Ganyma struggled to look behind him and saw that - fortunately - Luxara had gotten a ride from her stagdad. "Sorry!" Ganyma yelped. He bounded over the sand, which was being torn out violently from under his boots. Hopefully the pigeon would be alright. Truthfully, Ganyma had no idea how well birds fared in a wind-tunnel. Now wasn't really the time to think about that, though.
Ganyma was breathing hard. With the added weight of the greenblood on his shoulders, this was the workout of a lifetime. The group made it at least two frupmiles in the desert before, finally and thankfully, the tornado receded. Ganyma collapsed onto the ground, letting Didero off as he fell to his knees.
He flipped over on his back and stared at the sky, wheezing. "WACKY weather, huh?" Wheeze, cough. "More like sand, sand and more sand! Sand clouds, sand tornadoes..."
Groaning, Ganyma sat up. The troll was covered in sweat, and hot to boot - even on the chilly night, his constant exercise was overheating him. He pulled off his hooded sweatshirt in favor of the airier tank underneath and wiped his face. The texture of damp sand was an unpleasant feeling on his fingers.
"Give me a second and then we can keep truckin'. Wherever we are," he mused. The landscape was completely unfamiliar now that the tornado had blasted away everything.

Stagdad galloped on over. Luxara slid off once he stopped, and quickly made sure that the little critters were a-ok. Then her teammates. Then, the big lug of a teenager on the ground. "Ummmm, boss, you can take all the time you like, man. Gotta be honest, you look really worn out and for a second there I thought you really WERE just gonna keel over and if YOU pass out what're WE gonna do like there's NOTHING out here and I guess what I'm trying to say is we'd be totally BONED if we lost you so take care of yourself! Jeez." This wasn't like the forest. Even if someone was after you or you were lost, you could hide for a bit or find SOMETHING to eat or drink. Here? Here it was empty, lonely, and Stagdad was great and all, but Ganyma was way more reliable when it came to actually FIGHTING things. And there was no way they'd be able to carry someone so large with them if he DID bank out.
"Sooooo..." she looked out over the dunes. "Now which way are we going?"

"What? No, of course I'm not worn out!" exclaimed Ganyma. He hopped up. The fact that the kids were relying on him was overwhelming. Ganyma could have picked up Luxara and hugged her right then and there.
He was indispensable! He was important! And to think this all came about in the desert, of all places. Ganyma had gained his second wind immediately. Confidence inspired and muscles shining with sweat, Ganyma shook off the rest of most of the sand caked to his back and tied his hoodie around his waist. "Right! Let's go over those dunes and see what we can see!"
Unbeknownst to Ganyma, the gerbils that had followed from the cave had subsequently been sucked up by the tornado. They plopped squeakily around the kids as he started to lumber off. At least there was one mystery solved.

"A-ha! Here comes the lusus!" Ganyma announced. He could nearly hear the trumpets play. He was gonna pummel the crap out of this thing. The tealblood expended no time in rushing it, sliding under its front legs to bring it to a scrabbling halt and pushing up on its torso.

"WHY IS IT RAINING GERBILS?!" Luxara was torn between being excited and horrified. Having little grasp on physics besides things fall down, she figured it was a real phenomenon. "DOES THIS HAPPEN OFTEN?"
Before she could wait for a response, that frilly friller lusus charged right on back towards them. "Well it's about time!" She got her net ready, fortunately not having lost it in all the previous chaos and confusion.

Luxara's net connected just in time. Ganyma tripped up the lusus as the net tangled around its hind legs and forced his arms up into its chest. A fine spray of blood speckled his face and chest. He blinked away some errant flecks and backed up as it kicked away Luxara's net once more.
((Let's go ahead and get more encounters in I think if Cylem's not back in 10-15~ I'll record this in the Tracker and can update it if we get a diddlepost in))

Luxara stretched in the aftermath. "Well that was exciting!" Stagdad just huffed, continually useless despite how irritated he seemed about literally everything.
She reached down for her net. "How do you know all those cool moves like did you LEARN them or does it just come naturally? I wanna do awesome stuff like that too some-" Oh. There was something in the sand. Small, golden, kinda buggy... "Oh hey! It's another one of those shinies you guys seem really into."

"Nice find! I guess in the woods you don't see a lot of beetles, huh?" Ganyma asked. He patted her on the head and grabbed one for himself. It was time to keep exploring.
"I've been trainin' all my life. Part of it's from watchin' a lot of wrestlin', and part of it's from necessity. I dunno. I've never been naturally good at anythin', so I'd just say it's a lot of hard work. And studyin' and trainin'!" He emphasized both and bopped each kid on the head.
The big chunk of technology in Ganyma's back was weighing him down. He snacked on a piece of jerky and sipped from his jug of water to lessen the strain on his back, offering his teammates a snack if they needed it. After the tornado, things seemed much more mundane. Ganyma scratched himself as he walked and managed to get a whiff of his own stench. He didn't have a great sense of smell, so the fact that he was nearly floored said... Well, it said a lot. Hopefully Rasali would forgive him if he showed up smelling like a week's old dead hoofbeast. She'd probably dunk him in the hotsprings with a gallon of herbs. Ganyma laughed out loud to himself.
After a long while, the lusus came back into sight. Ganyma was certainly getting his fill of lusus fighting this trip!

"This lusus has been a real good opportunity to show ya a great tip of wrestlin' I learned as a kid," Ganyma announced to Luxara. He slid his bag off and spread his weight evenly over both legs.
"This critter's strong and fast but ain't got much control. You gotta use that momentum against 'im. Like what I do, when I...." Ganyma grunted with pain as the lusus contacted him. He grabbed it under the frill and redirected its motion to unbalance it. The lusus warbled and toppled a bit on its scrabbly legs.
"Do that!"

"Well, we don't really see GOLDEN ones that you can't poke with a STICK, but..." It was nice to get headpat, though. Stagdad never did that. It was just nice to feel validated overall, really. Even the bopping was nice! She rubbed the top of her head before she nabbed some jerky, listening to Ganyma and smiling and nodding.
Between her and Gan it was amazing Didero wasn't suffocating from the smell, at least if he got stuck close enough between them; while too young to have body odor herself, Luxara WAS wearing clothing that only got washed in a blue sun. It was a miracle she didn't walk around in obvious stainage from mud, blood, and other things one would rather not think about.
She clapped her hands in excitement when Ganyma got to wrestle the lusus again. "That's so AWESOMMMME." For a second she forgot about her net, then, "Ope! Right!", did her part with it. She tried hard to pull it this way and that with her net, but she was too young to have much strength-based sway over it. "Hrrrrrgh!"

[ It was surprising that a night that involved being carried away from a tornado was shaping up to be not that bad! Morale was certainly high, which did a positive number on Didero's spirits.
And he was getting great wrestling tips! It would be great information to know should he ever need to write a wrestler character. Or a cool fight scene! Or, like, if he actually had to wrestle someone... Or something. Didero would rather the lusus-wrangling remained Ganyma's job.

"Grrar!" Ganyma hammed it up for his tiny audience, but soon had to focus back on making sure he made a dent in the lusus (without harming the WACKY). He grabbed onto the swinging cords of the machine and pulled its head around to give it a sharp thwack in the neck.

Thump! Another hit. Ganyma pulled a net aside so that he didn't stab right through it with his gloves. This lusus was really looking worse for wear. He couldn't help feeling a little bad for it. But, once it stopped running away maybe they could get the WACKY and set it free. Where did they say the lusus' troll was, again?
He stood rubbing his hands together as the lusus took off again. Good riddance for now.

"When it finally keels over, do you think we can have a big lusus spit roast?" Luxara asked as the thing slithered off into the night. "Man, just thinking about it's making me hungry..." She started idly kicking at the sand. It sifted over in little mounds once, twice, three times, thump. Wait, thump? Luxara blinked, realizing she hit something solid. "More gold bugs! Look at me, I'm a MAGNET for these things."

"Yeah, I don't... Think that we'll be eating it," mumbled Ganyma. He poked around in the sand, alternating between checking the lusus' tracks, the trail of blood that it left, and the frazzled desert underbrush.
"Haha, yeah! Just like a magnet!" Ganyma chuckled. "All of these gold things attracted to ya and all that." Ganyma was highly amused at the comparison. The group kept walking, until...
"Nets up! You guys are gettin' good at this!"
