“Well mother if we don’t round up all of my siblings I think you’ll miss talking to us all.” He gave her a smile and wink. “After all it seems my little sisters have gone off and stolen all of their older brothers.” He took a look around and made note of the others he could see. Jolana and Raz were training. Eri watched for a moment realizing that it was self defense that Raz was teaching their sister. “Mother I think Raz has the right idea. If you want all of your children to be able to stay out of the Six’s clutched perhaps some training needs to be done. Not only physical but mental as well.” He looked at her questioningly. Would she allow her little girls to undergo training so young? He wasn’t sure that he would let his own foals if he ever had any to train until they were strong enough to handle it.

"Yes Jolana," answered Raz, "There are any number of dangers out there, away from the safety of mother's side. There are those not unlike ourselves, who would wish you harm, simply because you do not follow the path they have chosen. And there are stallions as big as me who might try to force you to do something you don't want to do. It would benefit you to know how to protect yourself." He looked over to where his mother was talking with Eri, "Mother, you don't mind me teaching her a little self-defense do you? I'll keep it simple, promise."

So soon? They were so young still and there really were no other azrein who passed by except for for family. Looking in the direction of Raz and Jolana, she smiled, knowing that she had someone that she could look up to. Her son was living down south, but that did not have t mean that he was willing to follow the ways down there, just had to live up to the harsh lands, which was good for learning defense and survival skills.

She nodded to Raz for permission to teach Jolana a thing or two about defending herself. Just the thought of something happening to them would break her heart and she could not hold that again. "Yes, yes. You do have Desoi to play with once he's awake though. ... Do you think that they might fall into the wrong hands and become ... monsters one day?"

Desoi? What an interesting name. Eri looked down at his slumbering little brother and nodded. He was certain that he could teach his brother a thing or two and he would try to make it fun if he could. After all things were much easier to learn if one thought they were a game of sorts. “I’d be happy to play with him mother.” He heard her question and thought on it for a moment. In some ways he could see his siblings growing up and becoming monsters if they chose that path, but he didn’t want to say that to his mother. He lowered his head and butted it against her side softly. “Mother I don’t think you need to fret so much. Little ones live what they learn, if raised with care and kindness I am sure they will turn out just fine. After all even being raised in the Six’s land didn’t make Nasu or Raz turn out evil. Father gave them love and care and look at them. Just as you loved and cared for Karit and myself. It will be well mother.”

Raz waited until Eri was done speaking and then spoke up in answer to his mother's question. To him, it had sounded as though she were trying to make a joke, so he answered in similar manner. "Oh mother, you know perfectly well that all of the monsters in the land reside far to the south of here. So no worries about your little ones falling into their hands. Nasu, Father and I are doing our part to keep them at bay." He turned to Jolana and said, "But little sister, you'd best not venture too far south on your own, because one never knows when a monster or two might slip by our defenses, and make its way north."

He pondered Eri's remark about their father giving him and Nasu love and care, and wondered if he were simply trying to ease their mother's concern for them, or if he really did believe that it had been that way. Raz just didn't remember it that way, and he was the one who had lived it. "Come on little sister," he said to Jolana, "let's see just how nimble and quick you really are." He led her out into the open field and started putting her through some light paces.

Jolana listened to the conversation around her and her ears went back in fear from what she was hearing. She had heard about the 'monsters' in the south and she never wanted to met any of them. She quietly followed after her brother, trying to think of what to say as he led her to the open field.

"Are those in the South really that bad?"she asked softly. Then she began to do everything he told her to do, trying to show just how nimble and quick she could be.

She was uncertain of both her sons' words, but took it in. They did not end up like monsters themselves, but that didn't have to mean that their younger siblings wouldn't. Without wanting much of an argument, she stood to watch the little lesson.

Raz watched Jolana follow his instructions and was pleased to see how quickly she took to his instruction. After a while he called a halt to the lessons and taking her aside, he tried to relieve her fears, which were evident from her early question. "There are no real monsters in the south Jolana. I think mother may have been joking when she made that remark. I was just playing along with her. But you must be very careful if you ever have reason to go down into the southern lands. For there are those of our kind who are not as nice as those of us here. Nasu and I live among some of them, because we chose to follow father south when we were your age. You mustn't tell anyone this, but lately, I have been trying to decide if I would leave the herd I live with, and come back north. It won't be easy, and there will be those who would try to stop me. If I do manage to leave them, be sure I will come back and spend some time with you. Now, let us rejoin the others and remember, tell no one of my intentions. I do not want mother to get her hopes up, and I have not yet said anything to our father." He nuzzled her face with his nose and trotted back to where the others were watching.

Jolana had enjoyed the training from her big brother and was curious as he pulled her aside. She listened to his words carefully and seemed a little relieved when her brother told her that there were no monsters, she just needed to be careful while she was up there. The next thing he said caught her by surprise and her eyes widened, looking at him like she wasn't quite sure what to say.

"Okay, I won't tell Mama,"she replied. She didn't want her mother to be sad, if it didn't happen the way she wanted. Then she began to follow Raz back to where the rest of their family was.

((I took Jolana "aside" so that no one else would hear what he told her. If Nasu had been there with them, he never would have told her all of that Kovak.))

Raz walked back to stand next to his mother. Looking down at the sleeping colt he asked her, "So mother, are you going to let this young, lazy bones sleep away our whole visit? Or is he sick?" He'd never seen a colt sleep through so much activity going on around him. He wanted to meet his new little brother before he had to leave and head back south. Seeing his family again really made him want even more to leave the herd and return north. He was half tempted to nudge the sleeping boy with his hoof and wake him up.

Looking at Desoi, he was right. It wasn't natural for any foal to be this quiet... Smelling the youngest of her males, her nose crinkled, not knowing what was wrong with him. Sure he was sleeping, but there was something else to it too. "Looks like 'Lazy Bones' is a very heavy sleeper." she spoke with a hint of worry. What if he was sick? He couldn't be at this age!

He looked down at his youngest brother with worry. It was true Desoi was very quite. Leaning down next to his mother he listened to even breathing. Well his brother was still alive, but he wondered what was wrong. “mother are colts usually this quite?” He knew he had never been a loud foal but he was never a still or silent one like his little brother.

She shook her head. "No. They are usually vigorous and not like him at all." Remaining calm but freaking out in the inside, she knew that she could only hope for the best. "Never before had I seen a foal this quiet. Do you know what could be wrong?"
