Because the poultry market was on his side of the road and he couldn't bare the thought of seeing his mother's dead, naked, carcass up for sale as if she were nothing but meat to be had for someone's meal.

Selene Rosara Because the poultry market was on his side of the road and he couldn't bare the thought of seeing his mother's dead, naked, carcass up for sale as if she were nothing but meat to be had for someone's meal. That is quite possibly the most morbid, demented, sickening visual to that question I have ever heard of.
ninja Good job!

Since no one else has posted a response in just about a week, I'm going to submit the answer and bedazzle all of you! So.. What answer from a boring economics class applies to this question that makes it more true than anything else? Well.. here goes.
"Why did the chicken cross the road?"
Answer:
Because the chicken wanted to.
It's the fundamental reason why we do anything because it's the best of all given possibilities or choices at the time. We always taken the consequence we feel will merit the greatest reward in the end for some reason or another. Now.. that reward can be tangible or not.. Very basic, fundamental root of our every day actions. Scary, isn't it?

Answer:

It's the fundamental reason why we do anything because it's the best of all given possibilities or choices at the time. We always taken the consequence we feel will merit the greatest reward in the end for some reason or another. Now.. that reward can be tangible or not.. Very basic, fundamental root of our every day actions. Scary, isn't it? The question does not state that the chicken WILLINGLY crossed the road. Therefore there are a veriaty of incidental occurences that could physically force the Chicken across the road despite him having decided to stay on the side he was already on. Such as if the chicken did not want to cross th road because the meat market was on the otherside, but was then kidnapped by aliens and leashed, experimented on and then dropped back down where a farmer found him and dragged him, kciking and screaming across the road despite the chicken's every attempt to resist the farmer. The answer fits the question and cannot be reduced to the fundemnetal principle that the chicken wanted to. Further more there are more plausible answers that can fit the general question that, in order to give a finite answer, must specify more that the Chicken willingly crossed the road.

Darz rolleyes I may as well add my two cents just to eliminate another wrong answer. Speed. Speed is another word for fast, but it has the same meaning. *I made the same mistake to, when I first read this...it was the last line that gave it away for me* but if you find the alternate meaning and read through, it makes sense....
