The searing feeling was done. It was gone. Cesc's wings went from gold-cracked black back to their normal, smaller pink. He flapped them once, twice against his back and attempted a smile at the fairy. He was happy to see her because of what it meant -- although he was less than happy with how cavalier her attitude was.
Oh, well. Maybe they were supposed to be adopting a similar attitude, themselves?
"Thanks again for your help," he said. "And for the candy. Seems like we're getting a lot more tricks than treats."
He started to the left, following her advice.

. . .MONSTER ENCOUNTER
Stop.
You hear a rustle in the vines.
Something hears you speaking from beyond the veil of fog. . . .

Ian had barely been able to suck in a breath through all the pain, but then it was suddenly gone. He sighed heavily, staring up from where he'd lain down on the ground. He blinked his eyes a little, adjusting, before aiming a frown at the fairy before she disappeared. He wasn't exactly up for her snark, especially after all that.
He got to his feet and brushed his arm off, now singed bare of half his sleeve. He bent to tiredly pick up his fire poker from where he'd thrown it, following Cesc around the corner to the left.
But just as soon as they'd started again, they had to stop. Yet another monster had appeared: another demon. Ian let out a heavy sigh and glanced at Cesc and Justin, reading himself for a fight. He lunged at the demon, but slipped on a wet patch of grass and barely managed to nick the demon at all.

Cesc, for a brief moment, wondered if the fairy had even SLIGHTLY meant to help them with her advice. He knew the general rule for mazes was to stick to the left, but when a maze had a mind of its own, that rule was slightly less encouraging.
Instead of a wider path, they found a demon.
Great.
As he was behind Ian, Rhedefre had all the opportunity to witness the man slipping, and used the jostled movement to his advantage. As Ian went down, Cesc went over and above him, cleaving into the wolf's broad side with his still-hot scimitar.

Before he could get his hands on that fairy, she was gone and another monster was taking her place. Justin charged blindly in, swinging his bat like the demon was a pinata and damn, he needed some candy.

. . . The demon hound roars and swipes as the Sigel's attack. Though the scimitar is enough to anger the she-wolf, Justin manages to hit it with his baseball bat as it lunges forward.
With another howl and claws extended, it skips back and lunges toward the most hapless of the group: Ian.

The demon swiped outwards, claws glittering even through the slick fog. She surged forward jaws snapping around Ian. With an inarticulate cry, Justin leapt forward, baseball bat swinging. The thud of wood meeting skull reverberated up into his brain, rattling out all thought or rationality. He swung again. And again. And finally, he flipped the bat, shoving one end into the she-wolf's burning eyes. It squelched sickeningly, the noise louder than her yowls. Justin pushed, and pushed, and felt the eye pop. And she went down.

(( Not rolling because Justin brought the house down - let me know if I still need to roll regardless! ))
Ian had known he'd be a sitting duck as soon as he fell. Not only did his knee now hurt from landing on it, but the damned demon managed to snap its fanged jaws around his shoulder and get a few good scratches in for good measure. The florist managed to roll out of the way as Justin charged back in, however.
As the demon died and faded away, Ian sat up and sighed heavily, pushing a dirty hand through his hair. He felt incredibly useless, stupid; he shouldn't have even volunteered for this stupid maze. He was really only bringing Cesc and Justin down, after all.

((same deal here!))
It had become apparent to Cesc through the past few battles that Ian was... well... maybe not the most battle-ready of the humans that might have gone into the maze.
Why would he be? Ian seemed like a nice, normal sort of guy. Justin seemed to at least be comfortable with the whole situation after the first run-in with the giant, but Ian hadn't yet found his groove. Cesc noticed (with some alarm) that he had been alright -- why had he been alright?
He was getting too used to these situations...
Cesc shook his head as he went forward, over Justin and the fast-fading demon, to where Ian was sitting. He was glad for Ian. Glad he wasn't battle-ready. He shouldn't need to be, even for a game.
"Are you alright? She'll be here to heal you in a moment. I am sorry I just went over you -- shouldn't have let that thing get a shot at you."

. . . The demon lets out one more aggravated howl until it dissipates to shadow. The fairy doesn't show up this time, but strangely, Ian's wounds seem to be completely healed after a brief glint of green glitter surrounds him.
"s**t, I didn't mean t'make y'all run into another one this quick! I swear! I swear! Don'thurtme!" the fairy yelps, her voice distant and echoing. Despite her initial anxiety, however, she seems to keel back into levelheadedness fairly quickly and laughs.
"...Not that you can get me when you can't see me, I guess! Whew."
END BATTLE
Ian's wounds are healed! . . .

[22] - Dead end
"Now you're invisible? Have you been here this entire time?" Justin swiped at the green glitter and only succeeded in nearly clipped Ian in his newly healed shoulder. Fine. He sighed and walked... in another dead end.

Ian was certainly a lot less upset about his injuries than he would have been had the fairy not been guaranteed to heal him. He didn't get a chance to respond to Rhedefre before the fairy healed him, but afterward he gave the Sigel a slightly lopsided smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. But you don't need to apologize. Someone has to make up for me failing so badly." He laughed softly at himself, standing up. He looked up at Justin, noting the other man's frustration with a slight, confused frown. Was he upset at him? Honestly, he had every right to be. Ian was pretty much useless in combat, which this whole situation revolved around. He got lucky every so often, but largely his "attacks" had been weak compared to Justin's and certainly to Cesc's.
He followed his dark-haired friend down a path of the maze, only to sigh softly when they reached yet another dead end.
