The journey back with Liliana was unusually quiet. Arete boarded the train to the Nevan Gates when the time finally came, and took a compartment with her.

Arete had told her it was a private compartment so she would be free of excessive energy that make her head hurt. Her head turned towards the sound of the door closing. "Arete? Do you play around?" Liliana asked quietly. Her vision was getting to her and she wanted to know if this wasn't the first time.

The wife said her son was playing around with the girls nearby and that he should just pick one." Liliana patted a spot beside her, beckoning Arete to sit down.

"Of course not." Arete honestly reassured her. "Listen, I may get a bad rep from time to time as a bit of a playboy, but I remember every woman I've ever kissed and they all meant something." He moved his hand over hers. "So please, don't ever think I see you as just another notch on my belt. Or...is it my lips? We haven't gotten to the belt part yet." Arete laughed, trying to lighten the mood.

Arete smiled. So that was what she was worried about. Without hesitation he comforted her again by wrapping his arm around her. He pulled her close. "Listen to me." he said. "Whatever lies beyond this train ride is a little later on. Regardless of warnings, the future doesn't scare me at all. Because nothing is like before. So hold me." he whispered softly, as if singing a simple but pleasant song.

Liliana was trying hard to convince herself it was just a random vision that wouldn't come to pass. But she just couldn't feel it. "Maybe you could sing? Just a small tune?"
