He felt the stone give just a little bit. Just had to be careful. A little bit more...and the bone in his beak turned to ash. He'd been to forceful with it.
Hopping down to the ground, he decided to see if he could find a better angle to try from.

Again, Astra tried to gently cut away some of the bone, trying to be as careful as possible.

Crack
She had been so close...but alas, her efforts were in vain. The peice she had been cutting suddenly fell off, and once it hit the floor it just turned to ash
Astra looked at the area were it had fallen, started for a few moments, then fell to her knees again as the tears began anew.

Before Lattice could walk away very far she paused and stared at the one that fell and started to weep. Lattice tilted her head a bit as she moved to stand beside the weeping student and kneeled quietly. Lattice quietly offered over the piece she procured, "Here have mine. It is okay, do not cry please. I do not think she'd want us to cry."

Astra paused, looking at the piece of bone and then at the student who was offering it to her, simply awestruck that someone else, a student she wasn't familiar with no less, was offering her such a thing. She stood up, again wiping away the tears from her eyes, suddenly feeling very foolish. "N-no, i-it's alright.." She sniffed, looking up at Lattice. "I thank you for offering it to me..but I couldn't bear to take it away from you." She looked back to the skull. "I'm just...sad that shes....she's...." The ghoul was right. Red wouldn't want them to cry. But it was so very hard not to. ((ooc note: no seriously she's crying cause she's upset red is gone, sorry if I made it seem she's upset she didn't get a piece, she's just griving BD wink )

She pulled the piece back to her person as she stood back onto her own two feet nodding a bit, "Are you certain? I do not mind..I just..I couldn't bear to leave her alone here without..taking some part of her home," she murmured softly to the other student.
"I admit that I do not know much of her but I am certain she was a great professor for so many to care for her," Lattice added after a moment. "Since...it seems you knew her better than I did and I thought it'd be better you have it..." ((Naw don't worry about it. Lattice's motivation was based on Astra's grief not because she didn't manage to get a piece from it. XDD))

"Yes, I'm certain." Astra nodded. "Besides...it's not like it would bring her back or anything...it's just a piece of bone now..." "Red was...she was a really tough professor. " She continued on. "Her classes were hard...but they were meant to make teach us. She always seemed so strong, and really, really scary." She thought back to watching Red slash away at Arel in her full werewolf form, and then when she saw the professor meet them at the island trip. And even just seeing her around school... "I didn't see her that much, and I'm sure many know her better then I do...but I still respected her"

She quietly held the piece of bone in her hands her fingertips rubbing against the surface as she listened to the ghoul talk she nodded her head a bit, "Well..I am going to place the bone in my prayer shrine so I can honor her memory and her sacrifice," she said softly. "You are...very much free to come visit and view it anytime you wish."
It was really the only other thing she could offer in this time.
"She did seem very strong and very intimidating but in a good way," Lattice offered quietly, "I would have admired her if I had gotten the chance to know her a bit better."
She shifted a bit, "My name is Lattice, perhaps when things settle down we could talk together on happier terms?"

A prayer shrine? Astra thought it a fitting place, and was happy that even a small part of Red would be left to rest in such a peaceful area. "Thank you..." She said once again. " You're really kind to allow me to visit her..." She would have to do something for this ghoul, if she could. "And my name is Astra...It's a pleasure to meet you Lattice" She offered a smile, but it very half hearted. "I'd love to do that." Although, it would be a long time before she could consider anything "happy."

"It is no problem for me to offer it to you," She replied with a small nod.
All in all she was glad to at least make someone feel a bit better despite everything maybe not happy but better than before, she was glad to have not let the ghoul suffer in peace.
"Pleased to meet you, Astra," she said quietly. "I would love that as well. I hope we get to go home soon so we can all get some rest and take stock..." Lattice was trying not to let it bother her that she didn't really see many faces she knew around her other than a few, but as Red had told them...They cannot die right...? Seeming contradiction or not she would simply hope to see them again soon.

Finally the bastards were gone, the barrier was gone, and all that remained where his classmates and Red's stone skull. Gold and black eyes rose to watch as other students moved towards all that was left of their teacher, their mentor, watched as some cried as they tried to get a piece of Red. She wouldn't leave them behind, why should they leave her?
A feeling of numbness all over, Julian stood and glanced at Sin, unaware of the wet tracks down his cheeks. He turned away after a heartbeat and moved towards the faerie ghoul he recognized and the ghoul he did not. Without a word, his claws slashed out at the stone, trying to chip it away.

He'd hit it too hard, he just chipped away a chunk that fell into ash. Swallowing down the pain, the hatred, the fear, the demon tried again.

Softer, that was the key, he needed to be careful. This was his teacher after all. Or, she could have been. He had never made it into her GYM class. And now he never would...

Julian paused, letting out a slow, shuddering breath as he tried to keep a hold on himself. He needed to concentrate, he needed to get this right. If anything on this whole Jack-damned trip, he needed to get this right. Once more, his claws shot out and struck stone.
