White Miaka was rather annoying at times, I have to go with FY, its the original, and heck we all know how the main character in FY:GK is going to die!!

animegal257 Fushigi Yugi is better nothing can beat the original 3nodding Suzaku all the way!!!!! Of course FY is the first part Watase-san drew but if you think about it you could say that FYGK is the original. Takiko was the first girl who opened the book and maybe Miaka would never had open it if Takiko hasn't. I think it is cool that Takiko is the first. Miaka is just the third, isn't she? And I like Takikos character more than Miakas. I really liked Miaka when I read FY but after a time she became boring (in my opinion). Takiko is much stronger and can defend herself. And I think Rimudo is so much better than Tamahome. In my opinion the story and the style of FYGK is better, too. But of course I understand that the style is just better because the story came later than FY. So all in all I thing FYGK is the best!!! 4laugh heart Ah, and I don't want to forget: Of course you could say we know how Takiko will die but maybe she will not. I thought about some possibilitys how the story could end and I don't think that she really has to die that way. So we have to wait and see.

The thing that gets me is in FY they say how she dies, even show it if I remember correctly, but I will say this.. Even if we do know how she dies, it will be the journy that got her there that will interest me. I love FY:GK, but at the same time FY was my first, so perhaps i have a bias to it o_O;;

I love FY:GK, but at the same time FY was my first, so perhaps i have a bias to it o_O;; But if you've kept up on your information and the Watase chats in the side bars of the manga you'd know that she's already started to make changes. Watase herself regrets laying out Genbu's story like she did in the SuSei arc and already apologized for any continuity changes she would make, but since writing FY she has matured and feels that she wants the story to go into a different light. As I said in the Genbu Kaiden thread, I don't expect the ending to be all happy and joyous, I expect there to be loss and struggle. I mean, Tatara and Suzuno's relationship and their deaths in the anime was probably one of the most touching moments in the entire SuSei story in my opinion. They may not have gotten to live together or spend their lives together, but the important thing was that their souls were connected and that they loved each other so much that their love transcended all boundaries. Miaka and Tamahome's relationship was so annoying after a while how everything was a test and they STILL ended up together in the end. That, in my opinion isn't realistic or interesting, which is probably why I lost my love for the original FY as I got older. It is a wonderful series, but I don't think it will hold a candle to FYGK when the series is complete. FY was one of my first too, but that doesn't make it the better of the two by default in my opinion. Its nice to see that Watase has matured and you can clearly see that in Genbu Kaiden.

who says a person has to have a favorite of the two? I certainly don't. I love Fushigi Yugi for what it is and I love Genbu Kaiden for what it is...
Try looking at it from more of an artist/writer's view.
The fact that Miaka was childish, if not initially intended became, in my eyes, half the story. A big part of her journey was going from the little girl to someone that her warriors could count on.
And consider the timeline too. Takiko is from another generation then Miaka, one that was generally more mature at the younger ages. Their family situations were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Besides, what fun would it be if all of her heroine's were strong, independent, and didn't seem to really need anyone? What fun would it be if her warriors were all the same? They can't all be strong and independent and they can't all be aloof and cool. Cause real people aren't all like that either.
I don't compare them to each other, because they're DIFFERENT. They aren't the same story! I take them on their own merits.

GoldInk I just want to know which you guys like better because personally I like Genbu Kaiden much better. The heroine is more responsible and is independent unlike Miaka. Me too!

I like Fushigi Yuugi the best!!...although Genbu Kaiden is great!... I have to finish reading all the manga novels of Genbu Kaiden first before i pick...although i say that FY is the best thing in the world it's just because i see miaka in me... xd kinda lame but its true...i do have some type of connection with the main character redface

haha! I have a story about that! So, my friend, Meghan, and I were at lunch arguing who had better Seishi and I was arguing for Takiko because their more diverse and to me they have more interesting personalities. She was arguing for Miaka because they're cuter and she goes "She has Tasuki! Who else can fry someone with a fan without burning them? AND she has a guy who wants to be a girl!" So I look at her, smirk and go "Oh yeah? Well Takiko's got a guy who IS a girl!" She was quiet after that XD

I actually think I do like Genbu Kaiden better, too. You're right, the heroine is more grown up and mature, plus, I don't know, I just think it's a fun concept that one of the guys can turn into a girl at will.. it worked better than Ranma 1/2 I thought.. GoldInk I just want to know which you guys like better because personally I like Genbu Kaiden much better. The heroine is more responsible and is independent unlike Miaka.

Genbu Kaiden, definately, because it's more practical, I mean Miaka's cool and all, but in Genbu she's actually learning to accept them, while Miaka had it so easy because she was wanted.

i have to say the original FY. I like them both alot, but the original is so much better. I like the lead in FY Genbu Kaiden better, but all the others i like better in FY itself. I was so mad about the ending by the way. It was good and all, but they all died!

I love the prequel better. Maybe because the priestess isn't annoying like Miaka. ^^;
