Jiriar watched as Sovann--no, he'd have to shorten his name now, huh?--led his new companion from the sands, still grinning slightly with delight. Shards and Shells, good for him. After that catastrophe with the klah-off, he needed a bit of good luck. His attention was quickly drawn back as another egg shuddered, and out the dragon spilled. So much for graceful! Sure, they were babies, but the sight of the little ones was almost enough to make him grin at his sandals. He seemed to be a rather picky thing, didn't he? First weaving towards the boys, then abruptly changing course to slip towards the girls...
...Maybe that little mouse of a girl he'd seen before during the contest would Impress today, hm? His fingers would be crossed for her.

Lanakirene smiled at H'dek as he talked about Bondyeth, and nodded. The arrogant little bronze was no doubt a handful indeed, but H'dek was capable of handling, she was certain. Keeping her eyes on the crowds, she gasped along with everyone else when the next egg hatched, watching with baited breath as the disdainful little blue stepped out. All the dragons that had hatched thus far were absolutely lovely, and the little blue was...
Oh! He was going toward the girls! La couldn't avoid a wash of relief and triumph at that sight. Perhaps there was hope after all for the future days when Isonth flew. Admittedly, she had been getting more and more concerned about that as her dragon grew. No matter how strong Flight emotions were, there were some things she was just not comfortable with...and constantly waking up next to men was one of them.
Lanamine? What is happening? Why so excited? Isonth was eager for the play-by-play, and La couldn't disappoint her. One brown and one green so far, found Theirs nice and quick, easy Impressions. Everybody's happy. Little blue going toward the girls, now, she relayed, leaning forward a bit to scan the crowd and wonder who it was that this little one was moving toward.
***
As the lovely spotted egg shook and hatched a blue, Hanya breathed a disappointed sigh. She was hoping for another green, one that would not immediately move toward the boys. There was so little chance for the girls with so many gay boys and male-coloured dragons, and Hanya had to admit, she was jealous of the boy who acquired such a pretty green.
And then the blue's course changed, and his obviously disdainful movements took him to the girls, and Hanya's eyes went huge, her mouth forming a an 'o' of surprise. Blues Impressing girls? She supposed that if greens could Impress boys, then it all made sense, but...would that mean that whoever Impressed would have to like girls? How did that work? Standing stock-still on her tiptoes, she held her breath and waited.
What would happen next?

Quinnel’s thoughts were briefly interrupted when she realized that the Hatchling headed towards the girls didn’t look very green. Squinting, she realized that the Hatchling actually looked quite like a Blue.
‘ Odd that, a Blue for a girl; no worse, I suppose, then a Green for a boy. Blues are pretty, yes, like rain- rain, mud… mud! Stalker-Flitt shall be Mud!’
Giggling, Quinnel clapped her hands quietly, glad to have found a name for Stalker-Flit: Mud.

Westren had this feeling like he was being watched, despite his efforts to quietly slip into the Sands. He would have turned to see if he was correct – the feeling was rather uncomfortable – but was distracted when a new egg broke, revealing a Blue. He held his breath as the Blue made its way towards the males, and could feel the adrenaline beginning to course through his veins, so it was somewhat disappointing when the Blue changed course and headed for the female Candidates.
‘ I didn’t know Blues Impressed girls.’ He thought as he watched the small Blue’s progress. It was with a jolt that he remembered that his sister was a Candidate. Standing un tip-toe, he tried to see over the surrounding Candidates to see if he could spy his sister, scowling when he realized that he was a good deal shorter then the older Candidates.

Davian was watching the little blue dragonet that tumbled from the egg with excitement. At first he felt his heart soar, he was heading towards the boys. Maybe it'd be him, but then the little dragon changed course going after the girls. Davian sighed quietly, but then grinned. Maybe his sister would Impress! His fingers were twitching as he stood, watching the blue, nervous energy coursing through him.

The blue suddenly veered again, though he kept in his path towards the girls. There was his! His was hiding. Why was his doing that? Had she done something shameful? Well, never mind. He was dirty and he didn't like to be around all this screaming babies. He was clearly above that... Wasn't he?
Fuxith is hungry. Will Zara feed him? But he doesn't want to talk to his siblings. No, Zara must feed him far away! Oh dear... It appeared that Zara suddenly had her hands very, very full.
Hot-linked for giant ness. By Ryu! Ignore the Kamoth part. >.>
In the wake of Fuxith's Impression, more eggs were splintering and cracking, including one mottled shell that spilled forth a brown dragon who took time to shake his head first, trying to clear it of whatever cobwebs a baby dragon could possess...

Kiriwar watched with anticipation as the little blue hatched and tottered towards the girl, eager to see who would Impress this time. There was a thrill in seeing what others were getting their dragons, who was reaching that goal, and a low-lying nervousness as he waited to see if his own turn would come around. Now, though, there was another egg hatching, another brown spilling forth, and he bit his bottom lip to see who would be honored with this one...

Talar bit the inside of her lower lip as she watched the dragons throw off the shells that had held them, and make their way across the Sands towards their chosen ones. Her fingers clutched at the ends of her headscarf, the skillfully stitched fabric stretching and wrinkling under her tight and worried hold. Excitement and nerves both coursed through her system as she watched the Hatchings.

Nandeli looked quite surprised when a blue made his way over towards the girls, but decided not to question it. Stranger things had happened at hatchings, and a blue picking a girl wasn’t rare enough to warrant any raised eyebrows. Still, she would have to keep an eye on the rider. The blue didn’t seem at all interested in the front row, so she simply stepped aside and allowed him to continue onwards towards his bonded. It looked like it was one of the Healer girls, an older Candidate too. Good for her!
But oh! A brown dragon! Nan grinned as it hatched, watching to see where the little brown would go. Boys always had so much more choice for colours, and so it was always interesting to see which boy got what colour. Perhaps it would be for someone that she knew.

Veyes looked on as the blue moved from the boys to the girls; he had hoped that Hanya or Firyal might be the lucky ones but instead the dragon veered to someone he hadn't met yet. Ah well another perfect match...he guessed without really knowing if that were truly the case but he had to believe that it worked like that.
However, he was distracted away from the blue quickly as a brown emerged. It was fun to watch the dreams of others come together and wondered who this one would choose. After touching all of these eggs it was hard to remember what he had felt about that one at the time. But soon enough the match would be settled and another hopeful face would be blessed. He started to relax a bit more because things were going quickly and while his expectations had been high when he first came in; he didn't want to think of this one hatching as his only hope. In the grand scheme of things, this was only the beginning.

Riyin held her breath as the blue tottered around then headed to Zara, with an out burst of breath she smiled, at least he was sure to be happy.
As she turned back to the eggs yet another burst a brown, again her breath caught.

Conomor shivered as he watched the blue make his choice. Another rider made. Another soul completed. Would that be him soon? Could it be? Of course it could be, he hoped desperately that it would be. All those joyous faces as rider and dragon met. He wanted that. Needed it, needed it like he needed air, food, water. Let on of them chose him. Let his dragon hatch today. Let him join the ranks of Ista's riders. Let him make his parents proud. Let it be him. Earlier he had thought he wouldn't mind not Impressing this time. Now, standing on the sands, it looked rather different. He wanted this so badly it felt as though his heart might burst!

Kypak couldn't stop the way his stomach knotted when the blue hatched -- but the sensation faded just as swiftly as the dragonet made its preference for females obvious. So he was able to watch with relative ease of mind and impartiality as the fussy little creature picked his way across the sands. He recognized Zara, and grinned, making the mental note to congratulate her later. A fellow Healercraft apprentice, and all -- and she seemed a sensible sort, with a good head on her shoulders. A good match for a fussier dragon. And Faranth, he was handsome! Subtle markings, good color...
And then the brown hatched, and once again he couldn't think. Not as bad as a blue -- didn't browns usually go for straight men? He seemed to recall someone mentioning they tended that way -- but still. He shuffled a little in place, making sure he knew which direction to move, just in case the little brown shook off its apparent confusion and started moving in a hurry.

Hanya took a deep breath as the dragon found His in Zara, and exhaled it slowly, reminding herself that she had plenty of time. The excitement of the hatching only seemed to heighten her desire to Impress a dragon, and also to heighten every emotion that ran through her.
Which was certainly the reason that, when the new dragon spilled forward, she barely contained a squeal of excitement before realizing that his hide was brown. She didn't frown, minor disappointment already forgotten as she bounced on the balls of her feet, trying to see over the heads of other Candidates and figure out who the little thing was going to go to. She wondered again about Veyes; would he Impress this time? Would he Impress a brown? This brown?
She wasn't even sure if he liked women or not, but she wasn't sure that always mattered. She suppressed a quiet squeak and shivered delightedly in her adrenaline rush, waiting to see who the newest little dragon would choose.

Most people were looking with evident surprise at the brown that had emerged. He had come from an egg that was relatively unnoticed, despite it's large size. People just hadn't remarked on it. It lacked the bright colors the others had, and seemed relatively put off to the side. This was the Black Neon Tetra Egg, though it now lay in shards surrounding a strapping young brown who looked incredibly grumpy.
He was quick on his feet though, glancing around at all the other dragons. No more had come out yet, but he was certain that their time was coming. They were going to steal his. No! HIs was his was his, and they couldn't have him.
It seemed a great distance for the brown to go. He had to traverse past the females first, determination set in his little brow, before he could finally reach the boys. But this still wasn't safe territory- another dragon could still swoop in and steal the Candidate who belonged to him. And this brown wasn't going to accept anything other than what he had firmly implanted in his mind.
He shouldered past a few of the Candidates in a way that was not exactly gentle, but again, lacked the true strength that would have seriously injured someone. He was more concerned with finding his rider than he was in unleashing his grumpy nature on all the others standing there. Where was his? His was... There he was! His rider was just hiding behind a few other Candidates. This wasn't a very fun game.
C'miel, Lurenith was looking for you. You were going to let another dragon take you and you're mine and that's not right. Lurenith sounded petulant, but his eyes were whirling a multitude of colors. Another Impression had been made!

Fuxith is hungry. Will Zara feed him? But he doesn't want to talk to his siblings. No, Zara must feed him far away!
Startled, Zara looked down at the delicately-built hatchling that had made his way to her...and found herself lost in the whirling eyes, faceted like the finest of a Lady Holder's jewels. The surge of emotions that threatened to overwhelm her felt like coming home after a long absence, or finding safety in the midst of a violent storm. Despite herself, happy tears rose to the corners of her eyes.
Not here! With a distinct huff, Fuxith nudged her with his nose. Feed me first...and make sure it's not with them.
Reverie broken all too soon, Zara smiled and reached her hand down to scratch a delicate eyeridge. "Of course, Fuxith. And only the best bits of meat, too!"
