All I know is that my grandpa had some sort of mental disorder. During his time (the 1960s) they just kinda locked him up in a mental hospital for awhile, I know he attempted to kill his daughter though. My mother became really depressed a couple years ago. So, depression and some other mental disorder are in my family.

"Insanity runs in my family. It practically gallops."
--Arsenic and Old Lace
To give them some modicum of anonymity, I won't name relationships, but I have people in my family who've:
-Burnt down more than one of their houses -Had hallucinations -Repeatedly threatened to hang themselves -Cannot stop scrubbing the sinks or toilet, wash their clothes constantly and take several long showers a day (and refuse to see a doctor) -Spent thousands of dollars on home improvement projects that never got finished; cleaned rooms by throwing out everything in them -Pulled their hair out in clumps; bashed head against wall; pulled knife on sister -Been hospitalized for anorexia and possibly bulimia -Cut themselves or otherwise self-harmed
I think that's it... neutral

From what I know, I'm the only person who has a mental illness, but I have a nephew with some form of autism. There may be a family connection there because I also have autism spectrum disorder.
I had an uncle who was a severe alcoholic, and other relatives who are a few drinks from becoming alcoholics. I had a cousin who commited suicide. No one knows why, but we think she had postpartum depression.

Depression, self harm, mania, psychosis, alcoholism, autism and suicide attempts. In a way I like it, it makes me feel like less of a freak.

Depression, ADD/ADHD, addictive personality, hypertension, insomnia, bipolar disorder, dementia, psychosis, borderline personality disorders, suicidal tendencies and a touch of OCD.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. But I agree with dizzyjess. It kinda makes me feel better that I know what's coming at me.

It kinda makes me feel better that I know what's coming at me. i find it can make communication with my family easier too. Because most of what I've got upto and gone through is nothing new, it takes the edge off it. Its great to be able to talk to my aunt about things because she understands, I appreciate that a lot.

I remember the last major breakdown I had...I suppose it was a panic attack of sorts...it was in front of several extended family members and I remember my aunt hugging me and telling me my cousin was the same way.

Five generations of depression on my Mum's side... My Dad is so messed up because his father is... And even though I'm the only one who's bad enough to see a shrink, my brother and sister have cut at some point too...
So, yeah. Does that count?

My father had depression and is an alcoholic. My grandfather on my mother's side was an alcoholic. My sister is an alcoholic.
