~Respectively Snipped~

A Buddhist Monk lives near our public library and I always see him there, getting books, smiling.

He makes me smile.

Anyway, sorry for that random tidbit. Welcome! I hope you didn't wait long to be accepted... sweatdrop

I go by Molecular Philosopher in Gaia. In the real world, my name is Natalie. I'm trying to keep the two separate because I find that I write better if I feel anonymous. So you can check out my website ITRW if you like, in which I keep my posts (at least stylistically) formal and neutral. In Gaia, I want to eschew the restraints placed on me by the institution(s) under which my more public writing feels confined. In other words, I don't want to hold back. Here, I hope to have very casual conversation about what I love: namely, Continental Philosophy. (I'm afraid I have little to say about analytic philosophy after the eighteenth century [my area of formal training], with perhaps the exception of Wittgenstein).

My philosophical interestes include Hegel, Nietzsche, Bataille, Blanchot, Judith Butler, Michel Foucault, Gilles Delezue/Felix Guattari, etc.

Feel free to break loose! Footloose -dances- *ahem*

Erm, yes, you're quite welcome to ignore said public restraints! I think I understand what you're getting at, though I tend to be a lot less restrained toward the public of my small town than they'd like...

My internet alias is slowverdose, a tag I've been using since I was 14. It's kind of an inside joke between me and some of my friends about the use of hallucinogenics while editing some video clips of animals killing each other to make an experimental art film. My life is pretty fast paced, I never seem to have enough time to do everything that I want to. I'm 19 years old now, and my name is Bryan. I'm (gasp) male, and I'm in my first year of college and I am actively trying to learn about everything that even remotely interests me. I am primarily buddhist because the whole concept of mindfulness calms down my ADD, although I don't personally believe in reincarnation. My favorite philosophers are are Nietzsche and Krishnamurti. I can be friendly in most instances, but idiocy is one of my pet peeves. I like to play guitar and write my own music and songs, and I am in the process of acquiring some recording eqipment so I can host some of my music on the internet. It's mostly indie/folk music with different overtones. Sometimes it sounds dark, sometimes jazzy. I'm into almost every kind of music (no ganster rap, no boy bands, no American Idol-esque pop, and NO POLKA EVER) and my favorite band is Sonic Youth. I'm looking forward to having discussions with some of the more serious minded people here.

Quick question, mi dear: Ever read Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw? I've noticed several times that Nietzsche is mentioned amongst the text.

And A Formal Welcome To You! I agree, there's too much to learn and not enough time to discover it all. I was sitting in the library reading Smoke & Mirros by Neil Gaiman when I gasped, realizing I'd probably never catch up on all of the books I plan to read. New ones are popping out like the reproduction rate of rodents and there are still so many old novels to read...Not to mention comics, movies, bands, concerts, etc.

I need to be more than one person.

Hope your doing well your freshmen year of College. I get to stick that through next year. =d

Hello! My name is Mary.. I go by Kagerou most of the time online.
I've been out of college and working for two years. My degree is a BFA as an Illustration major... though my work is more Graphic Design.

I'm from Kentucky, but moved to Florida for collage... and stayed. It's been some interesting weather. Though I was raised Catholic, went 12 grades of Catholic school... I'm basically an atheist.
In the last year, I've been studying a lot of Buddhism, and have adopted that as my religion... particularly the Mahayana sect of Zen. It just kind of turned out that I had a personal philosophy that matched very well to Buddhism... and I dig multi-cultural stuff too. So why not.

Aside from Eastern philosophy, I'm a science junkie. Nature just fascinates me to no end.. from the microscope bugs to the galaxies and beyond.
Politically, I'm old-school liberal... and that's generally my attitude to a lot of things. Like a lot of the Western philosophers from the Age of Enlightenment, I value reason nothing else. heart

Might I suggest to you the play Thom Paine? It has a bit of exitentialism mixed into it. If you're into the theater scene, if you ever happen to find it playing somewhere near, I recommend you grab a seat. If not, the screenplay is just as effective. Being a one person show, it's easy to just read it.

Soccer, play soccer! One of my favorite sports, and having lived in Kentucky for quite sometime, it's what my community thrives on. Soccer this, soccer that. I got tired of it briefly and went through a swimming stint, but I still love soccer. =d

And welcome! biggrin

oh nice thing, In my city foot-ball was the practiced the most too! well in my city this is mainly because it is very affordable since you can just grab a Coke can and start kicking xp I played it a lot, but I also played base-ball a lot because base-ball is very liked by my family and we played it on sundays and/or saturdays, and it was a way of having fun everyone together(man and women equally)

oh and I forgot to add that I don't really Tolerate hip-hop, rap(with the exception of Will Smith) and pop because the lyrics in most of those genres revolve around lives of drugs, disrespectful and irresponsible sex, their fast cars and hoes and everyone going crazy and wasting what could be more trascendent lives in the excitement of such living...

oh and my nickname! hehe it is one funny thing that has changed since I play games on internet... it comes from the name of my character DurinIII(a dwarf lord from Lord of the Rings) for PristonTale, where after a couple months my closest friends called me simply "Dur", name I took since I liked how simple and unique it was, after sometime a friend of mine named Astridz here on gaia told me she draw for an internet media community called DeviantArt and I like her drawings quite much, so I decided to sign up so I could comment on her art, but this time I decided I would not call myself Dur but rather durrypoo(which another friend of mine called me one day he was in a crazy mood calling everyone "name"ypoo)... *whew* I write long stuff lol whee

one last thing, thanks for the suggestion, I'll try to find the book since I'm not very fanatic of theater, though I think if I saw something I liked I would try to find more plays I could like razz

Oh, Deviantart! I love that place, I myself have an account there.

And as for your musical choices, I agree. I can hardly stand hip-hop, rap or pop. Though, of course, there's the exceptions: I like Aesop Rock's song "No Regrets". It's about an artist, named Lucy, who spent her entire life drawing everything she thought of. I love it. That's the only example I can call up right now, but there are others.

Hello, I'm Viscount. On Gaia, I seem to go by either Gun or Vis, depending on when the individual met me(username switch). Real life? My first name is an anagram of romance, and I typically go by my middlename "David." I was born in Monterey, CA, currently live in a suburb of Cleveland, OH, and have been to 34 states in the union(about 8 I've resided in) as well as a handful of European countries.

I'm currently earning a two year degree with the intention of transferring to a nearby University to earn a degree(possibly) in theological studies and philosophy. I say possibly because I'm incredibly uncertain. I aspire to be a science fiction writer as well as a professor of theologic philosophy, the former of which currently seems a bit more probable. xp My favorite philosophers include Arthur Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, St. Thomas Aquinas, the Greek Three (Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato), and Soren Kierkegaard. My beliefs are...well, complicated, and very hard to net by saying "I'm sorta' like this guy, but also a bit of that guy..." But suffice to say I'm very far leftist and, on that note, particularly above average in political interest. I originally wanted to be a politician, but thought was more appealing.

I'll dabble in any art style, presented the opportunity, but I'll only lay claim to two music styles: comedy(namely parody) and rock. Yeah, can I be any more cliche?

Enough out of me. I look forward to discussions in the near future -- for the time being, I think I have a few books to study. sweatdrop Finals...
