Roxas frowned looking up at Zexion. "I can't shake the feeling that something bad is going down. I just... I wish I knew he was okay." Roxas said getting up off the floor and sitting with them at the table. Demyx didn't seem much better at this point. He was shaking a little and just staring down at his food as he ate slowly. If either one of them got hurt, it would be devastating to Demyx to know he was the cause of it.
There was a ringing in Xaldin's ears from the newer gunshots. Then he could hear Axel's voice. ".... if I don't make it.... protect.. Demyx.." Xaldin whispered before he started to cough up blood. Everything was extremely filtered by pain, but he knew it was Axel there with him. He knew what Axel would be saying even though he could barely hear him. Xaldin took in a another painful breath before closing his eyes and drifting off. He knew he probably wasn't completely died yet, but he was just too tired to sit through it. By the time the ambulance got there, Xaldin was completely passed out in Axel's arm bleeding out.

Zexion nodded. "I know... But...we can only hope that the best is happening. Maybe they're already in hiding...safe." He held Demyx in his arms gently, laying his head on the blond's shoulder.
"N-No... Xal, stay with me... Please..," Axel sobbed, holding him a little tighter. He reluctantly allowed Xaldin to be taken to the hospital, but he rode in the car with him, waiting to reveal his own wounds because he knew Xaldin needed all the attention right then. They couldn't let him die... He was what held all of them together... Without him...neither he nor Demyx would still be there...
He winced as his arm was sterilized and stitched up from the graze. He would have to go into surgery for the bullet in his leg. He had told the doctors to admit no one to see Xaldin other than himself, and the police had been there just moment earlier. He had told them the whole story--from Zexion to the shooting. They said they'd keep an eye out for Leon, but Axel knew he'd be in the shadows. Waiting... He let out a deep sigh, staring at the ceiling. He had debated calling Demyx and Roxas, but he didn't want to without knowing if Xaldin... He felt his throat close up as tears sprang to his eyes. No... Xaldin would be okay. There was no way he wouldn't be... He was in surgery right now, getting the bullets removed. He would be fine... "Okay, let's get you down to surgery for that bullet wound," the doctor told him once the stitching was done. Axel just nodded, laid down on the bed, and allowed himself to be rolled away.
An hour and a half later found him sitting in a chair in the room they were going to hold Xaldin after surgery. He was staring at the ceiling again. He wasn't thinking. His mind was completely...blank.

The hours passed so aching slow. Roxas wanted only to get his mind off of things. After dinner, they all agreed to go to bed, but as Roxas laid down on the couch, he realized how hard that was. His eyes moved around the room seeing the Tv. Maybe there was a movie on or something right? He walked over to it, and clicked it on. The volume was turned down, and the new was playing. It was probably the last thing Zexion watched. Roxas's eyes widened as he watch the scene play out. It was a reporter talking about a shooting that went down earlier. The truly terrifying thing was the fact that it was out in front of Axel and Xaldin's apartment. Roxas felt he should get up and tell Zexion, but he couldn't move. All he could do was sit there in front of the tv staring. There was so much blood on the sidewalk.....

Axel perked up quickly as he heard the door open suddenly. His eyes widened a little when he saw Xaldin wheeled in on a bed. "Holy s**t, Xaldin," he breathed in relief, seeing his chest rise and fall evenly. "H-He's okay, right? He's gonna be okay?" he asked quickly, eyes not leaving his friend's face. The doctor assured him of that fact, told him not to get him worked up when he woke up, and that the bullet was just far away from his heart to not be fatal considering the time frame they got him to the hospital. Then the man left, leaving Axel alone in the room with Xaldin. Axel let out a deep sigh and kept his eyes on him still. Then he glanced over at the bags and such in the corner of the room, along with the guitar case that they had packed up. He let out another sigh and limped over, sliding his phone out of the bag's pocket. He dialed Roxas' number and let out a deep breath, trying to stop the trembling of his body.

Roxas stared blankly at the t.v. feeling his eyes swell with tears. His chest felt like it was locking up, and breathing was no longer possible. He heard his phone going off, but he couldn't move. "Roxas, Roxas, what's wrong, Roxas?" A voice called, but Roxas didn't response. His brain was shutting down. Axel was dead. Leon killed him and now it was only a matter of time until they were all captured.
"Zexion! Zexion! Something is wrong with Roxas!" Demyx called to the back room. He had gotten up to get some water, but as soon as he heard Roxas sob, he stopped to see if he was okay. The dirty blonde looked up at the t.v. playing, but the new report had changed by then. Demyx looked at Roxas crying before noticing the phone was ringing. "Roxas, hold on okay?" Demyx said softly getting up and getting the phone off the table. "Hello?" Demyx answered as he moved back to Roxas wrapping his arms around the smaller blond waiting for Zexion to get up and help him with Roxas.

Zexion rushed in just as soon as Demyx answered the phone. He kneeled in front of Roxas and tilted his head down to look into his eyes. "Roxas. Roxas, look at me. Focus on me, my eyes. C'mon, Roxas. Hey," he said softly, rubbing his cheek gently with his thumb.
"Demyx?" Axel blinked in surprise, expecting Roxas. "Where's Roxas? Is he alright?" he asked, worry leaking into his voice, body tensing up almost immediately. Demyx sounded a little frantic... What if Leon had already found them? Tears flooded his eyes. "A-Are you guys alright? Is everything okay?" he asked again, voice cracking a bit.

Roxas looked at Zexion not breathing for about a minute, even with Zexion talking to him. He gasped a small breath. "One is dead... Axel is dying... I know it..." He muttered feeling tears pouring down his face like a fountain. Demyx looked back at Roxas as he started to speak up. "There was so much blood, Blood Zexion, Blood, they are dead. We're next!" Roxas started to scream in a panic now. His volume expanding greatly in his short words. Demyx without answering anything Axel had said, shoved the phone at Roxas. "Hey crazy, it's Axel on the phone. He sounds fine, worried sick about you." The he stated plainly as he did. Roxas breathed looking at Demyx. "... wha.. Axel?" Roxas answered the phone questionably. Demyx looked at Zexion questionably now. "What do you think freaked him out so bad?" The blonde mouthed as he moved to Zexion and hugging him.

Axel was a bit startled by Roxas screaming. It really freaked him out. So much, actually, that a tear rolled itself down the redhead's face. "H-Hey, Baby," he answered, sniffling and wiping his cheek. "Are you okay? Is everything alright?" he asked softly, voice cracking a little. He glanced over at Xaldin to make sure he was still alright. "...I miss you so much," he whispered softly, body trembling a bit.
Zexion looked at Demyx and shrugged a bit, leaning against the blond as his arms wrapped around him. "I have no idea...but we should probably turn the TV off in case whatever it was comes..." he trailed off as he looked at the television, eyes wide. It was the story again. "D-Dem..," he squeaked. "I think I figured it out..." He pointed a slightly shaky finger at the screen showing a bloody scene outside the apartments.

Roxas took in a shaky breath at the sound of Axel. Hearing his voice was something so comforting, Roxas couldn't even describe the waves of just peace that hit him. It wasn't that he wanted Xaldin dead, he just wanted Axel to be okay more. "I-I seen something on the tv... there is so much blood, Axel... Are you okay? How is Xaldin? w-what happen?" Roxas asked cautiously seeing the news report come back on.. It was so spine-chilling.
Demyx looked to the television screen and felt all the blood rush to his head. He couldn't even hear what the woman was saying. He could see her mouth moving, but nothing passed into his ears. Demyx tried to swallow the feeling as it drown him in worry, but before he could completely do so, he become too lightheaded. His sea-foam green eyes rolled back in his head and his eye lids slide closed.. And with that Demyx fainted into Zexion and then the floor. Roxas was entranced by the new report again and Axel's voice, he didn't even notice.

"I'm fine, Baby. It's on the news..? Of course it is... When I got there, I texted you guys, then I cut Xaldin free. Leon had apparently sneak-attacked him while he was asleep. We were getting our stuff together to get out of here, and I was trying to explain to Xaldin about why Demyx had called in the first place, and he freaked out on me and ran out after smashing Dem's sitar... Apparently people were guarding the place, and they got Xal... I cut 'em all down, and when I got to Xaldin, he had a bullet in his chest. I only got grazed in the arm and a bullet in my thigh. Xaldin just got back from surgery, and he's gonna be fine... I would have called earlier, but I wanted to wait until I knew for sure Xaldin would be alright.
"Demyx!" Zexion squeaked, kneeling down beside him and pulling him into his arms. He hugged him tightly. "Rox, what's going on? What happened?" asked Axel worriedly, agitated that he couldn't do anything to help.

Roxas startled a little to Zexion's yelp. ".. D-Demyx just fainted...." Roxas whispered a little. Everything was becoming too unreal, Roxas didn't understand it. When he originally ran away, he thought things would be so much easier. The worse thing that could possibly happen was he would be sent home like all his other attempts to run away. Now.... Now everything was so screwed up and Roxas didn't know what to do. Demyx was waayy past freaking out. Axel and Xaldin were in the hospital. Zexion seemed like his life was in shambles. They didn't even know the condition of Marluxia or Larxene or Cloud... Tears started to pour from Roxas's face. "Axel... why is this all so hard... maybe I should have never runaway in the first place..." Roxas sobbed slightly looking over at Demyx who was pretty much out cold as Zexion held him.

"No, Baby, please don't say that... It'll get better, I promise. It may get worse before it gets better, but it'll be okay soon enough. If you hadn't run away, I wouldn't have met you, and my life would be s**t. Zexion's life would still be s**t. Yes, everything's ******** up right now, but I would have met Marluxia anyway, and he would have helped me rescue Demyx and Cloud and Larxene if you hadn't come here. We'd still be in this situation with or without meeting you. This is all Leon's fault, not yours or anyone but his. Okay?" he tried to reassure him, desperately trying to let him know it wasn't his fault. "You just, I guess, showed up with bad timing... I'm so sorry you're caught up in all of this..."

Roxas's strength seemed to be capsizing under all the pressure of the situation. He wasn't ready for this world that he fell down the rabbit hole into. Nothing made sense to him here. If Roxas had grown up here, things would have been different. Roxas would know how to shoot a gun, and he would probably been on some kind of hardcore drug. He might even be in juvie already. He would no what it was like to be completely hammered beyond the point of remembering who ultimately controlled his life or even what he would do with his life if he did control it himself. The system would be just as faulty for him as it was for every other kid growing up in this rotting hellhole. He would fall through the same crack every single child and teen falls into in this decaying waste of a city.... His life would be bleak and practically hopeless, so he would join a gang to find brothers who semi-cared about him. Then after years of knocking crack whores up and getting shot at by rivals, Roxas would end his life with the very gun he spent all those years defending his life with. He would fade from existence and no one would care. No one would cry. No one would ever even know he was gone probably.... He would just be another cliched death toll count of those who died "Too soon, Too young."
"A-Axel.... I-I just... D-Don't t-think I can d-do this.... N-Not w-w-with you in the h-h-hospital... W-w-we are just s-s-siting d-ducks here... H-H-He is g-going to find us. A-And t-then... Then he going t-t-to make us s-so miserable and u-untouchable.. It'll all p-pointless to t-try.." Roxas whispered looking to Zexion, who had moved Demyx to the couch and walked over to him to try and comfort him. Zexion was a good person and he probably knew how to hold his own, but if they were going to be able to continuing eating someone was going to have to fetch food... And if they stayed locked up for long enough someone was going to have to start pulling in more income. Zexion had a job, that he could just give up on because they would be there alone all day. The group just couldn't afford the income lost. No one of them really had the money to spare if they were really saving up to leave this place....
But on the other hand that would in fact mean that it would be just Demyx and Roxas here at the apartment. If something happened, they might not actually have a fair chance of escaping. If no one was there to stop Leon and their own defense wasn't enough, the two blondes would be gone without a trace and heavily guarded by Leon... Not to mention, Leon tortured them into telling where the other two were. Then to top it off, he would probably force feed them drugs until they were so addicted they couldn't leave him even if they wanted.....
Roxas, at that point, was all too sure if Axel really was going to be incapacitated in the hospital with Xaldin... They were screwed...

"Roxas, Baby..," he said softly, voice cracking. "I-I'll get us out of this, okay? And it's not pointless to try. It's pointless to sit there and not try to do anything to help those that we love. We will get out of this, Roxas. It's gonna be a rough ride, but we'll get out of this. I swear to you we'll be alright. Just, please don't give up. I need you to stay strong for me. Please. If you give up, there's less of a chance that we'll make it through. And, Baby, you're one of the best things that have happened to me in all my shitty years. I need you to stay strong. Cry your heart out if you need to, but don't give up. Please," he told the blond desperately. Tears streaked his cheeks. "A-And let th-them know what happened and that we're alright...we'll just be in the hospital a few days until I know Xaldin's absolutely fine. I...I might have to go out alone until I know he can get up and go somewhere without risk but I also may just stay here for a while. I don't know. I really don't. Just...keep in mind that I'm gonna be fine, okay? We're gonna be fine. All of us. I'll call you every day if I can. Every chance I get. I swear, Baby. Just keep strong and help take care of Dem for me, okay? Please?"

Roxas took a few deep breaths listening to Axel try and comfort him over the phone. It wasn't the same as Axel being there to hold him... Axel's arms couldn't wrap around his torso and hold what was left of his life together from a hospital room or in some hide-out apartment. Maybe it was just inevitable, but Roxas had reached his breaking point. Maybe he didn't realize it at that moment, but he could only do one of two options. He could just give up and just let all this fall. Or, He could grow hard to it all. He could no longer continue on his path without deciding whether he was going to stay that helpless child or if he was going to grow up and grow cold to all the pain around him. "O-Okay, Axel.... I'll take care of Demyx, and I-I'll stay strong... just please... hurry back to me.... I-I better go for right now.. I think Zexion needs me to help with Demyx..." Roxas said softly having chosen his new path. The blonde then said his goodbyes to Axel and hung up. It was for the best that Roxas become stronger for everyone. Innocence had no place in a city like this anyway...
-----one month later------
"Demyx? Are you awake?" Roxas called into the apartment as he walked in the darken living room. His tired blue eyes scanned through the dark looking for the digital clock. It painfully read 1:34am. He was out later than he planned to be again. Demyx was probably mad at him again. He cautiously continued to move further into the room as he took off the hood of his jacket and emptied his pockets down unto the coffee table. He was just about to assume that Demyx was asleep when he heard some shuffling from the back room. "...Demyx?" Roxas called again this time a little louder and with a bit of worried. They hadn't really had too many scares over the past month, but Roxas was always on guard for something bad to pop-up.
"Is Zexion home, too?" Demyx called back tiredly as he stumbled out the room and flipped on the hallway light. Roxas hissed a little at the light. The dim streetlights were nothing to compare with the sharp impact of the lights in the apartment being turned on. "No, Zexion has the shift until 4am, sorry sweetie... I got you a surprise though.... That's why I was late actually." Roxas said softly before picking up the suckers off the table. They were Demyx's favorite, but you could only get them at a grocery store an hour walk from the apartment, and since Zexion had to work the furthest out, he took the car. "Ohhh, Roxy!" Demyx cheered happily running up to him and hugging him. "Shhh, shhh, shh, the neighbors are going to hear you yelling." Roxas reminded him before backing out of the hug and walking over to the door and locking the bolt lock back and then the regular door lock. "How much sleep have you gotten?" Roxas asked softly making sure that Demyx wasn't staying up all night waiting for them to get back. Demyx was the only one that stayed home and worked, but Roxas still worried about his health. Zexion was the only one that could even maybe go to the hospital or clinic if they got sick or hurt. "hmmm, what time is it now? I fell asleep at like eleven-thirty." Demyx said back looking at the clock. "Well then back to bed with you, you can have the suckers tomorrow." Roxas motherly stated back before Demyx could say anything else. "awww... will you come lay with me..?... you know it's hard for me to sleep alone..." Demyx asked after watching Roxas start to take off his jackets. "Sure, Demyx. You go lay down and I'll join you after I get a quick shower." Roxas told him softly as he started towards the back room. "Thank you, Roxas, you are the best," Demyx said following the smaller blond into the back room.
It was hard to explain, but Roxas didn't feel like he was really living anymore. He was just existing, making it through each day until the painful next day. Roxas always wished it would get better, but it didn't seem hopeful. Zexion's job could barely get him through the week, so he had to take on a second job, and Roxas went to work as well. It was dangerous, but Roxas was careful enough about using his cousin's name instead of his real name, and no one knew him here so they didn't question his false identity. He made sure to always request to work in the back of the drugstore he worked at, so no one ever really saw him. Axel had been released from the hospital, but Xaldin would be in for another two weeks, and he was lucky with his injuries to get that. He still would be limited after he got out from that, too. Roxas hadn't even talked to Axel in a few days, though. Axel had thought he was being followed so he had to mash his phone and sweep his apartment for any signs they had been in the place. The redhead told Roxas he would call if he could get another phone, but it might take some time... Money was tight since they were all saving up to escape. The only good thing that had happened was they had heard from Marluxia, and the others were fine so far.
As the small blonde laid down for the night with Demyx hugging him for comfort, the only thing he wanted was to hear Axel's voice, but he knew he couldn't have what he wanted... not anymore...
