Lucky for Jerry, Melvin was distracting the beast who was now circling Melvin around a cluster of trees. Glancing over, Melvin just shoot his head when he saw Jerry trip. "He better not be drinking again." He muttered under his breath before shouting. "Yeah Ugly! Just keep following!"
He moved around the tree, ducking under some vines that the bigger beast had a time struggling to claw through.

"Hey! HEY YEAH, OVER HERE!!" Jerry snarled as he gathered himself up to his feet again. He had to get there. He was just getting tired.
He shot a quick bark to distract it. The trainee was making a wonderful distraction at least.

Melvin glared back at the Sun as he tried to call the creature back. "Don't call it back! I got this! JUST FIRE!!!" This was the only thing he was doing and there were plenty of vines here. This this was fast but with vines it just flailed around a lot. As it tore through it's one vines, Melvin moved to another patch and hide behind a curtain or more vines.
The Shadow wasn't very bright and rushed forward, only managing to tangle itself like a kitten in yarn.

Jerry gave a wary growl, but ultimately dodged forward to plant his feet and aim. "Just don't get too cocky! Last thing we need is you to get eaten!" He shouted before giving a wild, "FIRE IN THE HOLE!"
The vines were no longer that shadow creature's primary worry.

"We'll the same to you!" Melvin shouted back, feeling that Jerry had been closer to being a snack than he had been. That was confirmed when the creature was hit and turned, leaking in the air at the Sun.

The spring took the sun hunter by surprise, his Fearful blast going wild as the creature landed on him, sending his flask tumbling from his pocket.

Case and point, Jerry was almost dinner. Melvin knew that his best chance at surviving was to keep the Sun from turning into a Shadow treat, and guessed that he'd have to get his Fear shield scratched every once in a while to keep him alive.
Picking up a sharp stick and feeling a bit native, he went behind the creature and stabbed the stick underneath. If it had a tender spot, best bet that was where it was going to be.

The shadow had scooped up the fallen flask, giving it several annoyed chews before dropping the metal thing to turn and hiss at the hunter poking at it with a stick. Jerry stared down at the dented, mangled thing. He looked up at the snapping creature.  Roar was quickly flipped into position, the blast sending the creature rolling through the ferns with a squealing roar. Damage: 8 Target: Monster (8/50) Charge: -/3, 1/3, 0/3 Defended for 4 HP: 53/60

The same blast did a great job deafening Melvin who was now holding his head as a horrible ringing rang through his ears. He wasn't much use right now other than being a frozen target.

Jerry leaped forward, swinging Roar like a bludgeoning device and the two went tumbling. He twisted onto his knees, wrenching Roar down to pin the shifting, screeching creature under the weapon's shield of spines, "SHOOT IT."

He was surprised Jerry told HIM to shoot. Fumbling with his fun, he quickly aimed and managed to hit the creature's leg. It wasn't the best shot, that was certain, but at least it hit.

One final Fear-sucking sharp twist of Roar at the creature's neck, and it dissolved, allowing the Sun to wobble to his feet, straighten his glasses and give Melvin a pat on the shoulder, "See? You... you can do it!" He wobbled backward dizzily, but shook it off with a gleeful giggle and stuffed his poor wounded flask back in his coat pocket.

With the monster dead, Melvin followed after Jerry and pushed forward. Eyes sharp, he moved through the brush until he saw the hint of atone and metal. Heart leaping, he rushed ahead and found a gate before a vine-covered temple of some sort. The breezes picked up, swaying the vines and bringing with it the smell of the sea and exotic flora - along with the faintest tune.
Melvin paused before turning around, waiting on the Sun. "Jerry?"

Jerry stumbled forward, but almost immediately lost Melvin in the ancient stone walls. He couldn't hear her. Twists, turns, traps, sliding walls, small talking worms who want him to meet the missus' detaining him, but the Sun was intent. He had made this walk a thousand times it felt like... he could do this...

He wasn't sure where Melvin had gone, but at that point it didn't matter. He was here. Melvin was just a tool to guide him here... towards her. The music drifted up, he could hear her, he sang out in quiet harmony. He was coming.... There was no tingle, no tentacles, just his own feet...
