"Well that's one good thing that came out of that day, I suppose. Being there wasn't... wasn't really a fun experience." She tore at the grass, thinking of the searing pain and the nightmares that had followed. "I'm glad he found something good to take out of it, too. Did he mention another buck? He never spoke. I never found out his name, but I hope he came away well."

The stones Fury had fixated on previously were easily passed by now, as she worked around them to tear away more of the annoying grass. Irritation began swelling again, if only because of how long this was taking, but she only allowed that to motivate her further.

His eyes briefly grew clouded with some concern, seeing her somber reflection. having not been there, his memory did tend to gloss over the less pleasant aspects of these developments. Even now, however, he couldn't hold onto such sorrows in the wash of excitement in his chest.
"Ah, yes. He did mention. We haven't been back in touch with him, however... I, too, hope he's doing well."132/250

"He seemed tough enough, I suppose. This... this might sound crazy, but I know a lot of us felt... drawn. To the original obelisk. And drawn here. And I don't think anybody would have come without a reason of some kind and the strength to see it through, whether that's inner strength or just sheer muscle or both." She tore at the grass some more, knowing how odd she sounded. She was interrupted by the shrill of insect wings. Her wasp buzzed nearby, having abandoned her post over the original uncovered stone. She swooped uncomfortably close to the stag, intent on the flowers adorning his neck. "Rhetorical Question!" Half Truth snapped. "You lay off, those flowers aren't for you!" Her eyebrows furrowed until the wasp stopped circling Wildflower Breeze and looped back to her, buzzing petulantly. "Sorry about that," she said with a small shrug. "She can be a bit of a pest sometimes. But at least she's not as bad as my kid's caveworm. That thing is a downright nuisance."

If she was growing tired, Fury would not show it, refusing to stop as she tore through the grass, albeit a bit slower. No need to look at how much was still left; she only needed to look at what she was working at.

125/250 units of grass remain. The obelisk's glow now resembles the light of a half-moon.

Half Truth shuddered involuntarily as the obelisk glowed more brightly. Maybe they should stop now- but as she thought that, she knew they couldn't. She tore at the grass, passing a blade up to her wasp, who had alighted on her back. The insect inspected it in her cold, unknowable insect way. Another stone was uncovered.

At least no one could say what they were doing was useless. Fury paused for only a moment to confirm that, yes, the obelisk had gotten brighter since they began, then continued on pulling more grass up.

Half Truth dug at the base of a clump of grass, looking with a wary eye at the glowing obelisk. She scraped her hoof across the top of another of those smaller stones. She wondered how they got there- while the obelisk obviously wasn't the work of kin, the smaller stones could be.

Now imagine they had to dig up the smaller stones next? Or, MotherFather forbid, the larger ones -- but Fury didn't jump into that just yet. She only concentrated on the grass, looking still for results.

Breeze stiffened as he was borne down on and encircled in a web of buzzing wasp wings, reminded uncomfortably of an incident in the early days of his ascension when he'd (foolishly) sought to attend to his duties on his own schedule. When the great insect was addressed by, and then alighted on Half Truth's back, he relaxed a little. It was obviously well-trained.
Then, she made some mention about - "Ah, cave worms? I don't think I've encountered one of those yet, though I have heard about them - large scavengers. Your child keeps one such as a pet? Might I inquire to know more about both them and their companion?"
As he pawed at the ground again, he added, "Your wasp friend may, ah, help herself to some of my mint flowers, if she wishes. They will grow back," he concluded, somewhat cryptically, as he shook out the leafy garland on his shoulders. Was it a living plant?

It had all kind of taken her by surprise, the overwhelming reaction to the obelisk. Roses in Bloom remembered the nightmares- the visions of plague and rot which had haunted her mind after coming into contact with the thing. It was hard, now, to shake away the fear that clung to her being. It took several attempts by Half Truth and the kind stranger for Rose to come back to herself, shaking away the damnable thoughts. She flushed in embarrassment, trotting over to her ladylove.
"I- I'm so sorry!" She called, ears drooped in shame. "I got lost in my own mind again, so endless apologies for that. It's- it's lovely to meet you. I am Roses in Bloom,"
She bowed politely to the stranger, then noticing they were ripping up the grass, set about to the task herself. Perhaps she was not as strong as her love, but... she was dedicated, for certain. That, and she had done so little the last time! The older doe made short work of her patch of grass..90/250

They'd clearly made a lot of progress. It almost seemed like there was an end in sight, even, thanks to the kin working and joining in. Nonetheless, Fury certainly wasn't one to use this as an excuse to slack. She only quickened her pace again after her short pseudo-break.

As Breeze shook out his garland he took the opportunity to look around. They'd been making fast work indeed, despite any temporary idling.

"Cave worms are pretty much the worst, but I promised my son he could have a pet, and he had his heart set on one- and he'd been so responsible and done so much work to find out how to take care of them, I didn't want it to seem like I was backing out of my promise. Putting up with that monster is worth it to keep my son's trust. Of course, now that he's older, I see a lot less of it!" She chuckled ruefully, remembering the initial stench of the thing and how she thought she'd never get that smell to go away. "He even named the thing "I Love You." And you should see it. It looks downright toxic. All drippy bright colors that just scream "Poison! Don't eat me!" And more legs than any creature's got a right to have, and mandibles that are wickedly sharp- but when it's with him, it never bites or snaps. He feeds it little bits of... whatever, and it curls up near him at night. It's tame as any other big insect. Changes- that's my son- he loves the thing. He's a good kid. Loads of compassion for animals. All animals, even the giant smelly scavengers." She dug at the grass, shaking the wasp off her back. "Listen, Question," she said, no nonsense in her voice. "That nice fella said you could have a couple of flowers, so if you want to pick at them, do so and don't bother him." She looked back to the stag with gratitude. "Thank you kindly- truth be told, I've been a little bit worried about finding food out here for her. And water- these grasses aren't exactly the most thirst-quenching thing I've ever eaten. It's kinda funny. There's so much water in the swamp, we take it for granted... And this isn't even the desert. I can't imagine how the first Acha felt when they wandered into the wetlands." She moved near Rose to pull more grass and gave her a gentle nuzzle. They'd both had the bad dreams.
