I rather have them tour out of anime conventions but, if it is the only way they will play in the US then, I guess that's better than nothing.

Ok, I feel the need to post an unadulterated reply before I read everyone else's, so I might post more later, in response to other people.
Anyway, I agree, I'm of mixed feelings. Especially because, I was blessed with the opportunity to go see 2 of my favorite bands/musicians perform in just such an arena. As such, I treasure the opportunity I had, and I appreciate the cons for bringing them. And I also disagree a bit on the types of bands being brought over. There's just as much jpop being brought over, and yes, it's being tied into the anime in the same way, but again, not all of it is related to anime. And in that respect, I agree with you on disliking it. It's a bit of an insult to the band, because it's... almost exploiting them for that one aspect, or one area that they are portraying through this arena. And it's also annoying because of how freakin many people lined up for the concerts before me who had no idea what songs the band had done. That bites too, though I'd probably still be annoyed if they were all actual fans. And yet again, it's an introduction. It may be a slow one, but it is an introduction to a new audience. And some of them maybe go on to do more with that introduction. And specifically for L'arc, I think something like this was planned for a long time. I don't care how hard it was to find Clicked 13, it was an American release, and they also did a theme song for an American movie. And that soundtrack was not hard to find.

Kaidan Nalfein Kaidan i know something J-rock coming out in comventions isn't too bad... The way I look at it it's the only chance I have to go to a live without going to Japan. I don't have a lot of money, so it's easier for me. It is sad that more don't tour or anything, and hopefully more will in future.... I just hope I can catch a few good bands at some point... XD People don't realize how many more bands tour the US outside anime conventions. The conventions are easily outnumbered. Not only that, but it's usually cheaper to see them outside a convention. It's because the bands that do independent tours, apart from anything anime-related, aren't part of the visual kei wave that's currently invading the InterWeb in America. OOPS. Just means more quality entertainment for the rest of us. Ok, I just have to point out, that I've had opportunity to go to a concert for Polysics and Melt Banana, but I didn't go to either, because I wasn't familiar with the band, and then, it turned out, I don't really care for the music anyway. The plus side to the conventions is that, I've already heard the band if I'm planning to go for them, plus, I'm already at the con, because I am an anime fan, and it's a free concert if it's someone new. This how I found out Duel Jewel sucks. I walked by the concert on my way to something else and it was horrible the noise that was coming from there. Can you even call that music?

I agree, I'm halfies with that. I saw Laruku at Otakon this year and it was possibly the grestest night of my life...however, barely anyone there knew them and therefore alot of people weren't enjoying the concert as fans (like I was, anyway razz ). On one hand I always wish they would come to America because I want to see them! But on the other hand, if they got all big and mainstream in America, well....no props to that. x_X

deepblack But on the other hand, if they got all big and mainstream in America, well....no props to that. x_X From what I've noticed, there's nothing to worry about there. Japanese bands have been randomly touring the US for years, but few people care to know that. Even now they're still barely making a dent in the market, and usually only seen as a novelty act.

Tsukasaa The only foreign bands I've heard about that succeeded in America, sang mostly in English. Only a third of the Japanese things that I have seen that have touched even slightly on the american market have been in english. There are ONLY three. XD First, Pizzicato 5's big one that got played on american radio stations (Twiggy vs. James Bond....i think that's the name) was completely in Japanese (also featured on Charlie's Angels 2, but left off the soundtrack), Drum:kan's Throw video was shown on MTV2 at one point, also Japanese. And lastly, Cornelius's Point of View video was also shown on MTV2. This one is in English. But these are just the ones that have reached my radar...there are probably more that I've missed...quite a few, I'm betting. But really, I think the key to making it big in america is being featured in a really popular anime. Like Rurouni Kenshin. Look at how many of the bands they featured that have come to america. :O

In this country, when I say that I'm a Jrock fan, people stares at me like "OMG, what are u talking about?" or "Why do u like that?"... it's ok, but I only ask for respect ...

They had another one that played on the Gadzook's MTV stream, cause a friend of mine who works there asked me to find it, but at the time, I couldn't find anything by Pizzicato 5. And to add to that, again, L'arc's song in Final Fantasy, which they recorded in English for the movie. They sang it in English at the Otakon performance too, which I thought was nice. Question, this is jpop, but, does anyone know if Fayray has any kind of an American release, or was planning one? She's done a TON of stuff in English, and I'm wondering why.
