I thought you would appreciate me making an effort to be more congenial." She pouted at him, fluttering her eyelashes a little as she leaned in to kiss him up the neck. "You know you're the only one for me."

"So are you," pointed out Ray, still feeling like a pig for having so much as looked at Jess.
Peter began to apologize immediately. "Yes, right, sorry. Thank you." He kissed her lightly on the top of the head. "I know."

Desiree blushed a little, a small smile creeping on to her face as she took Ray's hand. "Maybe...do you think we could dance a bit before our eat and run?"
Jess grinned, pulling him by the collar into a proper kiss. "Thank you. Now let's go dance!" She dragged him onto the dance floor and immediately got into the music, swaying her hips back and forth as she moved around like a belly dancer.

Ray hesitated only for a split second. He wasn't much of a dancer. Usually, he and Desiree sat around and talked while others danced. "Let's go." He began to lead Desiree onto the dance floor, but a few tall students in black robes were blocking the way. "Excuse--" his words ceased when he recognized one of the snarling faces. It wasn't from any class, or the hallways. It was from a moving black and white picture, under the flashing words, "WANTED FOR MURDER." Instictively, Ray jerked on Desiree's hand. "Run!" he yelled.

Before Desiree could even comprehend what was going on, she was jerked off of the dance floor and straight out into the entry way. She finally stopped him and let go of his hand, since hers was now hurting something awful. "What was that about?"

Ray shook his head. "There's a Death Eater here. I saw him. We have to--we have to go see Professor McGonagall. She'll know what to do; she's been through this before."
Peter was not dancing. Rather, he was watching Jess dance and drooling. As she snaked across the dance floor, Peter found himself pushing people aside to keep her in view. "Excuse m--" he began, before having a wand shoved beneath his face.
"Watch where you're going," grunted a large, hairy, 30-something Crabbe.
"Stupid! You just gave it away," shouted Goyle.
"No! You just did."
"Boys, boys," purred Pansy Parkinson, coming between them. "You both did. Now. It's show time."

Desiree's eyes went wide. "Are you sure?" She looked around frantically, as if expecting to see one right in front of her. "I don't know, maybe it's just a pr-" She nearly got pushed to the floor as students flooded out into the hallway, shoving the pair aside.
Jess's dancing was interrupted by the flood of students pushing past her. "Well how rude! I was right in the middle of my dance. And why in the bloody hell did the music stop?" She eyed the band, or rather the abandoned instruments, not really aware of what was happening.

"It's no prank," confirmed Ray, taking the part of Desiree that just happened to be closest--her elbow--and starting down the hall that eventually led to Professor McGonagall's office.
Peter remained frozen, the wand still under his nose. And a very pungent odor it gave off, too. Suddenly, his eye caught sight of Jess, who was no longer dancing, but not moving along with the others, either. His heart began to pound. He hadn't expected this.
"We'll be quick. You two just make sure that I am unharmed," instructed Pansy, pulling her wand out of her robes. "Morsmodre!" she cried, pointing her wand at the ceiling like a rocket. With a high-pitched scream and a thundering crash, the Dark Mark appeared, hovering over the students. There was a thin band of moving snakes circling the bottom of the Dark Mark, as well. Pansy pressed a matching band of tattooed snakes on her wrist, and let go quickly, gasping. "He is anxious. Kill the witnesses, quickly."

Desiree followed him, dashing up the stairs to the Headmistress's office. "What if she isn't there?"
Jess's focus switched to the ceiling, her eyes focused on the glittering emerald skull and the snake entwined in it. Subconsciously, the corners of her mouth twitched, as though she was itching to grin, but she caught herself at the last minute and stopped herself from smiling.

Goyle grinned stupidly. This was one of the only spells he was good at. "Avada Kedevra," he said quickly, without warning, turning and hitting a girl squarely in the stomach. There was no resistance. She simply widened her eyes and fell to the floor.
Peter nearly threw up.
"Avada K--" began Goyle, but Peter launched himself on top of him. "Expelliarmus!" he bellowed. "EXPELLIARMUS!" Pansy and Crabbe's wands clattered to the floor. "Jess! Run! Get out of here--"
Pansy Parkinson, now absolutely livid, picked up her wand and cursed Peter wordlessly. Peter let out a high shriek and collapsed, yelling and clutching his wand hand.

Jess snapped herself from her trance, hearing Peter call to her. WIthout another thought, she bolted from the room, not even noticing that Peter was now obviously in excruciating agony.

Professor McGonagall burst out of a room that was not her office, and she looked at Ray and Desiree brusquely. "To your respective Common Rooms, right away. The Heads of Houses will be doing a count. Tell the other students to do the same." She brushed past them and walked faster than Ray thought possible to the Great Hall, brandishing her wand.
Pansy had turned on Peter by this time, but was fired backwards into a wall by Professor McGonagall. She let out an anguished cry and Apparated. Crabbe and Goyle, after blinking several times, Apparated as well.
Chest heaving, Professor McGonagall looked from Peter to the girl. She knocked Peter out with a flick of her wand, and solemnly walked to the corpse.

Jess was, of course, the perfect Slytherin and thus a prefect. She wrangled the begrudging Slytherins back down into the dungeons, silently agreeing that she, as well as they, wanted to see some Gryffindor murder.
Desiree was pretty frightened at this point. Since the Ravenclaw common room was on the way to Hufflepuff's, she stayed close to Ray until she got to the entrance, her eyes darting around nervously. As she reached the entryway, she stopped and threw her arms around Ray's neck, holding him tight. "Be safe..."
