ClaireTheGreat Lamsey ClaireTheGreat oh man, before i was allowed to post in here, i spent all of last night going through all eighty something pages of this thread laughing till i peed myself a little. o.o anyway, here is something i created using teh ever magical photoshop: oh, 4kids, you exist to make me laugh. xDD they make us all laugh....and cry sometimes too when they completely ruin a series... yes, that too. they make me cry more than they make me laugh....;___; there are MILLIONS of these shots on a website somewhere, and i have to admit, they do a VERY good job of editing out violence. o.o I know you think they would be lazy and just leave it (at least thats what I would do...)

ClaireTheGreat Hiaki Mahaado and now, we must pretend to run before we actually have to. HENCH MEN WARM UP! XD OR stand really still and do anything so they dont have to edit out the guns for every single frame....XD I envy the men and women working on the graphics for the dub. Sure they're editing out things I wouldn't mind seeing but they're frickin gods when it comes down to it. Of course they cant go and change the poses of the people but all the little stuff they flawlessly take out makes me drool for my future career.

This made me sick....SICK!! >.< I'm not quite sure what to make of this one....blue fire??

Hmm, I have to say, 4Kids may be fairly skilled at what they do, but I don't think they're as great as they could be. I mean, alot of the stuff they edit--most of it even, isn't really too noticeable. The grafiti? I would've never noticed. Nekkid monsters? Not for the most part, no.
But some of the things just plain stand out. Whenever they edit clothing (or lack there of) I think that they do a rather crapulent job on it, actually. I mean, it's just... noticeable. Like in the scene, with Noa towards the end of that arc. He's glowy and nekkid in the Japanese one, but in the dub, he has on some glowy clothe-type substance. This is all fine, except that the glow-shirt Noa was wearing was v-necked, when he was previouisly wearing a turtle-necked type shirt. Could it have been that hard really to get the collar of his shirt right? Part of the reason I think we don't notice too much of it though, is because they change some things that really, I don't see why they should be changed. At the end of Battle City, they go off into the kitchen (and see Bakura eating a bananna, and drinking some KC milk, I'm sure you know the scene! whee ). What was weird about this was that originally, the sign on the door read "Kitchen Room" and they got rid of the words and replaced it with a picture of a plate, fork and knife. What's so threatening about the word "Kitchen Room" I'll never know...
I've very recently discovered how much of the script they change too! I mean, not cause the original script is bad or anything.. I think it's cause the original is more realistic and serious. I was reading over the differences in dialogue, and the Japanese one sounds SOOO much less corny. I guess they change it though, for the effect of little kids. You know they can't really grasp that deep, meaningful stuff like we can. sweatdrop
And some of it is just.. noticable because it looks fishy. Most of it isn't ( I think, anyway) identifiable the first time you watch it, but if you watch it another time or so, it sticks out more. But about things looking fishy---that monster in the pic you posted, ClaireTheGreat, with the blue fire on it's back? I noticed that the first time I saw it. It was obvious that the fire had been edited, it just looked funny you know? I wasn't sure why though. I had figured that the monster might've had, like, knifes, or used needles sticking out of it's back or something... I mean, why would you edit the color of fire? I just don't get it...
Anyway, they do an acceptable job with what they do, and even if some of it is noticeable, the majority of it seem to be things that most people'd look over anyway... eh, I guess it's all fine as long as the sacks of money---er, children don't notice, right? Hahahah. ((Sorry, monster post.))

yea some of the stuff they edit is pointless....I've seen sences where writing on signs should be but they edit it out, what's the point? and for changing 'kitchen room' to signs doesn't make too much sense butthere are a few younger kids who watch and might not be able to read...(probably not ture but at least it's kind of an answer) The japanese version probably has less to do with the card game...i think that 4kids made everything a card game so everyone will buy the cards, and they don't even say that they will die...they'll just go to the shadow releam. (you know when Seto and Yami are fighting Lumus and Umbra they fall into the shadow releam instead of to thir death, it would be a little more interesting with the death part) ANd adding clothes to the monsters is pointless, if you look at a cunch of other animes there are lots of 'bad' things for kids to see. Anyways they still do a good job of editing it though....I just wish they would air both versions you know like with the japanese version a little later at night then you wouldn't have to wait for the dvd and spend $100 on the series.
I should stop now.... sweatdrop

I think the reason they edit out the words on things is because they probobly translate things from english to french or german, so i guess they dont wanna have to bother to translate them into every language.... sweatdrop so they leave it blank. I made some more, they REALLY dislike Mai Valentine, Uber slut extrordinare! why......bother to lenghten her skirt??? >.< And i can see why they edited the boobs, but it looks so...bad! scream EDIT: I forgot to link to the website, It's Cody's, have a look through it, and worship him for his greatness!!! mrgreen http://www.ratandfox.net/YuGiOh/index.php
