She nodded when he repeated the ‘we’ of course she was coming with him. She had no idea where his stupid tree was at so she’d have to find out she wasn’t just going to leave him until she found that out. After all she had said she was going to be his friend. Following him she was surprised at the pace he set. She would have figured him for the type to race of toward the woods like a bird with its tail on fire. Pleasantly surprised and glad to be wrong she watched as other gladiers who were coming out started to play. Good. As long as she was with him it seemed like others just thought they were part of a group of some sort so they’d leave her and him alone. Trotting to keep up she looked back at Lightning. She wanted to talk to him but wasn’t sure that he was up for it after all he seemed pretty intent on escaping and then of course she had been bugging him a lot. Well bugging and yelling but he deserved that latter. No he doesn’t you’re just oversensitive.

Lightning could feel his body tense as he glanced jealously at the other Gladiers that were playing and laughing together. That was something he couldn't be a part of. As they got farther away from the lake, other thoughts forced their way to the front of his mind. Quite a few of them were speculations about this mysterious Gladier that Ithil seemed to be comparing him to. 'What if that's the only reason she wants to be my friend?' The question was not a pleasant one, and he pushed it into the corner of his mind. '... It's too quiet.' He pulled his attention from his thoughts in order to focus on Ithil. Glancing at her before setting his eyes forward again, he finally spoke. "... I lost track. Who's turn is it to ask the questions?"

That was a good question. “You know I don’t remember but since that was a question I’m gonna count it.” Ithil was merciless simply because she felt like it. “So what other reckless things do you do that merit watching?” Well it wasn’t a nice way of finding out what other interesting things the idiot did with his free time at least she was expressing some curiosity. She glanced at him and was again shocked by the intensity that always seemed to be behind those eyes of his. A part of her internally shivered. She had a feeling that if the pawn of storms wanted to go after something then he would do so without hesitation. That scared her. After all her friend who was like that had left to follow another gladier and that had not ended well at all. Ithil couldn’t even guess how much pain the other gladier felt before.. she didn’t want to see that happen to this stupid idiot. There were few enough gladiers worth watching. She didn’t want to know another had died when it could have so easily been prevented.

Lightning's eye twitched, but his expression didn't change much. "Other reckless things?" he parroted sarcastically. "Whatever could you mean?" He went quiet for a few moments. "Well, I fight off the people that jump me, dodge traps and other prank-related items, run up trees, run in trees, and once I rode down a waterfall." He paused then added, "Though that one was unintentional. And I'm not sure it was really that reckless... it was small. No sharp rocks at the bottom either. Anyway... reckless things..." He stopped in his walk, resisting the urge to look over his shoulder at the happy Gladiers. "... Trying to be a part of that." His voice had dropped significantly in volume, and nothing in his tone suggested a joke. But a minute later he was walking again and back to his flippant listing. "Rock climbing--well, more like mountain climbing, sand running, everything to do with even setting foot in Gaia... No cliff jumping." His last statement was said abruptly, as if he was cutting himself off from his own casual list of recklessness.

Ithil took his sarcasm but gave him a face that said she really didn’t like it. Jerk he didn’t have to be so uppity all the time. Then he started to list off the things that he did and Ithil’s eyes got wide the more he spoke. A waterfall? She didn’t care how small it was that would scare the living daylights out of her. When he stopped so did she; and she barely managed to catch what he said. He wasn’t looking at anything in particular when he said that so she looked around and could only see the happy gladiers playing. Did he want to be a part of that? It seemed odd to Ithil who thought it was stupid but amazing to do some of the things that Lightning did. He took off again so fast and was listing things that she had to hop and speed up to catch up and keep listening. Geeze he was fast. Taking a breath she steadied her pace once she caught up. “Well that settles it. You’re an idiot of amazing status and you really do need me to look out for you and stop you from doing something too stupid. Besides I clearly have to teach you some less ‘oh lets nearly kill myself’ things to do. Like a game. We could play games from time to time if you’re not too busy riding down waterfalls. Where would you even find a waterfa… nevermind I’m not sure I wanna know.” She sighed and shook her head and looked over at her new friend.

Lightning huffed. "I do plenty of things that are neither reckless nor stupid," he informed her. "You just didn't ask about them." But she called him amazing along with being an idiot, which put an extra spring into his step.
Until she mentioned games, that is. The Gladier froze, a familiar feeling of dread coiling up in his guts. "I... I-I'm not good with games," he mumbled, shuffling in discomfort. Trying to push past the uncomfortable subject, he added, "And I told you, that was only once! And an accident at that! I swear, you only listen to half of what I say." He picked up his pace a little, in part to avoid Ithil's gaze. "... And I already told you, I can take care of myself."
'You're pushing her away,' his mind warned. 'If you continue, she'll leave... just like the others did.' The thought terrified him, but he didn't let it show on his face. He tried to think 'Good riddance,' but he was finding that, despite the fact that she insulted his intelligence... he really liked Ithil's company. 'Until she finds about the real you,' a poisonous part of his mind sneered. 'Just wait. She'll drop you faster than a hot potato.' No. She wouldn't, would she? She'd--infuriatingly--stuck with him so far. Ithil wouldn't just up and leave... would she?

She tried hard not to laugh seeing him all in a huff like that. It was funny, until he stopped and seemed to crumble in on himself. He started to mumble and then he started to snap at her. “Well of course I only listen to half of what you say. The other half of the time you’re snapping at me like you are now.” She glared at him and picked up the pace. “You know your coat is way too thin if you can’t even take a joke, I mean really. You take so many things so literally.” She shook her head and tripped. Landing flat on her face she growled and got back up shaking off. “Stop running you… you..” She made a noise and glared at him some more.
She couldn’t keep up with him. She hated the feeling of being left behind but how could she keep up with a pace like his. He was the kind to go and do what he wanted and do it well, while she was the kind to stay around a spot and just be boring and plain. Biting her lip she looked down at her paws in shame. She would not lose! Not again. Closing her eyes she sighed and shoved those thoughts aside. She said she was going to be a friend and this was not how a friend behaved. Opening her eyes she looked at him and did something she never thought she’d do. “I’m sorry.”

'See? You screwed up again. It was just a joooke, Pawn. What's your problem? Oh wait, that's right... you don't have a sense of humor.' He could feel every fiber in his body tense when she growled, and he winced when she told him to stop running. Deciding that his comments were just getting him into more trouble, he wordlessly slowed back down to his previous pace. 'Ha. She thought that was your run? Just wait until she sees your real run--if she can see it, Mr. Speedster. Not gonna tell her about that either? No? What about that inner demon of yours? You know, the one that's not so inner anymore? Or what about--' The stream of stinging thoughts were cut off by something that caught him completely offguard:
Ithil apologized.
His head swiveled so that he could stare at her for a moment, but then he glanced away just as quickly. "... I'm the one who should be saying sorry. I--" Something started digging into his paw as he moved forward, so he stopped immediately. 'Trap,' his mind instantly declared as he took a step back from the string. He turned to warn Ithil, but her paw had already pulled the string enough to trigger it. Without missing a beat, Lightning shoved Ithil out of the way, biting back a yelp as a bucket slammed into him. He grimaced as it tipped and its contents poured out, catching him across his back. It was a putrid concoction of what appeared to be ground-up berries and yellow paint by the color and texture, and the smell made him gag. 'Well, this has been a fun day,' he thought sourly. Started out by landing on Ithil's tail; then he irritated her to no end, had his storm ruined, and now he was covered in something absolutely repulsive. 'Hey, now your outsides match your insides!' And of course his mind was reminding him what a horrible person he was.
Forcing himself out of his self-loathing, he searched for Ithil. "Are you ok?" he managed to ask, trying not to gag as he inhaled the horrendous stench of the mess dripping down his sides.

Seeing him turnabout she was surprised when he turned around and started to apologize. It was strange though. He started and then stopped and before Ith could think he slammed into her and sent her skidding away. She didn’t yelp or cry out but she did make a squeaking sound. She heard a thud and was going to chew that stupid male’s ear off but when she looked up she saw he was covered with something nasty and smelly. She was blinking back tears that the smell brought on when he asked her if she was ok. “uh I’d look at you first and ask that question.” That thud had sounded really loud and must have hurt. Gagging she moved forward and raised up a paw and swiped a huge clump of that guk off of him. It was sick and the berries she had eaten before were threatening to come up for an unplanned visit. Reaching up again she batted more off him. She opened her mouth to speak and make a snarky comment and promptly had to close it again as she started to nearly retch. After coughing a few time she managed to get out a word. “Lake.” She gestured back the way they had come of course it would mean having to pass by all those happy gladiers again. She figured they would laugh and she might have to beat a few of them. Ith rarely got into fights but she never played nice when she did. She wondered what the heck the stuff was on idiot’s fur it was bright yellow and wet and parts of it on her fur were already drying and felt really sticky. She hadn’t seen or felt anything like it. The smell was enough to make her feel slightly light headed. She shook her head and looked again in the direction of the lake. She really wanted to shove Lightning Pawn in it now. Right now. No delays.

"I'm fine," he forced out as she tried to remove the gross concoction from his back. He wordlessly followed her towards the lake, frowning as he watched Ithil shake her head. 'That's not good.' If they didn't do something, she might pass out before they got there. He paused and looked around as they went, searching the plantlife around them. 'Gah. I don't see it. Maybe I should just run for the lake. But then Ithil would yell again... Agh, I don't have time for this!' He kept looking as they walked, but his focus kept settling on Ithil. Would she be alright? The stench from the trap made even him feel dizzy. He was so occupied by those thoughts that he nearly missed seeing what he was looking for. "Ah... There." He darted away from Ithil for a moment and plucked a plant from the ground. Rejoining Ithil, he held the plant by her face. "Inhale slowly," he tried to say with the plant in his teeth. He was trying to do the same, his eyes watering a little at the clash of the putrid scent from his back and the strong scent of the mint in his teeth. "Don't you dare pass out on me," he added with a growl. They just had to get back to the lake. Then it'd be fine. He'd wash the gunk off of himself and the smell wouldn't bother them anymore.

Going with the idiot to the lake was a torture. He couldn’t smell any worse if he tried to. She wondered how he didn’t pass out from the smell, she certainly felt like she was going to. He must either have guts of steel or a burned out nose. When he left her side she wanted to yell at him but was secretly grateful for a break from the odoriferous air about him. Then he came back with a plant and she was confused until he rammed it up by her face. She had drawn back a bit but since he was so close she couldn’t help but smell the leaves. It was a tart but sweet scent and she liked it, though it did burn a bit at first. Not taking it from him she kept walking beside occasionally leaning over and taking a breath. She heard him growl at her and nearly grinned. “I won’t pass out. After all nearly isn’t passing out is it?” Not being beaten down by the stench gave her time to get her snarky attitude back into place like it belonged. “Besides if anyone passed out it’s gonna be you and I’ll have to drag you to the lake by your tail.” She stuck out her tongue but quickly put it back when she could taste the nasty gunk that he had on his back in the air. Making a face she leaned over and smelled the mint again.

Lightning huffed at her declaration that she wouldn't pass out and gave her a sour look at the following comment. He fought the urge to laugh when she stuck out her tongue, only to have it retreat back into her mouth to escape the influence of the trap's mess. "I could've been there already," Lightning replied the best he could. "But then you'd yell at me for leaving you behind." That, and he was finding that he didn't really want to leave her behind--and not just because she'd yell. But he couldn't really put a paw on the reason why.

Snorting loudly and very unlady like she nodded. “Of course I’d yell at you for leaving me behind. And I don’t move that slow!” She picked up her pace a bit so they could reach the lake faster. Geeze why was this idiot so infuriating. She could see the lake and that made her speed up even more. Now she was just short of a run. After all the sooner Lighting got washed off the sooner the smell would be gone. Of course every breather she took now just reeked of the nasty mix on Lightning. It made her eyes water and she hoped it came off easily in the water because if it didn’t she would have to figure something out to get it off him.

"I know you're not slow! It's just that..." Lightning Pawn trailed off as she sped up, easily keeping pace with her but not really wanting to finish his sentence. 'I'm too fast.' He sped up again when she did, but ended up accelerating too much. The Gladier paused for a moment to allow Ithil to catch up before matching her pace again.
As they reached the lake, Lightning didn't slow down. He dropped the mint on the shore as he ran, launching himself into the air and soaring above the water before crashing into it. He remained below the surface until his lungs screamed in protest, then reluctantly resurfaced for air. He dived again, repeating the process until nearly all of the vulgar concoction was gone. Then he swam towards Ithil, his blue eyes instinctively looking around and taking note of the eyes on him. 'Well, that's no surprise. The stench probably reached their noses too.' He dove once more and swam underwater until the water was too shallow. Lightning pulled himself out of the water a small ways away from Ithil, shaking the water from his fur before looking at the female. He gave her a weak smile before inspecting his fur for any remnants of the yellow gunk.

Ith was proud of herself for a moment she got him to hush up. After all she knew she wasn’t the fastest gladier but she could move when she wanted. She watched him go past her and into the lake with a flying leap. She gasped and watched him clean off as she noticed a bunch of other gladiers start coming closer. Some were laughing others were shoots incredulous looks Lightning’s way. This annoyed Ith after all these gladiers didn’t know him and he had just made a very impressive leap to get in the water, and he could stay underwater for a long time. She took the time to wash her own paws off and clean up a bit. When he broke the surface and came back. She gave him a huge grin. “Very impressive, but you know what I think I’d only give it a nine out of ten. I’m sure could have made a bigger splash if you tried. Kudos to you for having the lungs of a fish though.” She started to clap loudly and kept her eyes just on him. To her surprise a few others started to clap too. That made her feel a bit better. He was looking for bits of gunk left in his fur but Ith didn’t see any so she didn’t even bother to offer to help him out. If there had been any gunk left she didn’t want to deal with it.
