Shayann's ears flicked back momentarily as his name was called. It was the only indication that he might have been surprised or displeased, and could easily have been missed by the casual observer. He'd counted on going with Rolan, though there wouldn't really be time for chit-chat. It would be better than following along behind Princess Peeve, who obviously found him less than charming. Still, he accepted his placement with a silent nod, unconsciously shifting into a position reminiscent of the military's at-the-ready stance. At least he had another chance to put himself in her good graces.

Makaio must've looked like a yearling, the way he held back an childish buck when Charlotte nodded towards him. His hind legs only picked up a few inches in the air, but it was enough to show his very obvious excitement. He nodded once as Charlotte passed, a mix of respect and acceptance. Even Charlotte bringing Bane along in their party couldn't have dampened his mood.

It would've been nice to hear his Guardian's take on the situation, but she wasn't talking. Makaio sometimes wasn't sure if his Guardian didn't want to talk to him or just didn't want to talk, but she usually offered a few soft, hesitant words of advice when he needed it most. Apparently now she didn't think he needed those words. And that was fine with him, really. They'd come to an...an interesting agreement, the two of them.

Trotting like a show pony, he followed behind Charlotte, slowing to let Shay up in front and falling back in the small miniature herd of the others.

"Life is either a great adventure or nothing," he said in that distanced voice, despite the fact that his head was turned towards them. His tone was more direct when he added with a beaming smile, "This'll be interesting, huh?"

Bane flicked his ear at the thought of trekking through the snow, then inwardly groaned. Great. I'll probably kill myself on this stupid search.

Wolfbane had a guardian, but she (Tanya) would never talk to him. Even if she did, he tended to ignore her warnings and just do as he usually did. After the first few times she was ignored, she just shut up completely. If she did speak, it was usually during an awkward time (usually when Gwen and him were walking very close to each other), and she would surprise him, causing him to knock into Gwen. Which usually ended in him getting bruised and Gwen in a fiery rage for the rest of the day. Then Tanya would be smug, say that he should have listened, then ignored his own mind mutterings, disappearing again. In other words, he and his guardian weren't exactly the closest of pairs.

Chanda half spooked away from the bouncy Makaio.. He acted as if he were a child, something that Chanda could almost envy.. But still made her nervous... She listened to Bane as he groaned.. Why did he come if he hadn't wanted to actually do any thing? She watched his expression carefully, almost staring as she absentmindedly tried to figure things out...He's probably alot nicer than he wants to seem..

Well, darn. She was on the backup team. How frusterating. Guess she should have said something earlier, but it was too late now. There was a major chance that Rolan's group could miss something, though, and she would certainly be sure to catch whatever they missed.

Although resigned to the slower group, there was no way she was going to stay in the back. She started forward towards the snow. The sooner they left, the sooner she could figure out what was going on. Charlotte could technically lead, but Taz would literaly lead the way. With her thick coat, determination and bright color she would be a good herla to forage their way through the snow, ice, and possibly low visibility. She paused at the edge of the clearing to wait for her group.

Guess she'd better yell something to get their attention. She wouldn't normally, but Taz really wanted to get started."Come on, backup group! Let's head out already!" The main group would certainly pass them, going at greater speeds with less herla, but someone had to get the search effort going to begin with.

The movement of the violet-furred Herla, as well as her shout, made Shay wince inwardly. Charlotte had already dragged several Herla over the coals for getting ahead of the leaders. It would be a shame for this lovely girl to meet the same fate. He went into action, bounding forward until he was alongside her. "Wait," he told her. "We're the backup. Our job is to stay behind Rolan's group and wait until we are needed." He turned back toward the clearing, hoping she would take the hint.

"Don't get in trouble!" Makaio called out after the determined doe as the trotted out infront of their larger group. He lowered his head like a fawn concerned with being caught for eating the clovers that were supposed to be saved. He didn't want her to get in trouble like Bane had, either, and he would've stepped forward himself if Shay hadn't. It was a good thing they had such a reliable Herla in their group looking out for them all. He couldn't understand why Charlotte seemed so upset when she picked him.

No longer as concerned about Taz's fate, he decided it prime time to do what Charlotte had instructed; make friends. He glanced over the gathering of Herla anxiously waiting to travel forward, his nostrils flaring as he familiarized himself with the scents of the ones who would be with Charlotte. He hadn't at all noticed the way that Chanda had moved away from him earlier, but he did catch her steady expression as she eyed Bane. He glanced between the two of them, then moved closer to her, passing Bane as he did so.

"I don't think you have to worry about him," Makaio said in a matter-of-fact, almost trusting tone. He emphasized the "him" with a slight nudge of his nose to Bane's flank before quickly cantering away from him and coming to a stop next to Chanda, turning around to beam at the disgruntled buck.

Bane suddenly realized that he had been more foul tempered than he was usually. He had no reason to, though. Perhaps the prospect of strangers without Gwen had caused him pains? He shook his head; he could live without Gwen.

See, Bane? You should have listened to me, and none of this would've happened. I'm glad you didn't, though, it's way more amusing.

The voice, no more than a whisper, caused Wolfbane to jump back. He straightened himself up, knowing that he would be laughed at for his reaction to nothing. A clear giggle came to him.

Relax. You worry too much, Bane. It's only me, if you even remember.

Bane tried to ignore Tanya's voice. She was obviously no more than a child, for her voice was very playful and taunting, like a foal playing with its companions. Oddly enough, however, he could not ignore his guardian.

You are uncomfortable, but relax. They will not harm you now. Be aware of the ice that coats the path, Bane. It looks harmless, but can kill. Be careful.

The voice faded, leaving Bane confused. Tanya had actually warned him? She hadn't done that since months ago, when he first bonded to her. Not a taunt or anything? How could ice be dangerous? Shaking his head with a puzzled look on his face, he moved with Charlotte's group forward.

Taz rolled her eyes. She was here by choice. All the herla here were. She could leave anytime she wanted, so why should she be worried about 'getting in trouble'? She wasn't a child.

She watched the other herla start forward with satisfaction. They were finally moving. Then she snorted at Shay. "Of course we're the backup. But what use is backup if we're all still sitting in a clearing. We should all get going before the trail goes cold. Literaly." She took a couple steps to distance herself from Shay. What an annoying herla.

Chanda smiled weakly at Makaio, "I'm not worried, just thinking." She watched with a mild and almost patient intrest as the young acting herla nudged bane, someone who was his almost complete opposite. Chanda smiled, laughter in her glassy eyes as she watched the mock play. "...My name is Chanda..Ann for short." She watched, spooking away from Bane as he jumped, and then forcing herself to calm down. What would the other herla think if they saw her as jumpy as a rabbit under a tallon's watch? This might be one of her last chances to really see the parts of the glen... She tossed her head, letting her mane fall over her eyes, as if it would hide the fact that her eyes didn't seem to focus like they should.
Don't worry Chanda, we'll find the alchemist.. He'll know what to do...

Apparently, the purple female wanted to be chastised and made an example of. Shayann shrugged his golden shoulders and went back to his previous location. He'd done his job. To push her any further without Charlotte's or Rolan's permission would be crossing the line. He was content to let them take care of the situation.

Watching as her group formed around her, Charlotte gave each a weighing glance. Bane and Shay commanded most of here attention: the former for the problems he should cause; the latter out of habit and curiosity. She had never gotten along with Shayann, mostly out of shear bloody-mindedness. Something about him just made her want to say 'No' to him. Maybe simply being forced together on this might make some progress on their interaction. And maybe she was a flighty little foal.

Her reverie was snapped as the purple female, Taz, Charlotte thought she was called, tried to lead her group out of the clearing, even before Rolan started moving his own out. She trotted over to Taz, head shaking in annoyance, as she moved to block her path.

"Excuse me, but I believe that I am in charge of this group," Charlotte snapped, staring her challenge into Taz's eyes. "If you have a problem with waiting for my orders, then I suggest you stay here. I need to be able to trust that my people will listen to me when there is a problem, and if you go haring off on your own, I can't do that." Arkadian whispered in her ear, trying to calm her and not verbally bite the female's head off. She shook his voice off, though it did calm her slightly, enough to not make too much of a scene. "So, I'll say it again. Either you follow my lead, or I leave you here. Understand?"

-content with staying back and watching the interactions between the other Herla in her group, Merala stayed silent-
'So this is our group eh?' she mused to herself. 'Quite a selection...the angry one, the impatient one, the one who seems to be scared of her shadow... I hope we don't run into any real combat.'

Oh Mera...you know they'll do the best they can. There's no need to be so judgmental. You don't know why they are the way they are. -whispered a voice in her mind-

'I know that. I'm not judging, just making an assessment. Now shush, and let me think. -shaking her head in an attempt to silence her guardian-

fine, fine...pardon me...-you could almost hear her eyes rolling-

Oh, b***h, did you see that Lumi? Wow, we know who wears the pants in any relationship she's in!
Lumi's hed fell forward as she attempted to cover her face with her hair. She couldn't beleive Poisin had just said that. She tried stifling the giggles that bubbled forth, but instead she ended up emitting more of a muttley (the evil red barons dog) sound. Her shoulders shook with the effort and she wondered slightly what she might have looked like, or more importantly how she might have sounded to Heret. She hoped that he'd heard what Charlotte had said, otherwise she might just look crazy, becuase she was certain that she looked mean for chortling at that moment in time she really hoped that other guardians could hear each other and prayed maybe they were laughing too so the herla's with guardians would know it wasn't her fault. She took a deep calming breath, again trying to stifle the laughter that threatened to break through her lips.

Makaio tensed slightly at the sudden jumpy behavior of the two Herla nearest him; first Bane, a Herla who had seemed otherwise stoic in his antisocial mannerisms, and now Chanda, a Herla who seemed fairly composed. He didn't jump like they did, but his ears shifted backwards, his scorpion-like tail raising slightly as though it itched to raise itself over his head in a just-in-case defensive move.

"Are you...okay?" The question was aimed only at Chanda, at first. Makaio nudged the line of her jaw with his nose in concern before glancing up ahead at Bane. "You both got...really...well. Well, I think once we get started you'll feel better." His smile was more than reassuring - it was borderline trusting, that kind of expression that comes from nothing but blind faith. "You'll see. It'll be fun. Even for you," he added as he gave Bane a pointed but amused look. He nodded, smiled, then tilted his ears back to Lumi's attempts at stifling a snicker. His smile got a little bigger as he half-turned to face her. "See? She's having fun already."
