Mallory smiles and barely suppresses laughter. "I am not a child, adoré. I am seventeen years old; my father took to work younger than I. It is true I've lived a soft life of privilege before now, but I am not entirely incapable. Besides..." Mallory looked up to Lance and reached up to touch his cheek. "If you must do everything for me, you will come to resent me. I could not bear it; I would die." Mallory felt there was more he could say, more behind his statement than the words he had spoken. But he also feared they would taint the moment, that Lance would not understand the fear of rejection that his youth had instilled in him. How could he even begin to explain?

I stood on the highest roof in West Tamatha, gazing down at the city below. I pondered jumping, only to be ruthlessly reminded that I would land on my feet. The wind showed no mercy to my bare-backed body, it conjured up every blow with the inhumanity that it gripped so tightly. I rocked back and forth a little, letting gravity decide which way I should go. I wished that by some accidental circumstance I could become mortal for a short second, just long enough to fall and let my soul bounce to whatever afterlife it was meant for. Lillith's face peered into each thought, but it was often covered by the face of a newborn child. I tossed a hand into the air, ripping the space in front of me. No! I couldn't be a father! Not the father of my ex-girlfriend! The mistake was my own, but guilt wasn't going to take a shot at my self pitty, not now. This was my time to be angry at everyone but myself for the problems I'd brought onto me. This was my time to either runaway from it all or die trying. The decision was seconds away, though I didn't know my choices. I could just feel every inch of me preparing for what was about to happen, as if it had known all along. I silently waited for the moment it did, sure that I would not be dissapointed.

Lance shook his head. "If you insist on working, than I will find you a job, but I warn you know you will not like it. Work is no fun no matter how fond of your chosen action you are to start off with." He did not want Mallory to be crushed by reality like he had been; the boy was still filled with dreams and young life that it would be tragic if it happened on his watch. He then stopped talking and tried to fall asleep setting a good example for the boy on his arms.

"Work is not meant to be enjoyable." Mallory agreed. He curled up against Lance like a cat, head rested on the man's chest. A soft sigh of content escaped his lips and he listened intently to the lullaby of Lance's blood in his veins. He was soon lulled into sleep. A myriad of dreams skittered across his consciousness, many of which he would not even remember upon waking. But one put a smile on his lips, even in his slumber. That dream, of course, was of Lance.

Alphonse and Lillith were having mixed luck, but it was better than no luck at all. People were leaving, escaping to safety and taking their families with them. Where they would go he did not know, but any place seemed better than here. Alphonse paused beneath a tall building and stared toward its roof. "There is someone up there. Do you see him, Lillith?"

Lance slept thought the rest of the flight; he awoke when a flight attendant touched his shoulder. He opened his eyes and looked up at her. She whispered something about arriving soon, and moved on. Lance glanced out the window and saw New York City. She shook Mal softly and grinned. He wanted the boy to see the famous skyline first hand. It was early morning now, and the dim light of the sun could be seem just peeking over the horizon.

Mallory is reluctant to wake, murmuring soft words in French. But slowly he blinks his eyes open and yawns. "We have arrived, mon amour?" Mallory uncurls to look up at Lance, then looks out of the window for the first time. His first impression of New York City was quite a striking one. He had seen novelty items and photographs of the skyline and his father had described it to him, but that was nothing like seeing it for the first time from a plane in the early morning. Of course, Mallory had been too young to remember his last plane ride at all. "It almost does not seem real, looking at it like this."

"We're home." He said looking out the window at his old home town. He put a hand up to the window and sighed. He remembered the many good times he had experienced in this city, as well as all the hard times. "Your going to love it." He whispered in the boy's ear. He did not want to give him to high of hopes, but he also did not want to wash away the illusion to soon.

Mallory smiled and reached out his hand to lay it on top of Lance's against the window. Even his hands looked too small and dainty next to Lance's, he realized as he looked at them together. His fingers were long, but very slender. "Bien sûr, mon cher. Of course I will. I have you with me." he pauses for a moment, then has to ask, "Will you stay? I know you left behind many you care for to be here with me. Will you be going back for them?"

Lance was a little taken back by the boys question. "Of course I will be staying, Why else would I have dragged you here of all places. I can not go back, I can not leave you." He smiled and bushed the boy's cheek with his lips. "And If I were going to ditch you here I most certainly would not tell you beforehand.” He laughed and leaned back in his seat.

Mallory smiled, looking quite relieved. "I do not mean to offend by asking. It is just... how can I say it? I do not think myself more important than they. I have not the ego to imagine that only I hold your heart. And yet it is I who have you. It is almost unreal to me." Mallory leans against Lance and nuzzles his neck, leaving light kisses. "It is better than any dream I have dared to dream. And yet it is real." The plane was landing into a future Mallory could only barely begin to believe was for him. Logic tried to break in and remind him that this was no fairy tale and there would be hardships here as in any other place. But logic had no place in his mind right now; only the fairy tale.

Lance watched out the window as the plane landed touching down smoothly on well lit runway. "Than you must not dream much, because in the best of my dreams; I've gained enough money to buy a house with a giant room dedicated to only Olympic style trampolines." He laughed and messed up the kid's hair jokingly. He thought that such playful actions would help to bring the mood to a less deep location.

"Trampolines, mon cher? I am being serious!" Mallory laughs and smooths his hair into place. Then he reaches out to touch Lance's hair. He loves the silver of Lance's hair and often finds himself drawn to it, playing in it and just enjoying the feel of soft, silken strands on his fingers. "Besides, what about the giant room dedicated to a dance studio? Which I shall practice in as I conquer the world of performing arts. I will need much room to choreograph my five hour pièce de résistance!"

"I think that is your dream my love, not mine, but I will help you to achieve it if that is what you truly want." He wiggled a little and dug a cell phone out of his pocket. "I need take make a call." He said and dilled the phone quickly then held the small silver device to his right ear. It rang and a man's voice answered. "Barry?" Lance asked the voice mumbled something and lance sighed. "Ya, it's Lance.... I love you too man, but I got a favor to ask." He listened to the voice go on about lance's previous experience mooching off of others. "I got this kid with me, and we barely escaped Tam. With our lives, we need a place to crash till I can pick myself back up... no....Please man?" He sighed and ran a hand though his hair. "Look, I really need this right now, I swear I'll pay you back.... fine, sure whatever you want." He bit his lip and glanced at Mallory's face. "Bye, love you to." Lance ended the calla and slumped in his seat a little closing his eyes.

Mallory waited patiently for Lance to finish his call. And though he was ashamed to admit it, he had listened intently to Lance's side of the conversation. Finally Mallory rose and stepped into the aisle to stretch his limbs. "Your friend. He is not very pleased to hear from you." Mallory was not certain what else to say. He felt apologetic and somewhat at fault for Lance's stress. He leaned over Lance's seat and lightly kissed his lips. "Cheer up, adoré. I will not give this man reason to think me a burdensome child. Shall we depart?" Mallory smiled warmly, then started down the aisle.

Lance stood and stretched his arms over his head groaning loudly. "Ugh, Well, Barry and I were not in the best of moods when we last met, but If we must bother one of my friends for an extended period of time he is our best bet. He has a large loft, and keeps a clean house, he never-... He's kind, and respectful. You'll get along fine." Lance did not want to tell the boy that the only reason he had to stay at Barry's was because he was his only friend who he was sure never brought human's over for a last night.

He stepped out into the Aisle, and lead the boy off the plane, and though security, baggage, and the moving staircases, all the way to the front doors. "Hungry?" He looked down at the boy who stood at his side. It had been thirteen hours since he last eat, he had to be at least a little hungry.
