The Protoss are the legendary race that the Oblivion Sith base much of their void, Force, and eugenic science upon. As such, their pure technology is very advanced- so much that it makes even the Mirai look like children. It is unknown how many of their systems work, to the point of being classified "Mysterious and nigh-magical."

Protoss holographic technology
The Protoss have perfected Holographics to the point of creating near-solid displays (Which the Sith have encorporated) and similarly solid Holograms (Which has not been able to be duplicated.) Similarly, there are no apparent projectors needed to cast said visions.

Tacitus:
The Tacitus is a data storage artifact of the Protoss. It contains much info on the science and technology of the different Protoss factions, primarily the Scrin. Unfortunately it is incomplete and hard to read when activated because half of it is missing, stolen a long time ago. This is similar to how a computer program malfunctions when missing an important file. However, someone skilled could eventually sift out some information.

Buzzers:
The terrifying 'Buzzers' constitute the Scrin's basic anti-infantry units. Buzzers are created in small swarms, with experiments with captured Scrin hardware demonstrating that they may be created quickly and cheaply. Swarms remain together and are guided by what seems to be a limited sentience. Each individual Buzzer is like a floating, high-powered buzzsaw capable of tearing through flesh and light infantry armour plating. Multiple swarms are able to horrifically rip through infantry units. In addition, the Scrin are known to 'combine' their terrestrial vehicles with Buzzer swarms, so that the Buzzers travel with the vehicle and are able to move off and attack enemy infantry when necessary.

Model Number/Ship Designation: Protoss Science Vessel

Name: Unknown

Length: ~15 km

Beam: ~15 km

Height: ~25 km

Crew Capacity: Unknown

Accomodation: Sizable

Company: Sentinel Drones; Buzzer Swarms; 1x Tacitus Archive

Powerplant: Void Core - An advanced, experimental power plant not available to the Scrin for unknown reasons. The Void Core apparently draws energy from some portion of the Void, but it is not known how. This device was presumably a well kept secret of the Protoss faction controlling the ship, a secret that was purged from the ship's records when the ship fell to the Scrin.

Propulsion: Unknown

Armament: Unknown

Special Features: Command AI governing all ship's systems; Subsystem AI's govern smaller portions of the ship, but answer to the Command AI

History/Description: This vessel of the 'True Protoss' (apparently, nearly all factions of Protoss claim this title) was a research ship attempting to culture a proliferate species (humans) found in this galaxy into a viable subclass of warriors.

The ship was attacked by a rival faction, called the Scrin, who attempted to take the ship. However, in their violent seizure, events were set into motion that lead to the loss of containment of one of the experiments designed to use a viral agent to make the human species more robust. This resulted in the Command AI taking actions of its own to ensure that the infection did not reach the galactic populace and the eventual deaths of all on board.

In the Scrin assault, their own ship was destroyed and they were forced to board this ship and establish their own systems. They had successfully installed their Tacitus Archive, but had yet to link it to the ship's systems when they discovered the Protoss experiment and fell victim to it.

The Command AI recognized a passing Randir ship as belonging to the Protoss and deactivated its cloaking device. This in turn allowed a previously contained dampening field to spread to a one quarter parsec radius.

The Metaphage Virus
*INCOMPLETE*

For centuries, various slave races had served the Protoss in different capacities but on the whole they remained too weak or undisciplined to make effective warriors. Many various factions of Protoss sought to remedy this in a myriad of various research projects, primarily involving genetic mutation. One of the most fruitful methods involved the use of an artificial virus termed Metaphage.

A sample of Metaphage in purple dye:

A Metaphage virus was an artificial nano-machine assembled atom by atom for a specific purpose, inducing specific mutation in organic tissue. These mutations were very often unstable, either leading on to further mutation or resulting in the death of the exposed organic tissue. The frequency and scale of mutation necessitates a hyperactive metabolism that in turn induces carnivorous behavior, thus resulting in Metaphage typically proving inviable in plant life. Clinical tests showed a probability of 60% for further mutation, 35% for death, and 5% for producing a stable, viable organic specimen. Exposure was then classified into nine stable stages of mutation, which were identifiable points along the chain of exposure that correlated to these probabilities.

Stage I: During this stage, the Metaphage augments the specimen's metabolism to the point of total organ failure, resulting in the apparent death of the specimen. Shortly after this time, the Metaphage induces renewed synaptic and nervous response. The specimen now displays no higher intelligence, acting only on the primal instinct to feed. Specimens in this stage have no pain response and extremely low cell regeneration resulting in widespread necrosis, muscle and bone weakness, and often the loss of sensory and other organs not directly involved in metabolism. Stable Pre-Stage I specimens have normal or above normal cell regeneration and do not appear extraordinary but are capable of extraordinary feats and reflexes.

Stage II: Stage II Specimen exhibit basic social skills and rudimentary communication. Such specimen can be identified by this and by the specimen's stable or near stable cell regeneration. These specimen used tools and weapons, possess above average strength and reflexes, and are sentient. However, they possess below average intelligence and limited sapience, if present at all. A specimen is impulsive, acting for instant gratification and only to satisfy basic needs food and reproduction. Specimen are communal and territorial, hunting in groups and typically establishing regular hunting grounds. Some specimen and groups have displayed nomadic tendencies, but only rarely.
User Image

Stage III: Stage III is characterized by cell replication out-pacing cell death, resulting in new cell generation. Stage III Specimens have significantly increased bone and muscle density as well as neural activity well above average that results in extraordinary intelligence. Specimens often also display early extraneous growths such as claws, horns, fangs, and scales. Specimens are territorial, communal, and social, but will not voluntarily associate with Stage I and II Specimens.
User Image

Stage IV: Stage IV Specimens are the most balanced hybrid between humans and Stage IX Specimens. But for an indomitable spirit of fierce independence, they could be argued to be the perfect super soldier. Stage IV Specimens possess ultra-dense skin, musculature, and bone structures. Additionally, the specimen's visual spectrum shifts slightly to include some infrared. They are characterized by the maximization of neural activity which result in basic psychic abilities such as hearing and broadcasting thoughts. Stage IV's compete with eachother for territory and control of packs of Stage II and III specimens. This is distinguishing characteristic of Stage IV, the compulsion to lead lower stages. Stage IV specimens lose gender distinction and are driven only by appetite and an apparent compulsion to control territory and organisms.
User Image

Stage V: Stage V is defined by the final transition away from homo sapien by the shedding of the last human tissues and the total mutation of previously pristine sensory organs. Visually, the human skin tissue begins to withdraw and shred off. Additionally, the specimen's visual spectrum shifts fully into the infrared range. Stage V Specimen's are capable of communication but suffer paranoid psychosis and typically remain silent or ramble meaninglessly. They are solitary and anti-social, driven by a need to feed and also an apparent nihilism that compels a penchant for wanton destruction.

Zero Stage: Zero Stage Specimens are stable organisms which have either surpassed the nine stages or due to unpredictable causes have followed alternate mutational paths. This most commonly occurs with the introduction of extra-species genetic material or when a stable state is reached between stages.

Scrin Ichor Augments (IA):
This is the results of the Scrin's genetic mutation research
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Stage One: Initiate
While lacking in intelligence and mental processing, they are highly endurant and strong, becoming deadly foes in hand to hand combat. They are capable of using simple weapons. Unlike the higher stages, they lack any visible cybernetic augmentation and as such they can be considered simple Ichor mutants. They were used as research and development base for further augmentation.

Stage Two: Acolyte
The Acolyte was the first successful result, as the Initiate lacked the mental capacity to understand and obey complex orders.

Extremely skinny, with patches of muscle visible on his body. Most are lost limbs due to Ichor poisoning and the Scrin replaced them with mechanical prosthetics. Their heads were partially embedded in a metal helmet grafted onto the skull with a single red lens responsible for the sense of sight. In extreme cases, the brain was exposed and clearly visible. They are capable of using weaponry like a regular soldier.

Stage Three: Paragon
Genetically and bio-chemically engineered to be the perfect soldiers, possessing dense musculature, a phenomenal resistance to injury and superhuman data processing skills and tactical acumen. As befitting their status, Paragons bear the best body armor and weaponry that the Scrin can create. Except for a breathing apparatus, they lack any other visible cybernetic augmentation.

Stage Four: Awakened
This is the final stage of augmentation. What flesh remains is 100% Ichor infused, the rest is cybernetic. Their weaponry consist of an EMP cannon and Spitfire Laser Capacitors that is a "hand-held" version of the generic Protoss beam tech that the PN Obelisk technology is based on.
