It had begun. The stone had begun to roll down the hill, and it was up to Faile and her mate to give it momentum. The black she-wolf felt the responsibility keenly. A pack of their own was her idea, and if it failed, the fault would be hers no matter what had caused the fall. But a pack was nothing without its members, and the first place she figured that she should start was at home. With her son, to be precise. "Eiros?" she called, padding out of the den.
"...What?" came the sullen reply, in a tone that was almost, but not quite a growl. Eiros slunk out of the nearby shadows, pale blue eyes piercing as the gazed at his mother. Often haunted by memories of the battle that had fractured their family, the shadowy grey male was leaner than most. Despondence had given way to an almost savage determination...but it was an unfocused determination, with no target, no goal. Not yet.
"We need to talk," Faile said simply, curling her tail about her paws as she sat. "Or rather, I need to ask you something. Will you listen to what I have to say?" Her gaze was fixed upon Eiros, intent.
Eiros shrugged. "Might as well." What did he have to lose? Not much, anymore. Vashti seldom came around anymore, and cringed at the sight of him when she did. All he had left were those that had borne him...he owed it to them to listen.
"Your father and I are leaving here. He has agreed to become my beta. We hope to leave this place soon, and find a place with...less memories, for all of us." Less pain, as well. It would be better for all of them, perhaps especially Eiros. "Will you come?"
The shadow-grey male shrugged loosely as he rolled onto his side. "Where else would I go?"
