The big white owl drifted silently through the forest, just a ways outside the eastern border of Noctua. It just so happened he had left home not more than a few hours earlier, off for another hunt. He had heard vague rumors about something odd having been spotted near the canopy, but he thought little of it. He'd been a hunter for some time and had never seen anything out of the ordinary...and even if something odd did happen, he would always have his trusty little chirop to help him scout things out.

The little creature flew slightly above Cierzo, blending in much better than it's master did in the dark forest. The big white owl landed easily on a branch, and watched the chirop flutter away, knowing he wouldn't go too far. He took a moment to scan the floor, hoping for something large, a rat perhaps. One time, with Cricket's aid, he had found a young rabbit sleeping beneath a bush, that had been an excellent catch. Seeing nothing, he took to the air again, drifting through the black night like a phantom.

It seemed he might have to move further out tonight, he thought, as he set upon another branch some time later, having had no luck. He had spied a few rather runtish Mus, but he often overlooked those in the hopes of being able to carry home something bigger.

Almost without warning, there's another Sentinel suddenly flying on Cierzo's wingtip, just to the left. It's a big Mist male, un-dyed but still recognizable as Sleet-- who, at the moment, is off duty. The lieutenant looks to be in a good mood; certainly he's not usually this friendly:

"Ho!" Sleet dips one wing in greeting, glancing over at the other Mist male. "If you're hunting, do you mind if I join you?" As they drift between the trees, Sleet paces Cierzo politely. "I've had reports of a herd of deer nearby-- with two of us, we could take down a small one if you're interested." And that is meat enough for both of them, for days and days, as well as delivering some to Minders and Teachers for storage.

The mist gave just a small start, as it was something hadn't been expecting. He wondered why Cricket hadn't called out to him, though maybe the little bat had simply found no threat in the other sentinel. Cierzo had always taught the creature to be quiet around others unless he had a message or if he was spoken to first. He was bent on avoiding the chirop being devoured by someone else.

Regardless, Cierzo realized who it was almost immediately. The sheer size of the other mist colored sentinel meant that it could only be Sleet, the Brigadier's lieutenant. He'd never met the owl before, but he had heard of him and was glad he would be able to get acquainted. "Good evening!" he called back, looking over at the other sentinel. Usually he'd act rather cold with other hunters, but he knew of the lieutenant and granted him a friendly sort of respect.

"I am, and I wouldn't mind at all." he replied. As Sleet spoke , his brows raised. He had never taken down that large a prey item before. "That sounds like a plan! Lead the way." he said, eager to act on the elite's offer.

"Excellent." So saying, Sleet tilts his wings slightly and alters his course to take them on a path towards the deer sighting. It isn't often that Sentinels hunt prey so large, but when they do (and they're successful) it's cause for quite a celebration.

But why has the Elite leader suddenly shown up on Cierzo's wingtip with a hunting invitation? Sleet knows most of the Hunters, Rangers, Gatherers, and Scouts by sight if not by name. He knows who shows leadership potential, who is the most adept at spotting game trails, and who is particularly brave when on the forest floor. The large male recruits for the Elites by his own obscure criteria, and 'hunting invitations' are just as often innocent as they are a pointed test of skill.

Sleet says nothing of his intentions, however, whatever they may be. He's silent for a moment or two before glancing over towards the other Mist. "How has your hunting been lately?" It's not so much friendly chit-chat as a subtle request for a full report on game availability. Unfortunately.

Cierzo nodded, feeling his heart pound a little in his chest. He'd never expected something like this to happen, and in the back of his mind he knew of the opportunity that might present itself, if he managed to impress the elite. He brushed those thoughts aside so as to focus, eyes continuously sweeping the area for signs of the deer. He had actually seen them before in the past, but had never considered trying to take one down, because he only hunted by himself. This would definitely be interesting.

He blinked as he was jarred from his silent search by the question. He hesitated in more thought for a moment before supplying the elite with a response.

"To tell the truth, sir, it's been average. I usually fly home with a few good kills every couple of nights." he said, hoping his answer would suffice. He took in at least one or two good catches a night, whether they were large, fat rabbits or the birds that nested upon the forest floor, or other prey. "I try to take as much as I can carry, but that doesn't happen often. But it's been a long while since I haven't found something worth catching..." he said with a nod. He knew it wasn't good to come home empty handed and always tried his best on the hunt.

((@_@ Sorry if any of this is inaccurate. I'm not sure what is a normal prey count for a hunter. Correct me if I'm wrong <3))

Sleet's response to the report is an almost absent-minded nod, but the information has all been filed away and will be reported to the Wardens later as a part of a hunting census. There is always concern about the amount of available game, especially with the huge amounts of new hatchlings that the Clan has to feed. "Excellent."

He says little else for the moment; the Lieutenant is focused, as Cierzo had been, on any signal from below. His head sweeps back and forth like a radar dish, ready to pick up even the faintest of sounds-- or sights-- coming from the direction of the forest floor. The deer are ahead. Both Sentinels should be skilled enough to pick up the faint sounds of scratching on bark, and indeed Sleet angles his wings to take them more directly towards the noise.

"Choose your target: head or neck," Sleet calls softly, barely audible over the wind. He does not spare Cierzo a glance. It won't be long now until their prey is in sight.
