Crispin yelped as he got dumped into the drink. Which was a bad idea, and he spent the next minute frantically treading water and spluttering for breath as Shaiming urged him towards calm. Okay. Okay. The portal's over there. I can do this. He could feel exhaustion burning in every muscle, but sweet adrenaline would carry him through.

He hoped.

Madison kept going, grimly. She wasn't an amazing swimmer, but she had lived a good deal of her childhood in various swimming pools. This... was nothing like a swimming pool, but at least she had the basics well in hand.

A wave splashed him in the face, blinding him as the water cascaded down the lenses of his glasses. Crispin swore again and kept going. At least the portal's glow was enough - he didn't need fine detail. Just that light.

There. With one last kick, Madison pushed herself through. Hopefully there would be something warm and comfy on the other side...

Hah. Right.

The glow loomed large through the water. The exhaustion was starting to overwhelm adrenaline, and Crispin's arms felt leaden - but he had just enough to make it through. Thank god.

The chaos had ended, for a moment. The creature was falling apart heaving hissing and slowly drawing back. He didn't notice the sounds of the failing ship, Roland only had eyes for the monster they where battling.

When it's heart was finally revealed he raised Sylvia up, ready to strike, to end what they had started, but in a moment it was already done. Caelius in all his power and madness had removed the heart.

That was when the screaming took over.

< SYLVIA STOP STOP IT ALREADY! >

<< NO I DON'T WANT TO GO DOWN THERE I DON'T WANT TOO, WE CAN'T ROLAND DON'T DO THIS! >>

Her whining cries had been growing with each crack of the ship, the sudden night sky had sent her in a mad panic her voice reaching new levels of high volume in his mind, for a moment he went to argue and that was when the dark waters rushed up to meet him, the rush and shock of the cold knocking his thoughts aside and silencing. Both him and Sylvia grew silent as the darkness took over, for a moment Roland blacked out.

It was the light of the portal opening that brought him back at first. Mouth opened, water rushed in. Sylvia screamed in terror again. Hands grabbed at the water, at something, at nothing but plates of food. Those had been real, the boat had not. It left nothing to hold onto.

Confusion. Panic. Roland felt what his weapon was going through, a sudden hyperventilation sensation wrecking his brain with agony and sound as she lost all control over herself. Slowly he pulled towards the dark sky and the faint stars above dragging himself through the water to get back to the air.

Breath, air, now.

Roland sucked down a lung full of the precious resource as large wave started to lift his form, higher and higher Roland went, Sylvia whimpering as they rose.

<< The waves.. they pick you up, tumble tumble, down it's dark Roland I'm scared, Roland help me please I don't want to, I don't want to go back down there. >>

Roland couldn't think straight, rather the only thought he could muster was get to the portal; don't drown.

The wave lifted higher and higher, but the tip was suddenly above him, the crest rolling over towards him closer and closer. Then it came, the cold rush of darkness shoving him back down tumbling him forward and over.

Sylvia was crying again, screaming to wake up to get her away from the dark water. The noise kept him conscious in a twisted painful way. It was hard to pass out when a banshee was screaming in your head.

Roland reached forward, dragging himself towards the shimmering light in the distance, the portal still far away, enough that he might not make it. What happened if he didn't?

The portal was so close, his ears felt like they where bleeding. Actually, they where, Sylvia was ripping him apart internally just as much as the waves where killing him by crushing the air from his lunges.

He clawed at the water, he knew how to swim, but exhaustion and pain caused him to swim like a flailing child. Clawing and scraping at the water, not a single stroke looking proper like he had when he swam normally.

Panic had a habit of ruining poise and form.

He was there reaching for the light, Sylvia nothing more now then a softly whining sound in the back of his mind retreated to the corners and trying to hide as the light washed over them.

Home.

The thought almost made him laugh, he sounded like one of them for a moment before he vanished through the portal.

Everything became a dreamy blur. He felt the pain of waves pushing him around, the cruel and stinging pain of cold as the ocean tried to swallow him up. For a while, he didn't even realize someone was saving his life. In fact, he slipped in and out of consciousness throughout the ordeal, never getting a look at who it was. All he felt was cold and darkness swallow him over and over; the tingle and itch of bugs never truly washing away despite the violent waves.

Nevada hit the ocean hard, kicking her legs up. No way in hell was she going to stick it out here long.

When the next wave hit, Nevada dove under, kicking till she was under the pull of the ocean before spouting back up. It was starting to he heavy, the water and the more she beat against the waves, the more tired she got.

When she hit the raft, she used whatever strength she had and pulled herself up, rolling on to it. She'd thank god later when she made it back to her home.

Spiders and spines and strange ghosts... followed by hearts (or whatever that was) and the world crumbling. Sherry was doing what she could to process the events as the ship itself broke apart, leaving them in the night and dropping them in the sea.

Sherry hit the water a lot harder than she'd thought possible. Maybe it was just the shock of it all. Maybe it was the waves. She tasted sea and saw nothing. She felt herself roll with the water, tumbling once before her head broke the surface. She gasped and coughed, barely having enough time to fill her lungs before the ocean sent her under again. She felt very alone in those moments.

When she resurfaced again, the light of the portal caught her eye. Ok. That way. She could swim that way. It was something in the darkness, something to strive for.

It was a bit more difficult than she thought it would be. The waves seemed very intent on keeping her from that blue light. It was silly to think the ocean would be against her, but it certainly felt like it when another wave pushed her down.

She could hear voices. She knew she wasn't alone in the water. But it was dark, and that darkness made it hard to see. She really hoped everyone she heard was alright.

The last few lengths weren't too terrible, something about being so close to home made it better, or at least made it seem better. The light from the portal was nothing short of comfort.

She would linger a bit before going through, staring back at the darkness over the ocean. She had to trust everyone was safe. Hope.
