"Mm." Jack was focused on counting his sets, eternally glad that he no longer had to worry about his glasses slipping off. Thank you, contacts. "I'll let you show off after we're sure you're fixed up. Just keep track of how many you can do until it hurts."

He was used to seeing her actively entranced, but it seemed just a little funny to him this time--if only because the song in question was sillier than his usual selection of angst-riddled, indie-infested rock tastes. Still, in the same way Jack could unironically play his heart out, so too did Chel seem able to unironically listen and enjoy it. Sometimes her "anything goes" attitude bothered him, but there were moments like these that made him appreciate it.

Comfortable, even. The thought gave him pause.

Humming shortly, he silenced Barbara's strings. "Among other things," Jack replied, considering Chel before leaning in for a short, sweet kiss. (Chafing at the fact that it was predictable but preferring it over considering comfortable's implications. They both had their tendencies for actions louder than words anyway.) "You want to stay longer or head back?"

Chel's eyes blinked when the hand guided her lips up to his, but closed again when she felt the familiarity. She wrapped an arm under his and around his side. "I could go for a song or two more. Gotta milk y'fer what yer worth."

She let Jack play his ambient picking before asking, "Y'think I could borrow her for a while?"

Chel got through not three, not four, but five sets before she had to admit defeat in regards to her shoulder. It said something about Chel's character that she had started to feel the pain in the fourth set, but pushed through until the fifth when her arm was wobbling and couldn't keep her up.

She fell to the mat in a tired slump; not necessarily hard or in a worrying way, but in the way that followed a hard work out. "Uncle," she groused, rubbing her shoulder with her free hand.

Around the end of the third set was where Jack started feeling the uncomfortable stiffness in his shoulders start to ail him, though like Chel he pushed to a third of the way through the fourth before stopping. His posture was so stiff, especially in the area where his shoulders and neck met; it had taken time to get to where he was now.

Rolling his shoulders back with a small face, he let her rest and took a gulp of water. "Does it hurt much?" he prompted. "Anything feel out of place?"

"That is definitely what she said," he snickered.

Chel's question landed somewhere in the middle of a nothing-song, a loosely connected series of notes that could have been the embellishment in a slow tempo jazz rather than its own song. It was therefore easy to play and talk at the same time. "If you ask nicely," Jack told her, at once hesitant about lending Barbara out and pleased to see she wanted to continue. "Ian and I got Finn his own guitar for his birthday too, if you want to bug him."

Chel's face lit up to something with a tiny twist of her mouth. She ran a hand along the body of Barbara while he played, equal parts mischievous and serious that left her with an unreadable expression.

"Y'really think Finn's gonna let me take his s**t?" she questioned. "Couldn't wrangle a ********' penny off that guy."

She chuckled, which was a nice feeling with Jack's torso to bump into; a shallow reminder that he was there. "'Sides I don't want it- her for a long time." Nothing long term or permanent; hardly anything was with Chel. She operated on whims and habits. More for Jack she murmured, "And you'll need to tell me how nicely to ask."

"My shoulder hurts like hell, but I ain't gonna dislocate it doin' some pushups goddamn." She saw Jack rolling his own shoulders and wondered why he didn't just do normal pushups alongside her rather than overwork himself. Maybe he was going for some sort of solidarity thing?

She raised an eyebrow at it but said nothing. She instead took to complaining. "How the ******** this supposed to help?"

"I'm sure if you told him you wanted to woo me, he'd let you borrow something; bond over the whole saccharine serenading your partner thing. Well, after he's done vomiting about the sugary feelings. Or you could induce the vomiting through a series of positive comments thrown his way until he's incapacitated, at which point you steal-slash-borrow the guitar," Jack suggested with a casual shrug. Either or.

"As for how nicely I mean," he smirked, "I think you were on the right track when you were talking about milking me."

"There's four muscles and tendons associated with the rotator cuff," he explained. "This is to help align the joint if it slides out of place and strengthen your shoulder in general. Push ups were just the warm up."

Jack shrugged off the therabands and held one out to her. "The rest are range of motion exercises. We'll use these to work out each group of muscles; they're better than using weights because they don't rely on gravity to create resistance. After we're done," he went on, "we'll ice your shoulder. If we keep this schedule, you should be fine in about three weeks or so." Typically healing this injury, depending on the severity, could be up to seven weeks, but Jack took into account their unnaturally fast healing.

Chel looked at Jack like he was speaking German for most of his shpeal, since all that got through was something about working out some muscles. Good enough explanation for a gym rat.

However when he said three weeks she protectively shielded her arm from him and gave him an uncharacteristically cold look.

"Three weeks?" she hissed, "Jack I can't be out that long. It don't work that way here." For a hunter to take a three week break was utter suicide even if it was for injury.

"Augh Jack gross," she said, losing her flirtatious demeanor and instead shoving his side and disrupting his playing. "I'm not milkin' anythin' you ********' sicko."

She stuck her tongue out to convey defiance, but she hardly seemed angered or unshakable. "Never said anythin' 'bout serenadin' you anyways."

Chel was met with a level look; he knew she wouldn't be happy with the projected timeline. "You're still thinking like a Sun hunter," he said. "As of right now, however, you're the equivalent of a Death trainee. This is the perfect time to be fixing your shoulder, Chel, because what your duties are won't be nearly as strenuous. At best you'll be doing forays in golems or helping file paperwork until you get a better sense of the division's nuances. Three weeks isn't that long--hell, maybe your injury isn't severe enough to go that long."

He gave the theraband a little shake at her.

"Either way, you're going to have to have patience."

He bent like a tree in the wind and swayed back up with a grin. "S'that right? s**t, my mistake. It's for when you decide to serenade your next Twitter b***h," Jack corrected with a little nod to himself.

"M'not good at that" Chel grumbled, looking at the theraband like it was a venemous snake.

Had it been anyone beyond maybe Chris Chel would have shirked it off and found another place to workout in piece. But Jack had always held the reins and she found that she had a fickle sense of trust in him.

She swiped the theraband from his hand and said, "Fine. But yer takin' my shifts whenever I can't do s**t." Sputtering threats did make her feel a little better. "Gonna get one of those shitty little bells and ring it in bed- make you come feed me my food and everythin'."
