I saw August Rush and I am Legend. My critique for both is that while I liked both, I would have like to change the endings for both.

I saw it yesterday. It was good, but I think I wouldn't have liked it if it weren't for the way it was entirely from the perspective of the guy with the handheld camera.

I liked it, it wasn't my favorite movie ever, but it was entertaining. Only problem was that my boyfriend had to close his eyes several times so that he wouldn't stroke out from the flashing lights. :S Kind of intense.
If you like freaky movies that make you think, then I'd recommend going to see it. If you don't... save your money.

I heard that the character development was pretty bad for that movie. The people I've talked to said they didn't feel anything for the characters, so they were kind of "meh" in regards to the stuff that happened to them.

Monster movies generally aren't about character development or plot depth.
It's purely an aesthetic experience.
That said, I haven't seen Cloverfield yet, but the camera thing is really turning me off from bothering with it. It's weird, because from what I've heard, the reviews generally fall into two camps:
1) Cloversuck. Self-explanatory.
2) ZOMG AWESOME, but I didn't really get a good look at the monster, and I didn't like the camera work. LOLWUT?
How can a monster movie be good if you don't get a good look at the monster? Or if you dislike the way it was shot? I don't know. It seems very counterintuitive. I'll have to see it for myself. But the camera work could very will kill it for me.
