Serendipiti Koukon_Tenshi Serendipiti Koukon_Tenshi Does anyone know the true purpose of Daylight Savings? I think it has to do with farmers needing more daylight to work in the fields longer. I may go look it up if I have time. wikipedia.com One of the major reasons given for observing DST in the United States is energy conservation. *shrugs* smile

SugarBeat_Angel Koukon_Tenshi Does anyone know the true purpose of Daylight Savings? I know why. It is stupid really that we even keep it around anymore, but you know us Americans... I believe it was Ben Franklin that decided we need to make it get 'darker faster' in winter to preserve candle wax in the summer for winter and read by firelight in the winter. Or something like that...

Zetan Koukon_Tenshi Zetan I'll think about it. Maybe low-end SIN value. Maybe. I have more confidence in SIN because of the lack of question marks (abundant in GEN) and because SIN posts links to examples of current reasons for their prices. GEN just basically tells you to trust them.

Seishin-chan Let's see if I can remember this right: it did start with the farmerss needing more daylight, but the bigger reason is to make up for lost time... just like there's an extra day in February every 4 years... there are actually more than 365 days... Daylight Savings time and having a leap year both help in equaling out time differences (a bit to do with the tilt of the Earth, but more of our location in the system and the shape of our orbit around Sol)........ man. I can't believe I remember this stuff... I took Astronomy/Meteorology last year and we learned this stuff... I'm an astronomy geek sweatdrop
So do you think we still need it?
