Ray slowly stood up, wordless from shock and the dizzying realization that Jennifer really was gone. He realized that Desiree was in shock too; and he pulled her up by the hand in the same way that he would have done a month or so earlier, when they were just friends, and absolutely nothing more. He jerked his head towards the entrance, where students were filing out. He didn't want to talk right now.

Desiree's eyes flickered up to Ray in an almost confused sort of way. She didn't feel so well at the moment. Silently, she gripped his hand and followed him out into the hallway, which was filled with a low, eerie buzz caused by the few students who were able to speak in hushed tones.
Jess pushed her students rather forcefully into the dungeons. "Hurry up, get to bed." When they were in, she slipped away into the crowd, following the students up until she seperated silently from them and silently entered the Hospital Wing. She searched for Madam Pomfrey, making sure she wasn't around before she spotted Peter's bed and took a seat on the edge, shaking his shoulder to wake him up.

Ray continued to walk, more mechanically than anything, up to the Ravenclaw Dormitories. He looked down at Desiree. "Your stop," he said, voice hollow.
Peter winced. His wrist was still throbbing. "Oh...hey. You're alright," he said, his face breaking into a pained grimace/smile.

Desiree nodded to him, not exactly wanting to go in. "I wish I could follow you." She looked at the entrance, a single tear falling. She had just seen Jennifer enter earlier that evening, chatting excitedly about the new dress robes she had purchased for the dance.
Jess felt something in her stomach drop as she looked at his bandaged hand. She got a strange sensation in her chest, on the left side, which was very very foreign to her. She wondered if she was dying or something. "Yeah, I'm fine..." She brushed some hair from his face, a strange smile on her face. It was different than normal, not flirty or wicked or anything. It was almost...comforting...very odd indeed. "How are you?"

Ray nodded. There was nothing either of them could say to make the other feel better, but Desiree's presence was comforting.
Peter raised his hand. "I've been better," he said with a feigned casual shrug, before dropping his hand. It hurt like the dickens. "Is everyone else alright? What about that girl? Is she..." his voice dropped. He couldn't quite bring himself to say it.

"Come on, into the dormitories. Every needs to be in within ten minutes."
Desiree looked up at the prefect who had spoken and nodded. She turned back to Ray and threw her arms around his neck, pulling herself close to him as she cried a few silent tears into his shoulder.
Jess nodded. "'Fraid so." She didn't seem all too compassionate about it, though the sight of his hand all wrapped up brought an uncomfortable, unfamiliar sting to her eyes. She bent down and gave him an uncharaceristic kiss, soft and gentle, unlike her usual seductive Frenchers. Something strange was going on with her, and not even she knew what.

Ray hugged her once and let her go, feeling unusually detached. Jennifer's death had thrown him completely.
Peter gave Jess as much of a smile as he could muster. She was being very sympathetic now. Aah. Jess really was the perfect girlfriend. How could he have had his doubts?

With a final glance up at him, Desiree silently drew herself into a kiss before allowing the prefect to push her towards the door. "Meet me here tomorrow morning." She left him with a final, melancholy glance and entered her common room, where students were already lighting candles and finding photographs of Jennifer.
Jess returned his smile sadly, taking his non injured hand in hers. "Thanks for saving me back there by the way. You put yourself in danger for me, that's really something." What the hell was going on with her? She wanted to slap herself for feeling such a sudden emotional attachment to him, she had no idea where it came from. It was sort of a dropped feeling in her stomach that made her feel tense and sad for him and she detested it.

Peter smiled, feeling pleased. The pain in his hand was starting to ebb away. "I'd sooner kill myself than let you get hurt," he told her honestly, giving her hand a tight, quick squeeze.

Why hadn't she noticed before? He was so dedicated to her, so in love, and she had just acted horrendously to him, sleeping around behind his back and doing all sorts of terrible things with his friends. This train of thought was not like her, but she was feeling very emotional at the moment as she let a few tears fall down her face. "Oh Peter...I love you." She kissed him then layed down next to him, resting her head on his chest.

"I know," said Peter, bewildered, kissing her head automatically. "Jess, it's alright. I'll be fine. I love you too, Jess. It's alright." Her words weren't unusual, although there was something decidedly melacholy in her voice. He hadn't really expected Jess to react so strongly to this.

Jess squeezed his hand, a million thoughts of terrible she had been filling up her overburdened mind. There was the momentary reminder of her real self, the self wondering why the hell she felt so emotional. She didn't give one way or another if they were together or not, he was just a way to get gifts and release sexual tension, right? "How long are you staying?"

"Madame Pomfrey says that if I recover quickly I'll be out in 4 days. If not...up to two weeks. The woman barely ever leaves my bedside. It's awful. I can't eat a Chocolate Frog without her staring me down."

Jess nodded, feeling so tired after the night. At the mention of the Chocolate Frog, she felt nauseous. It was too late at night and she was currently too stressed trying to figure out her emotional disfunction to think about eating candy.

Peter studied Jess, who looked more exhausted than he'd ever seen her. "Are you feeling alright?" he asked. They'd been up at all hours before; she'd never seemed so bothered.
