((Kay.. the preceding story about the Jersey Devil was actually a real story, but the following story is what I myself made up on the spot for the RP.))

"There has to be.. or there has to once have been. Or maybe there never was. The Dark World stories of the Jersey Devil say that he is an outcast from the real world, and was accepted by the Dark World denizons as one of their own. They say that there was a time when the Jersey Devil was trying to get back into the real world and be accepted by them, and going back proved quite dificult to him. Many say he didn't go to the real world the same way he had left from it, but had to get back through some dark wizardry. But when he got there, they were terrified of him on first sight and even shot at him. So now, he stays in the Dark World, shunning the real world that shunned him."

He paused for a moment before adding, "But when we reach the village, he is to be avoided! Do you hear me? We want to go in, get food, disguises, and weapons, and get out, as fast as we can. We don't want to have to use the weapons more than we have to."

As they continued walking, Matthew noticed the trees were getting fewer and farther apart. They were close now.

Lexi nodded silently, digesting the information. Matthew's last words didn't register at first, but when they did, her stomach growled.
Food...
She hadn't thought about food for hours, and she hadn't eaten for almost 3 days. Lexi sighed miserably and wrapped her arms around her stomach, uncomplainingly following Matthew into the unknown.

Kekekeke... Red King would have cackled out loud if he were hunting some non-human target, but these ones deserved to be treated as something a bit more. Not by too much though. So my prey believes it can outrun me by enlisting his help? He instantly guessed. He's beneath me... But wouldn't it be amusing if I persuaded him against them instead of him against me? He crouched lower to the ground behind them keeping his presence as concealed as he could considering they were quickly leaving the forest.

Of course, I'll kill him before he does them in...

Casting a spell where he stood Shadow draws a door with his finger. As he does a faint blue light follows his finger and leaves on outline where he drew. Reaching down to where the handle should be Shadow pushes open the door into a lavish chamber many miles away. Stepping through Shadow takes off his shoes and throws his cloak on the hook before closing the door. This room is fairly large with a 4 post bed big enough for a giant. It has many pillows and a very comfy blanket. In one corner of this room sleeps a large lizard-like object. It snores lazily by the fireplace which stretches the 20 feet to the roof. Shadow walks toward his writing desk on the far side of the room and sits down. There are no doors or windows into this place so he casts a ball of light into the air for light. Writing down a quick note to his contact in the town Shadow pulls out his grimoire and sends it to the man by way of magic. His work done for the day Shadow goes toward his bed for some much needed rest.

Matthew and Lexi stepped into the outskirts of town. The ground was made of cobblestone, and the huts of thick straw. A few large buildings were made of stone.

There were all types of creatures wandering the streets. Some were big, some small, some walked on two legs, some on four. A little further along, Matthew and Lexi entered an outdoor vendors' market. Stands were set up everywhere, with anything from food to charms to weaponry for sale.

Matthew noticed a weaponry mason's stand nearby. He looked at the gleaming weaponry and shields, and suddenly became aware of the rusted state of his own sword.

He looked at Lexi. "See anything you could use?" he asked her.

Lexi had been staring at everything around her and was startled by the question. Anything she could use....? She turned her gaze towards the weapon stand and couldn't help but to stare at the strange weapons before her.
She finally turned to look back at Matthew and shook her head, speechless for the moment. "I... uhmm I don't even think I could lift any of those... let alone use them..."

"How lucky," Red King told himself, standing upright now, though still coming up very short. "They've come straight to the market." His orb eyes scanned over the area aloofly as they stopped on smaller baubles that caught his eyes. "Ah, there they are..." He mumbled again, his voice lost in the bustling crowd.

He caught the two of them looking through the weapons, and he silently chuckled to himself. "Those toys won't do anything to me..." He laughed as he sifted his way through the market to a small weapon stand across from his prey. The table was littered with horribly crafted weapons made from ovious pieces of scrap metal. There were swords and daggers amongst other blunt weapons, but all seem crudely made, damage and rust apparent on most of the pieces. He looked up to read the sign "Rrendalf's Fine Weaponry" and chuckled to himself. His eyes slowly travelled back to the merchant's wares as he traced his fingers along a poor short sword.

"Well... aren't we grabby today, hmm?" Croaked the stumpy vendor from beneath the table. "Well if you want one, you're gonna have to cough up--" The merchant's boil covered and flabby jaw hung frozen in fear as he popped up from beneath his stand and connected the hand to the face of the infamous Red King.

"I'll be taking this..." the Scrigling man laughed as he picked up a long knife with his finger tips. "But don't worry... You won't mind..." Before anyone could blink, the merchant fell to the ground with his faceless skull frozen in shock and pain as Red King quietly wrapped the bloody skin around the knife's handle.

"I will see you shortly..." He whispered to his freshly stolen face. "And it will be marvelous..." With a flick of his wrist, he flung the bloody knife across the market square and straight towards the two humans. "That will remind them I am still here, but now I must see the Devil..."

Matthew was just about to turn and look at other stands when a damaged, bloody short sword covered in skin and flesh flew past his head and buried itself in the wood of the weapons stand. Shocked, he looked at Lexi.

"That beast followed us here!", he shouted. "Quick, we have to find someplace to hide!"

"Oh no, you don't!", shouted a rough voice. It was the weaponry mason, pulling the sword out of his stand. He shook off the human remains, unshocked. "Not after damaging my stand!" He charged at Matthew, looking to put more blood on the rusted sword.

What does he expect to do with such a short, rusted sword? pondered Matthew. It's more use to throw than to swing! "I didn't throw that sword!", he yelled out in vain.

When the mason brought down the sword, Matthew easily deflected it and knocked it out of the mason's hand. Thinking he had won, Matthew put his sword tip toward the ground. Big mistake, for they were at a weapons stand. The mason simply grabbed one of his own, finer-quality weapons, from his stand. It was a massive double-edged axe.

Before Matthew could recover and bring back up his sword, the mason had swung down his powerful axe. All Matthew could do was dodge slightly to the side, but still felt the axe blade cut him slightly on the chest.

Alerted by the pain, Matthew swung at the mason. The blows were easily deflected by the axe-wielder, and finally, Matthew's sword snapped in half under an axe blow.

Matthew quickly grabbed another sword from the stand. What a sword! If felt perfect for Matthew. The sword was balanced perfectly for him, the blade was just the right weight and length, and the hild fit well in his hand.

So, he swung the powerful blade masterfully and lopped off the mason's head. The mason's body fell limp onto the ground.

Matthew found the right scabbard for the sword and took it as well. But, Lexi was right. Everything at this stand was probably too heavy for her. "We have to get out of the open, before that monster jumps us!"
He grabbed her hand and ran, toward a lone building. Perfect, he thought.

They ran into the building. Matthew looked around. The walls were adorned with capes, and cloaks, and dresses, and shirts, and vests, and pants, and boots. It was a tailor's shop.

Red King coughed into his fist as he witheld the loud and disturbing cackle he really wanted to unleash. His targets quickly scurried into the solitary tailor shop and literally fell onto his back laughing. But even with all that went on this market square, not a soul stopped with their daily routine. Althoguh, there was a large raidus around the hysterical Red King, as no one wanted to be near him while he was laughing, fearing for their lives.

As he came back to his senses, he got up and motioned to wipe a tear from his mask's eye as if it were his face. "Those two..." He chuckled again. "Do they really think running, will help anything?" He sniffed the air as he fished one of his bloodied blade fingers under his mask and gave it a lick. His tongue immedaitely started to bleed on the sharp nails and the two bloods swirled in his mouth before the psycho swallowed the bile.

"I have alraedy tasted her blood, and now he is covered in this blood..." He pulled out his finger and wiped it gently on the hem of his cape and tore a small square from it carelessly. "No more dawdwling now. Time for the Devil..."

When Lexi entered the tailor's shop, she couldn't stop herself from staring.
I've never seen this much black clothing in one place in my entire life...
She went over to a wall almost completely covered in cloaks and began rummaging through them. After almost a minute, she finally pulled out a cloak that seemed small in comparison to the others. She pulled it over her shoulders, allowing it to settle around her. The cloak went all the way to her ankles.
I've always wanted one of these, she thought excitedly to herself, the battle from only minutes before all but forgotten.
Lexi ran down one of the aisles, leaving Matthew behind her, standing at the doorway. She found herself a small, shoulder-less, long-sleeved shirt, pants only slightly too long for her, and an extra cape and dress that she though would fit her. She then quickly adorned the shirt and pants, leaving on her skirt under them, and walked back to where she thought Matthew was.
Instead, she hit a dead-end.
"Oh... uhm... now... which way did I come from...?", she said quietly to herself.
Lexi turned around slowly and began to walk back the way she came when suddenly a monster over 3 times her size stepped in front of her.

"Are you planning on paying for those clothes!?", his voice loud, and like the rolling of thunder.
"I.. uhm... I... MATTHEW!", she screamed and ran to the right, hoping that she was going towards Matthew. Finally, she spotted him and ran behind him.

Matthew looked up at the huge monster in front of him. It looked very angry.

Matthew had expected something like this, and was prepared. He held his new sword up, and stood there glaring at the creature.

"Have you heard of the Red King?" asked Matthew of the monster. The monster suddenly changed it's countenance, and had a look of animalistic fear upon hearing the name. Matthew continued, sensing that his ploy was working. "If you don't want to run into him, I suggest you let us borrow a few garments. It's worth your life, is it not?"

The monster simply stood there, considering this for a moment. Matthew was beginning to think it didn't work, but then the monster turned around and walked away, grumbling.

Matthew turned to Lexi.
"You'd better pick up a mask or something to disguise your appearance."

With that, he went to find his own clothes. He found a dark cloak that would cover his whole body, and grabbed it. He also found a black fabric and tore off a piece to wrap around his chest wound. Having done this, he simply wore the cloak over his current pants and shirt, and pulled its hood over his head. It covered his hair.

Lexi smiled uneasily at Matthew, thankful that the monster was gone. She adjusted her cloak until it fell comfortably across her shoulders again then walked over to one of the walls. It was covered in bags. She took a small one down and neatly packed the extra clothes she'd found inside it.
There's just enough space for some food now, she thought to herself, her stomach growling once again.
She stood and put the pack on under her cloak and turned to look in the direction Matthew had gone. She didn't like being on her own anymore.

((That was so cool, Kumar!))

He carried himself at a relaxed pace, what most other people would consider fast walking. He kept his arms crossed behind his back, taking up as little space as possible, despite most people giving him a wide girth to move around in. Time for some fun... he laughed to himself, as he slowly came to a stop. "Dearie me..." he announced to the weary passers-by. "I seem to have forgotten the way to my friend's home!" For a moment, the Dark Worlders around the mad assasin were stricken in fear. As if everyone knew what he was to say next, the crowded street Red King had been traversing was now eerily empty after a quick exchange of shoving and screams.

On the ground quivered a meek little Dark Worlder. His face was fairly developed, though it still had some sort of glowing youth to it, but his frame suggested he was older than he seemed. His arms trembled as he pushed himself up from the ground after being half trampled and stared into Red King's threatening eyes.

"Do you know where the Jersey Devil lives?" He prodded the shaking man's forehead, drawing a thin line of blood. "I must pay him a visit today. Gravest matters you see..." The man only shook harder when Red King had touched him, and the Scrigling man was beginning to lose his patience. "Tell me now," he demanded, the familiar aloofness and uncaring tone missing from his voice. He fanned his claws in front of the man's now tearing eyes, as he realized he was going to die no matter how he answered.

Pulling out the ladder to his bed Shadow steps calmly up and pulls the corner of the blanket over so he can climb in. Crawling to the middle of the bed Shadow places his hands in the air in front of him and begins mutterring something in a long unknown language. As he finishes speaking a glow leaves his fingertips and seethes outward onto the walls of his domain. With his wards cast Shadow pulls the blanket up to his chin and is snoring contently as his head hits the pillow.

((Very funny, Shadow. Alright, the thread's waking up..))

Matthew heard a grumbling noise behind him, and realized it was Lexi's stomach. She looked like she'd found everything she wanted.
"Okay, we'll go find something to eat. Just give me a second." He grabbed the bag she had with her before she could stop him.

He turned to the make-shift counter and walked up to it. The store owner glared at him, but as Matthew lifted his sword, the monster just looked down. Matthew went behind the counter, much to the monster's regret, and found a large metal chest. It was locked by a simple padlock. Matthew bent down and swung his sword at it. Clang. Clang. Clang, pop. The padlock fell off in two pieces. This sword was amazing.

Matthew opened the chest and found it filled with the local currency. The monster looked alarmed, but Matthew just reminded him of what the Red King would do. He stuffed the bag with the money.

As he and Lexi left the store, they could hear the curses of the unfortunate monster. But now, they could afford food.
