Paul, having almost emptied the magazine, quickly reloaded, standing up quickly and tried to think. The crap could he do against this Sage? The shield was obviously too powerful for him, and it looked like he needed something to help him; something, anything...
---
Fyrin jumped out. "Freeze him!" he ordered, and all four raised firearms, switched them to single, and squeezed the trigger several times. Ice darts slammed into the shield, freezing it solid, and rather thickly too. Paul: Condition: Green Mana: 90% Athena KR6: <42>/42/42/42/42/42/42 (Special Rounds) Glock 26: <12>/11/6/1

((Erm, you can't exactly freeze annihilation...)) ((EDIT: Ugh, he left. Erm, Venom, do we just ignore the freeze thing, respond as if it had applied properly, or wait for the edit? Well, while that is decided, I will eat and... play Crimsonland.))

(((Yeah, uh, SirBayer? You may have noticed this Sage kind of has a degree in Blowupology. You launch... well, anything at it, and the fragments of whatever you launched are being thrown at an angle tangent to the surface of the shield before it gets close enough to do much of anything. If he moved forward after having ice formed around his shield, the ice would probably begin chain-detonating against his shield. Let's just continue with the shield functioning in its appropriate manner.))

((Aww. I thought we had something.))
"Yeeeeeah...that didn't work so hot." Joe did another volley of fireballs, in random directions, then dove behind cover, panting. Maybe he did have a thought. If a Sage was attacking him because of what he was channeling, then maybe he could get it to help. Umm...excuse me? Big...strong...thing? A little help? Joe was concentrating as hard as possible, but he had no idea if it would work. He was going off what he knew of rudimentary telepathic communication from Legion.

Joe was met not with words or phrases but with ideas. A concept. A simple goal.
Get the Sage's book away from him.

Uhh...thank you? Joe dashed out from cover to where he sensed Siber. "Siber," he called quietly. "Siber! I need you to use a demon to get his book! I'm willing to bet that he doesn't know how to handle demons. I'll run distraction." Joe rolled out of cover and put his hands in front of him. Taking a deep breath, he grunted and began blasting a stream of fireballs. Sustained, it didn't break Rice's shield, but it probably distracted him and it kept Joe mostly obscured. "Hurry," he growled.

The Sage's counter attacks sliced through the fireballs. They didn't harm him or distract him much, but they definitely made it hard to see, between the light and the smoke.

Joe rolled out of the way of the counterattack, still maintain his own barrage of obscurity. He felt that his mana level was high, but he didn't want to risk running low. Since he couldn't hurt the Sage, Joe moved the power from damage to brightness, which cost less mana. This way he could sustain it.

The Sage changed his attack as well. Joe felt the ground beneath him altering into a certain colorful, pulsating stone, the results of which he knew rather well.

"******** dove forward, aided by a quick burst of wind. He almost made it out of the blast zone. The explosion caught his legs and ripped them forward, flipping him head over heels and slamming him into a wall. With a cough, he struggled up and dove behind cover. "Siber! Hurry!" He was running out of time.

The aftershock of the still-in-the-air fragments of stone riddled his cover with more shards.
Except the one that had caught in Joe's flesh in his calf. That one tore his leg, immobilizing him until he could heal it.
Renard, on his part, launched the Sage into the air with kinetics. Without the mobility magic of Archsages and Acolytes in the Sage military, he would hopefully shatter his legs landed from the drop, which Renard estimated would be about twenty feet.

Samuel saw an opportunity when he glanced down and saw that most of the battle area was obscured in smoke. Vaulting over the low wall on the edge of the building, Samuel used wind to direct his fall as he drew his sword. He landed roughly halfway between the two primary combatants, breaking his momentum with a short burst of flame. He spoke the words to the shield and advanced through the smoke towards Joe.

Joe cried out when he tried to move. With a grunt, Joe put his hand down and ripped the shard out. He was in the process of healing it when he looked up and saw Sam. "Sam! What the ********, man? What are you doing?" Joe finished a hasty healing job; it would hold until he forced it to rip again. "Thanks Renard," Joe said as he stood warily. He charged his energy, but he was hesitant to attack Sam without provocation.

Samuel looked at Joe with an amused smile and replied as he walked towards him. "Not much, Joe. Just fulfilling promises. Fulfilling promises..." Samuel came to a halt just in front of Joe, lifted his sword, and thrust it through Joe's shield, which tore apart in colorful patterns around the tip of the sword.

((I figure I'll probably drop the proverbial axe and literal sword some time in at most a day if nobody responds. I suppose that'll put this part of Cabal on hold for now. Characters who are unlikely to respond: Fyrin. He's more focused on the uberdestructomage and as far as he can even really see, it's just two tools of the most militant factions of the Council going at it, which is more or less routine. Renard. He has standards, but he is still a soundly evil-aligned demon. Samuel: Well duh. xd ))
