Ugh. Video games are NOT the problem, here. If people honestly believed vid games are the problem, then we might as well start pointing fingers at everything else! Media in general. SOCIETY. The fact that some people are just so imbalanced that they decide it's ok to shoot people. What about the fact that man created guns? Weapons for that matter? We going to start saying they MADE people stab each other, shoot each other, maim each other? Are we going to start blaming the Bible, too? There's a lot of ideas and violence in THAT particular book! This is ridiculous.
Unless there's some sort of virus inherent in video games impregnating the higher-learning functions of humans with the NEED to kill, this argument is BS.
The problem isn't with the 'material' present, it's how each individual PERSON, and each unique CIRCUMSTANCE, all co-mingle and deal with LIFE. Some people can't deal and do something stupid. Sometimes that 'something stupid' is killing 32 people, and then yourself.
If video games was REALLY the problem, then shouldn't there be A WAR happening between MILLIONS of people? Oh wait, there is. Are going to blame THAT on video games too? "George Bush has been playing Counterstrike too often and decided to send the US Army to Iraq." "Studies show Saddam Hussein was playing GTA too much." "al'Queda trains by playing Tom Clancy games."
This is insane. I blame parents who can't deal with the fact they didn't pay enough attention. I blame friends who put the blame on something else when they feel guilty for not being there. I blame Jack Thompson who so desperately needs something to do that he's started a war against video games.

Heh, you can't go a week nowadays without hearing about games being blamed for something in America. I'm so glad we get none of that here.

They used to do the same thing with TV in the use until Columbine occured. From then on, almost all violence comes from games of course. Isn't Jack Thompson trying to ban videogames altogether?
Just a matter of time before they ban books. Look at Treasure Island. *SPOILER* Near the end, the kid kills about 5 people if I remember right, even shooting one man twice at close range while laughing his a** off.
Don't get me started on murder mysteries. You have no idea how often that makes me want to go out and butcher someone to see if someone can solve the mystery.
Dracula. Glorifying the undead. Screams satanic far more to me than AD&D. Pass the chicken and my dagger please. Save the goat for the new moon.

i didn't say it was the sole reason, or the reason why it's there all the time.. i just said i sometimes think it helps, not always just sometimes.. i think the same for movies too.. i just went to see disturbia, and i thought to myself and then shared with my friends.. now that's gonna give someone some ideas on how to kill.. but i don't think it's the sole reason for people behaving the way.. i think they already have issues, i think they sometimes see things tv, games, news, it doesn't matter and it just gives them some ideas sometimes.. or makes them want attention..

Woo hoo, I have internet again! As for Jack Thomson, he's got some crazy ideas on video games. At one point he tried to claim that The Sims 2 promoted child pornography. gonk But some school districts here in the US do ban books; I know two popular ones are Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan, because they glorify drug use. That's the excuse I was given, anyways. I don't know if they did or not but at one point there were some schools talking about banning Harry Potter because it "promotes witchcraft." My favorite book, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden is also banned in a lot of school districts because *spoiler* the girl in it tries to commit suicide. Granted that book is pretty intense and tackles some strong issues, but I don't think it should be banned because of that. One school I went to even had Issac Asimov banned! Why?! They wouldn't give a reason, either, it was just because. gonk
