Jess gave him a small smile and kissed him for a few seconds. As she pulled away, she blinked, a curious, almost inquisitive expression on her face. "Well that was odd..."

"What? What was odd?" asked Peter, rather bewildered. He hadn't seen this particular expression on Jess's face more than once or twice in the seemingly hundreds of times they'd been together.

"I don't know...didn't you feel it?" Jess waited a few more seconds and frowned. "It was strange, like a fluttering type pressur eon my lower-there it is again." She took Peter's left hand and moved it inward and slightly down. "There, right there can you feel it? It's like a small swimming type movement."

Peter blinked as he felt it, very slightly. A slow, positively radiant smile spread across his face. "Jess...she's kicking!" he said, in an excited whisper. "Jess, our baby is kicking."

"Woah..." The thought hadn't really crossed her mind, but it made sense. She was what, 18 weeks pregnant? The book that she had been pretty much forced to read thanks to Madam Pomfrey did say that movement began by the 16th week. "Oh, Merlin. Peter, this is, this is-Merlin..." She swalloed hard, feeling very much unlike her confident self. Now that she felt it moving, there was no way she could deny that it was there, actually growing and moving and..."Unbelievable..."

"Isn't it, though?" answered Peter gleefully, his whisper now an excited shout. "It's moving--that means it's probably got arms and legs--" And without bothering to finish his semi-thought, he kissed Jess excitedly.

Jess fell back, keeping herself somewhat propped up on her left elbow while her right hand moved to the back of his neck. She kissed him back, feeling all that anxiety wash away. Whatever these hormones were doing to her, she didn't hate it at the moment. She finally pulled back from him with a smile. "I have a book. Madam Pomfrey gave it to me, it talks all about babies and pregnancy and stuff. I could let you read it if you want to."

Peter shrugged dismissively. "It's better than Potions, I suppose." He grinned. Something was different about Jess. He wasn't exactly sure what, but it was good. "Do you want me to read it?"

Jess nodded. "It's full of information that you might want to know about. There's a whole section on what fathers can do because a lot of times they feel left out because it's the mum carrying the baby for nine months."

"Oh." Peter wasn't particularly keen on reading it, but Jess seemed so earnest and eager, he nodded and smiled. "I'm not exactly feeling that now, but I think it would be a good idea to read it."

Jess gave him a kiss and smiled. "I still have to finish it first, but you can have it after." She caught a glimpse of Madam pomfrey in her office and frowned. "We should probably get the rest of those forms filled out now. Just to get them over with."

"Right. Yeah." Peter sat up a little straighter. "Listen...I was thinking that perhaps we should get your parents' signatures. So that we can still stay with my parents, I mean, until we get things completely sorted out."

Jess obviously did not want to think about getting them. "They won't sign, I know them. The only way I could get those bleeding parents of mine to put down their signature is if we physically forced them to. If we owl the forms to them, they will just return unsigned with a note expressing how I'm dead to them or something of the sort."
