Irene felt the girl's love for Niko. Also Bana's stubborness. (( blaugh )) "I'm his friend, Irene. And by the sound of your mood and afection for him, you must be a relative." Irene shrugged. "Or his girlfriend, kind of hard to tell." Irene looked at her very seriously. "And as his friend, I'm absolutely sure that I want to know the origin of his pain." Irene narrowed her eyes to Niko. "His sad, mysterious pain." Irene looked back up to her. This time, with a sorrowful look in her eyes that might look familiar to her. "Please, I need to know... I'm worried about him." Irene then looked over at Bana and gave a small laugh. "Bana, he might not be able to breathe with you on him like that. You want to do something for me real quick?" Irene wasn't sure Baa would buy it, but if Bana got upset over Niko Irene would feel terrible. ((OMG, we're online at the same time! eek Sorry about you being grounded.))

As Irene talked to Bana, the woman looked around the area. Good, there was no drops of blood anywhere. The only blood had been on Nikos arm, and she had already fixed it. Sighing softly, she shifted into a better sitting position, bright emerald eyes regarding Irene.
Finally, she spoke. "I suppose it can't hurt to tell you... I'd like to say that you seem trustworthy enough, but I've seen people like you before who would kill Niko after learning this. So I'll just say this much; If you ever try to cause my brother any harm, you better pray that we never cross paths." Her voice was frosty as she said this; she obviously was very protective of Niko.
She fell silent for a moment, then looked up again. "Have you ever heard of the Twlight Mercenary, Shadow. A ruthless killer, doesn't care who he kills as long as he kills someone, with a heart of stone. Nearly all of the slayers in this continent know of him. His head is worth millions." She gave a cold smile. "He's Niko. Or more actually, like you said before, he's inside Niko." She looked up at the sky.
"...I suppose it goes without saying the Niko isn't a full human. He's a half-demon, a half-featherfolk actually. A human mother and featherfolk father. Featherfolk is known to be the race in this world closest to the angels, that's why the majority of them have completely white appearances." She reached over, a gently fingertip touching Niko's snow-white hair.
"We came from a small human village, near the south. Niko's father was never there, so he was raised by his... our mother. I'm not sure how things work there you come from, but where we lived, half-breeds are treated like dirt. The adults all ignored Niko from the moment he was born. The children took advantage of his demon-like abilities, and told him that as long as he did what they wanted, he would be their friend. But if something happened to Niko, lets say he twisted his ankle while running? They wouldn't even care. It's no wonder Niko's got a cursed inferiority complex now."
She stopped for a moment, then continued. "All this business with Shadow came in when Niko was ten. His so-called friends had heard of a cave near our village, where we had all been restricted from going. They ignored the rules and went inside it anyways. They made Niko use his white magic to light the cave.
"The cave back was filled with treasures; money, armor, weapons, and jewelry. The children started picking out some of the coins and gems, joking about how they would bring them back to the village and be heroes. It was Niko who realized that something wasn't right. It turns out it was a bandits hide-hole, and he tried to warn the others. They didn't take him seriously. Finally one of the girls agreed with him, and they ran for the entrance. Of course, the bandits had arrived by then, and trapped them inside.
"Niko tried holding them back with his demon magic, but he wasn't that strong back then. He was easily knocked away, and one of the girls were slain. When Niko was telling me this later, he said that he thought he had blacked out. Everything went dark, anyways. Then he said he saw someone in front of him; a strange man with black wings and red eyes. He said that the man offered to help get rid of the bandits, in exchange for Niko's body.
"Niko didn't think himself that important, and was willing to die for his friends, even if they betrayed his trust over and over. He agreed, then he really did black out.
"When he regained concience, it was near nighttime. The scene was horrible; everyone was dead, their bodies torn apart. Not only the bandits, but Niko's 'friends' as well. Then Niko realized that his hands were stained by their blood, and the sword that had done most of the killing was lying right beside him.
"After a few moments, he realized that had happened. The man that had appeared hadn't meant sacrificing Niko's life. He had meant possessing him and using Niko's hands to kill the bandits. And then Niko's friends died as well.
"Niko was terrified, because he didn't know if the spirit was still inside of him or gone. So he left the village after telling me what happened. His fears were comfirmed shortly after. He came upon a group of demons fighting a few miles away from the village. Somehow, the smell of fresh blood caused the spirit to awaken again, and slaughter the demons.
"Niko can't remember anything that happens while he's possessed. And he has no control over what the spirit does. Rumors began to spread, and slayers began hunting him down. He was named Shadow, because while the spirit is controling him he has black wings, black hair and clothing, and demonic red eyes. He was constantly wandering, looking for a place where he could live without fear of harming anyone.
"Shadow's been taking its toll on him as well as the rest of the world. It's been eight years since he left our village, and I've seen him as often as I can manage. Since he left, not once have I ever seen him laugh. He hardly even smiles anymore; any smile he does give is always sad, or forced because he doesn't want me to worry." Her eyes darkened slightly. "I was worried about him. Anyone who found out about Shadow either ran from him... Or tried to kill him. Anyone who is told, even if they swear that they'd never dream of killing him, end up betraying him sooner or later."
She looked up at Irene. "Do you want an example of how badly all this has affected him? I actually had to place an anti-suicide spell on him to make sure that he wouldn't try and kill himself." She sighed softly. "His father and I are both trying to find a way to get rid of Shadow, but we aren't coming up with much. I placed a charm on the pendant I gave him years ago, so that I would always be able to find him if something happened. I was lucky this time that he wasn't too far off. If I hadn't shown up to control Shadow, those bandits and anyone else within a miles range would have ended up dead."

Irene felt sympathetic, and a lot of the pain and memories that was talked about impacted her heart. Irene had to close her eyes again, it was getting harder to not have any of her power come out. She put one hand behind her and focused the uncontrollable magic behind her in small, safe bursts to get rid of some of the pain and stress. Water and fire burst through her fingertips. At a few points there were bursts of electricity as well. All the while listening to the woman. Irene worried about Niko, and wished she could help. She knew how it was to be outcasted, but never had anything went out of control to the point of killing. She hurt people near death, but never did it actually go to death. She did have a small thought to just leave, but Niko... There was something about him that made her feel she should be there with him. When the woman finished, Irene stopped the bursts and talked a bit slowly. Mostly because she was focused on not actually killing anyone. Her power was much stronger no, one wrong blow could mean death. "So, you're his sister. I'm glad that he has someone in his life that will take care for him. And don't worry, I have no feeling of hurting Niko in the least. And of this other soul, Shadow? I've heard of him. There have been a few instances that I heard of him 'striking again.'" Irene had a slight expression of pain. "If anything, I want to help Niko. I really do." For once, it wasn't even just because she feels their pain. It was because after being alone for so long she grew fond of Niko and Bana and would definetely consider them friends. If not the only people has ever connected to in this manner. "You don't mind tending to Niko while I get my necklace do you? I really need it at this time. And please don't go. Because like I said, Niko is my friend. I don't want him running away from us and endangering himself and others." Irene smiled sincerely, and stood up.
