Okay, to start out, how many of you out there have tried to use a pick up line to get a girl? Been slapped across the face or told to go to hell, I suppose. Take it from a person who's seen it happen time and time again. PICK UP LINES ALMOST NEVER WORK!!!! The reaction isn't how the liberal media portrays them (Or the ABC network for that matter.)
Ladies, ever look for Prince Charming, but all you seem to find is Joe Schmoe. You know, that disgusting guy always asking you out, but you are just too polite to tell him to go away, or you do and he still keeps coming back, thinking that quitters never win?
Yeah, I've seen it happen also. But ask anyone-In real life or online, I'm one of Gaia's nicest people. I'll give this class a try, but Shiomizu will be mainly teaching, I'll add my input when needed or help him if he seems to be going off a cliff with what he is teaching and not working it right.

Dalkio walks in carrying a large poster and goes to hang it on the wall. The poster says:
Speech
Breathe Control
Use your Diaphragm!
When you inhale your stomach should go out, and when you exhale your stomach should come in. You can practice this by lying on your back.
Five Aspects of Speech Diction Quality Pitch Volume Rate
Diction
- Def: Refers to the selection and pronunciation of words and their combinations in speech. - Be sure to use all of your articulators: teeth, tongue, lips, jaw, and soft palate. Hold your nose or tongue to see the affect your articulators have on your speech. - Make sure your vowel and consonant sounds are clearly spoken and not mumbled over.
Quality
- Def: Individual sound of one’s voice. - Resonance (Def): Tone produced when sound waves strike the chambers of the throat, head, nose, and mouth. - Nasal cavity (Don’t speak from here) - Most Americans speak from the nasal cavity. - Don’t speak from the throat either - The quality of your voice can indicate emotion and/or age.
Pitch
- Def: Relative highness or lowness of the voice at any given time. - Relax your throat! - Speak from your soft palate. (Soft part of the top of the mouth.) - Remember to speak with palate (easy to regulate pitch when you don’t run out of breathe or strain your throat) - Pitch is great for showing emotion - Rise in pitch also adds to the interest of a scene. - Dropping the pitch can be just as effective. - Inflection is key (Def: Varity in pitch) YOU MUST USE INFLECTION IN YOUR VOICE WHEN SPEAKING: NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR MONOTONE. DON’T BE AFRAID TO BE A LITTLE INFORMAL OR DRAMATIC WHEN SPEAKING OR READING TO PEOPLE!!! Remember nobody wants to listen to a human doing a robot impression all the time.
Rate
- Def: The speed at which words and sentences are said. - Breathe - Slow down - Faster = more intense - Slower = calm, tragic, dramatic. - Also rate is very good in comedy, for example if you’ve ever seen someone go on a long rant or some such. - Going from high to low rates quickly can draw the listener’s attention.
Volume
- Def: Relative strength, force, or intensity with which sound is made. - Relax your throat (It’s here again: breathe with diaphragm and speak with soft palate) - Explosive - Expulsive - Relation to emotions High = fear, excitement Strong Emotions Low = Calm, serene
