Peter frowned. "Well. I'm not unhappy at all. Are...you?" he asked, rather timidly. He was on the verge of plugging his ears and humming loudly.

"I'm..." Jess sighed. "No, I'm not unhappy. I'm really, really glad." She gave him a gentle kiss and stood up. "I have to use the lavatory, I'll be right back." She exited the compartment and walked down the hall a little ways, entering another empty section and seating down on the seat to have a good cry.

Peter frowned again, the line between his eyebrows only becoming more marked. He followed Jess out and swallowed when he saw the first tears begin to fall. "Glad my arse," he told her, sitting down and wrapping his arms around her.

Jess sniffled and looked up at him, pulling away as he tried to embrace her. "Don't try to help. I know you must be mad at me for not wanting this."

Peter shook his head. "I--I'm not mad at you, Jess," he told her, sighing. "Surprised? Sure. Confused, absolutely. But...I'm not mad at you. Why? What's wrong with getting married? We're going to have a kid, and we both love each other, right? So there's no problem."

Jess shook her head. "It's not that. It's just..." But she couldn't really tell him about her sneaking around and lascivious ways. "I'm just so young, I wanted us to have some time together before we settled down and had children. Now I've ruined the next 17 years of our life."

Peter considered this. "Well. I wanted that too," he confessed. "Before. But I'm still not upset about this. We're going to have a child. That won't be any trouble. We just need to readjust. And accept that Guenevire Lillith Winsrow-Keyes isn't going to wait three or four years to be born."

Jess sighed. "I know. And trust me, I would die if I had to carry her that long. I just don't want you to feel like you're giving everything up just for my sake. I don't want you to do anything you don't really want to do."

Jess gave him a small smile, though she was still tearing up. "You sure are sure of yourself. Are you sure you don't care about what the other students say? Because...well because I can't say that they haven't gotten to me."

Peter, truth be told, hadn't really been bombarded with questions, and there weren't any nasty rumors going around about him. If anything, he was portrayed as a victim of sorts, or a hero. "They'll get tired of saying whatever they're saying now," he answered assuredly. "It'll get old, someone will get a horrifying haircut, and it'll be over."

"Keep being yourself," answered Peter patiently. He had taken on a type of come-what-may attitude recently. "You'll have less to worry about, and we'll write all the time, and Guenevire's going to be in good hands."

Jess ran her finger absentmindedly up and down Peter's sleeve, trying to keep herself from crying again. Thinking of the positives, Jess figured that with her in school, at least she wouldn't be responsible for taking care of the baby. And without Peter around, she wouldn't have to be secretive about who she had fun with. That thought made her smile a little as she felt a low kick in her stomach.
