Forrest snarled as his Geodude took the hit. He hadn't seen a Larvitar coming, and it had really laid into Rocky early on. That was gonna cost him.
"Rocky! Use Rock Polish, and then tackle him!" Forrest knew the speed boost Rocky would get from Rock Polish would come in handy. The Geodude rushed forward and bashed into the Larvitar, knocking it back. "Defense Curl, before it recovers!" He hoped the extra burst of speed would give him enough time to use the Defense Curl.

"Dino, get up, buddy!" Grant called. The Larvitar stood up and shook its head, trying to recover itself. "Ready to go?! Alright, Screech and then Bite again!" Performing the two moves almost simultaneously, Dino took down the Geodude. "Yes! Great job, Dino!" Grant called, beaming at his tiny dinosaur-like friend. "Great job, Forrest! What do you have next for me?"

"Grrr.... Come on back Rocky, you did great!" Forrest clipped the pokeball back onto his belt after it closed and shrunk. That was fine, he still had a few tricks up his sleeve. His next Pokemon he had caught in a cave when he was young, just like Rocky, but there was something special about it. It wasn't a rock type.
"Go get 'em, Zuzu!" He smiled brightly at the Zubat as it flew around well outside of the Larvitar's range. "Use Supersonic, and when it's confused, Leech Life!" Forrest smiled as his choice of moves landed. The Larvitar immediately hurt itself, and then took a Leech Life. On it's second attempt to snap out of it, the Larvitar hit itself again and hit the ground. It was done. "Great job, Zuzu! Keep it up!"

"Not bad," Grant said, returning Dino to his Pokeball and putting him away. He pulled out another ball. "But you made a big mistake bringing out a Flying type. I raised this one a bit more than the others, because I didn't think I'd get the chance to use him here. So, spotlight, Sparky!" He threw the ball, and his Joltik came out, tiny and barely visible on the field. "Sparky! Show him the move you just learned! Electoweb!" Joltik opened its tiny pincers and shot out a web covered in electricity at the Zubat. It hit its target and the Zubat fell to the ground, knocked out by the strong electric attack. "Yes! Great job, Sparky!" Grant cried, jumping into the air, his fist raised in victory.

Forrest scowled a bit as he returned his Zubat to it's Pokeball, but couldn't hide but smile about the prospect of his opponent's reaction to his next Pokemon. During his brother's travels, he had made friends with some researchers on Cinnabar Island. Those researchers had been making great strides in their research, and the fruits of their labor had needed testing. They had sent the first experiment to the Pewter City gym expecting Brock to put it to the test, but Brock was no longer the leader, so Forrest had accepted responsibility.
This was his secret weapon. There was absolutely no way Grant could have seen this coming, and it was going to be great when he saw it. "Alright, time for my secret weapon! Go Omanyte! Hit the Joltik hard with Bite followed by Constrict, and keep biting it!!"
The Joltik never saw it coming. It went down pretty hard.

Grant clicked his tongue. "Sparky, good job, return." The red light absorbed the small bug into its Pokeball. Grant was in awe. An Omanyte? he thought. I thought those things were extinct! How does this kid have one?! He shook his head, clearing it. No, don't think about that. Take it down! He grabbed his final Pokemon's ball and threw it, shouting, "Go, Duran!!!" Riolu landed on the rocky field in a bowing position. It turns out that Duran, after maturing a bit, thought of Grant as his master, and so he came out bowing always. Master, I await your command, he spoke, standing up. Genesis's eyes widened a bit at the site of the Omanyte, but her reaction wasn't anything next to Sorrel's. The little girl was practically jumping off of the railing with her sketchpad out, drawing the ancient Rock/Water type vigorously. Genesis made a mental note to find a weakness for it. Sorrel couldn't believe what her eyes were showing her. Just below her on the first official gym match she'd ever seen was an Omanyte, a Pokemon from ancient times. She pulled out her sketchpad and leaned over the railing as far as she could without falling off and traced the tiny Pokemon. After sketching it, she pulled out Dexter and aimed it at it. "Omanyte, the Spiral Pokémon," Dexter defined. "Believed to have lived over 2 billion years ago. Recent research indicates that it was able to control its buoyancy by storing and releasing air in its shell."Sorrel put Dexter away and sighed. "I can't believe it. An ancient Pokemon, restored to life and living and breathing right in front of me. Oh, wait until Professor Oak hears about this!"

Forrest grinned at the reactions throughout the room. His Omanyte hadn't been named yet. This was the first battle he had ever used it in, and he was sure that it wouldn't be long now before word got out about it. It was a good Pokemon, though, and he hoped to use it to the best of it's abilities.
Oblivious to the Riolu's conversation with Grant, Forrest immediately started the battle, not realizing he was interrupting. "Alright, Omanyte! Are you ready? Go get 'em! Hit the Riolu with a watergun and then withdraw into your shell! With Duran not expecting it, the watergun landed solidly, and the Omanyte pulled back into it's shell, awaiting the Riolu's return fire.

Jerk! We were talking! Duran cried. "Duran! Use Force Palm!" called Grant. Riolu's eyes turned blue and he pushed a paw at Omanyte, and an invisible force hit the Pokemon, and even its shell didn't do much to stop the damage it did. Omanyte flew back and landed at Forrest's feet. "Whether in a shell or not, Rock's are still weak against Fighting types!" Grant explained. "Now, Duran, just in case, use Endure!" Riolu hugged itself and glowed a dull blue.

Forrest growled at the new development. "Come on, Omanyte! Get back in there!" The Omanyte picked itself back up, eager to please. "Rush at it while firing a water gun, then bite it!"
The Riolu took a hit from the water gun, but Omanyte missed it's attempt to bite, leaving it in a nasty position to take a big hit.

Grant smirked, then pointed at Omanyte. "Duran, finish it with Force Palm!" Riolu eyes glowed blue again and he pushed the invisible wind at Omanyte again. With a final cry, Omanyte fell over, knocked over."Omanyte is unable to battle," Forrest's father called, raising his hand at Grant. "The winner is Grant from Olivine City!""Duran, we did it!!!!" Grant called, running forward and hugging the small Pokemon. Master, control yourself! Duran cried, but he, too, had a huge smile on his face. Grant looked up at his friends and grinned. Then he looked right at Argyle. "I did it. I won!!!" he called up to them. Genesis leaned on the railing. "I can't believe it," she said. "He actually won. Talk about your beginner's luck!" Sorrel cheered in hurrah for Grant. She was happy he won. She and Grant didn't know each other too well, but they'd connected in the forest while training, so she was happy. And it had been her, after all, who gave him the idea to raise his Joltik a bit more, since neither of them had thought that he'd be using him in this battle. "Congrats, Grant!" she called, waving down to him.

Grant returned Duran, then accepted Forrest's handshake. "Thanks," he said, graciously taking the small grey badge. "It was a tough battle. I hope someday we can have a rematch." And with that, the six left the gym and went to the Pokemon Center for the night. That Evening "Well, this may be a problem," Grant said as they sat in the lobby of the Pokemon Center that night. "Where is Wade gonna sleep? I doubt he had his own room, and it looks like all except for our room is taken again." Genesis yawned, tired after a long day of training, the gym match, and the group hanging out afterwards. They had gone to a burger place for lunch, Vic not eating except for the occasional snag of fries from someone's meal, then went to the museum in town. Sorrel and Wade were fascinated in the fossils, Vic seemed apathetic to the place, and Argyle and Grant kept talking about the match. She was a bit jealous of Grant's relationship with Argyle, and she planned to have him all to herself tomorrow while they were training. Even if it meant her waking him up earlier than the others and leaving ahead of everyone. "Well, he'll have to sleep with one of you men," she said, looking at them. "It's not right for a guy to sleep with a girl, unless they're together." Sorrel agreed. She may like Wade a lot, especially after getting to know him at lunch and the museum, but she didn't want him to sleep in the same bed as her. "I agree. But Mr. Victor can't do it, because Abbadon sleeps on his bed," she explained. "I think he should sleep with Grant." That way Wade isn't too close to me, she thought.

Victor slapped the Abaddon on the back heartily. "Great job, bud! You're the best space taker I've ever met." He was only half joking. Had the Absol not been there, he still probably would have had a problem with this keep sleeping in his bed. He already wasn't a huge fan of him, and he had a problem with people being in his bed without his blessing. Currently, the only ones who had ever received that blessing were his Pokemon and one girl in Petalburg City whom he had never actually done anything with thanks to an unfortunate turn of events that led to him skipping town that day. In retrospect, he was quite thankful of the turn of events. He had only known her for two days, and his common sense had been waging a war against his hormones at the time.
Suffice it to say, she wasn't as clean as his teenage mind wanted him to believe. But that was a story to keep to himself. He instead turned his attention to the current topic of discussion- the freaking dinosaur that Forrest had thrown onto the field.
"Where did he even get that thing?" To be honest, Wade wasn't too thrilled with the arrangement. He knew the beds weren't big, which meant that they would have to squeeze together, and the wouldn't be comfortable for him. But he couldn't complain. They were nice enough to offer him a place to sleep.
He supposed he could understand the two girls unwillingness to share their beds, but he was still the tiniest bit disappointed.
"I know, right? That was crazy!" Argyle glanced slyly at Grant. Jokes would abound at this development whenever they were alone again. He was already thinking up snarky barbs. It would start with cradle robber. Yes, he liked Cradle Robber.
"Awww, that's cute. Grant's giving up half his bed for a kid." he let a smugly sweet smile touch his lips and leered at Grant.

"Shut it," Grant joked, playfully shoving Argyle on the arm. "But yeah, I was so shocked when he sent it out. And it was strong. I mean, it was obvious that that had been it's first trainer battle, but still. Good luck tomorrow, Genesis," he added, throwing a worried glance her way. She was a good trainer, Grant couldn't deny that, but she had a Heracross, a Farfetch'd, and a Torkoal, and unless her Heracross knew some fighting moves, this was going to be a hard fight for her. Genesis tried to be angry at Grant's comment, but she knew he was right: Forrest's Pokemon were all types that she had almost no advantage over. It was definitely going to be a tough battle. She ignored most of the conversation about the Omanyte. "Oh my gosh!" Sorrel said, slamming her hands down on the table. "I can't believe a little kid like him had an ancient Pokemon, and Professor Oak hasn't even seen one!" She was so angry, but at the same time, she was proud of herself for having seen one before the Professor. So, angry yet smiling, Sorrel sat down and waited for them to finish their conversation.

Matt Rockefeller was laying down right by the entrance of Mt. Moon. His pokemon, Totodile, Abra, and Eevee, were lying right by him. "Eve, Mom said that I could evolve you into anything that I wanted. Looking into this night sky, I’ve decided, Eve, you’re going to be an Umbreon," Matt said and Eevee yipped in excitement. Abra and Totodile started in. “Yes, yes. Croc and ‘Kazam, you’re coming with us," he said laughing.
Matt is 16 and this is first year without his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Rockefeller were well known for their previous profession, and Matt fell into their shadow. That's why Matt was glad that he was given a starter by Professor Elm. He didn't get to pick Cyndaquil, so he picked the next best thing; Totodile. His parents were so excited that he was going to be a Pokemon trainer that they gave him money to spend at the Goldenrod Game Corner. After twenty-three hours, fifty-nine minutes, and twenty-nine seconds, Matt came out with an Abra. He would stay longer, but his bad reputation caught up with him. He decided Kanto was a better start.
"Hey there sonny. You going to go in?" The old man said standing by the entrance of Mt. Moon. "Oh yeah, I was waiting for night. My Eevee is going to be an Umbreon," Matt said with a smile and Eevee was still jumping up and down in joy and Abra and Totodile joined in. "That looks like a good set of Pokemon there. Hey, have this. It's weighing me down," The old man said and handed Matt a Pokemon egg. "Now be careful, this egg may pack a punch, or was it a kick? I can't remember, but it sure makes my head spin," The Old Man said with a smile. Matt looked at the egg then back at the old man. The old man was already heading into the entrance of the Mount Moon. "Ummmm.... Ok... You guys want to go back into town before we go onto our journey?" and everyone danced around Matt in agreement.
