Someone neutral would most likely be the best fit. You obviously don't need to be an utter cutthroat, it's not attracting pirates or thieves in particular as much as it's attracting people who are willing to potentially put their lives into jeopardy for great deals of money and adventure.

Though I'm sure the former would gladly jump aboard, haha.

You're always more than welcome to create a new character, of course, and flesh them out as we go along.
