Jess sat up again and shrugged, a weary expression on her face. "I honestly don't know. I think I may have caught something the other night." She had been out by the lake the other night, having told Peter she had to go do silent meditation for Divination extra credit (of course, snogging a 7th year Ravenclaw tended to cloud the Inner Eye).

Peter watched her a few moments longer before his eyelids began to feel very heavy. "Just...stay here, then," he said, before dropping off into a half-sleep.

"Alright." She layed down again, resting her head on his shoulder for a few moments as she thought to herself. She still couldn't pinpoint the exact reason for her sudden change of mind, but she figured in the end that a good night's rest and she would be back to normal. Having a heart was too much hassle.

The next morning, Ray woke up with a disgusting taste in his mouth. He brushed his teeth, but it was still there. Less of a taste now, and more of a feeling. He was still jarred. He still didn't want to talk, or speculate on Jennifer's death. He slipped his school robe on over his boxers and T-shirt and slipped out of the portrait hole to the Ravenclaw Common Room.

Desiree was already outside the Commoon Room, sitting against the wall with her legs drawn in and her hands resting on her knees, her head on top of them. She had an empty, dull look in her eyes, and she had a black rose pinned to the right side of her robe.

Ray walked slowly to where Desiree was sitting. Students were on their way to breakfast, which made him feel almost nauseated. He bend down and touched Desiree's shoulder lightly. "You want to sit inside?" he asked, looking at the Ravenclaw Common Room's portrait.

Desiree sighed, bringing herself back into reality and glanced back up to him, shaking her head. "No..." Her voice was a whisper. "They're all in there crying and talking about her. I don't think I can deal with it right now."

Ray nodded and sunk down next to her, dark shadows under his eyes. He didn't know what to do with himself. He partially wanted to go back into bed until he was dragged out, and he didn't want to leave Desiree alone, and a small, insane part of him wanted to go swimming in the lake.

Desiree glanced to the side before she leaned over and rested her head on his shoulder. "You look like you haven't slept in days." She took Ray's hand and interlaced their fingers, feeling the way that he looked with his tired eyes.

"I slept," answered Ray, with a flat, dead voice. "Not enough, I guess." He curled his fingers around Desiree's, and looked at her. "What about you?"

Desiree shook her head. "No. None of us did. We all sat around in our dormitories for about an hour before we got everyone to come back into the common room and have a sort of candlelight ceremony for her. I made these." She pointed to the rose on her lapel with a frown. "They're charmed not to wilt."

Ray smiled and felt somewhat impressed, though detached, with Desiree's handiwork at a time like this. "Nice touch." He pressed the back of his head against the wall now, looking straight ahead. "We should go visit Peter."

"Yeah...probably." Desiree took a deep breath, kissing Ray on the cheek in a sort of last ditch attempt at being comforted. "I just hope we don't walk in on Jess trying to seduce him again."
Jess, meanwhile, was doing nothing of the sort. She was simply waking up next to Peter, curled up slightly and gripping onto his shirt. As she opened her eyes, she felt as though she were almost feverish, the light hitting her eyes and making her feel ill and dizzy. She shut her eyes again and clapped her hand over them to block out the light.

"Even now, with his injury?" asked Ray. "You think about her too much," he said absentmindedly, still staring straight ahead. "Jess, I mean."
Madame Pomfrey bustled into the room to check that Peter was doing alright, and near-shrieked when she found Jess. "Out, out, out," she hissed, having no affection for the girl that had given chickenpox to no less than 14 boys in one week's time.

Desiree shrugged off his comment and passed down the stairs onto the hall with the Hospital Wing.
Jess passed by her, looking ill and miserable, her head down as she exited the room and walked past the two silently.
