The sky was clear and the sun was beating down so hard it made any dark pelted wolf pant instantly after stepping out of the shade. This was something that the traumatized wolf could not handle, she needed immediate release from one of the pains hitting her, outside of her pack. It had been a couple of days, she should have been over this by now. Her father certainly was pleased with the Shaman's retreat to the shadows, which to see him happy and regain her trust with him was nice. It was the gloating from him that she could not take. Though she did agree to choose her next mate based upon his standards and with his blessings.

On a nice brisk run the red and black tribal printed female went, following the stream coming from the ocean at her territory. All of the issues came rushing back to her the farther away from the pack she ran, the exact opposite of what she was trying to accomplish. Up ahead was a great lake, perfect to cool her off.

Pushing her well toned muscles harder the female picked up speed and dive bombed into the lake thanking her lucky stars that the spot she jumped into was a bit deep.

The relief of the cold water was instant. Under the water she stayed as long as she could, but eventually had to resurface. Once she did she shook her head from water and looked around for any other signs of life at the waters edges.

Glancing at the sun with squinted eyes, the fiery young male heaved a heavy sigh and turned his gaze once again over his shoulder, ever expecting his enormous alpha to appear over the horizon to call him back home.

But each time he looked, no one was there.

The emptiness of the plains behind him was a double edged sword. Joy fought with sorrow within him, and a low whimper escaped his parched throat. Half of him knew that his adopted pack were giving him the space and time to figure things out he had claimed he needed, and yet the other half of him whispered in his ear, wondering why no one had followed him. Did they not care about him enough to keep an eye on him? He was barely into adulthood after all . . . His young, lean form still in the process of growing into his long legs.

With a vigorous shake of his body, he set his sights forward and into the thick trees ahead, determined to continue on his path to discovering who he was. And maybe discovering a drink somewhere . . .

Vianna looked to the horizon for the answer to the questions she felt as if she'd never again have the strength to ask to anyone accept the wind. Her blue eyes were tired of sheading tears over that unfaithful wolf she believed she had shared her life force with.

What she longed for right now was another to speak with, one whom knew not of her epic love affair with the wolf whos name would no longer be spoken in her presence. Perhaps even eventually feel the embrase of another wolf as well, one to please her father with.

God that was just it, her father. She dunked her head into the water which she was so carelessly treading, then shook her head about free from most of it. Ajax, the female's father would love to see her strong and single. Perhaps that would be as she should stay. Males don't mean that much, they were only good for two things. One in which she had not experianced, and the other was something she had gotten too much of, trouble.

The firey red male caught her eye, a teen. For a moment he was the two toned shaman from the past, but the colors quickly dismissed that hope. The former hope turned into shame, like a fire being quickly pissed on to avoid any light disbursment by the shadows.

With a long and heavy sigh, the fmale began to wismtowards the shore where she entered, near the incoming teen. Then it hit, worse than any pain she had felt before, a cramp in both her hine legs. Quickly she
whined and barked for help. "CRAMP! Someone!---Hee----LP!"

Faelan froze, sensing another's presence and the panic of being spotted slammed into his chest. He fought to stay calm, and used his peripheral vision to try and pinpoint the other wolf's location. His nose twitched enough to take in the scents on the wind, revealing to him that it was a slightly older female, who seemed very upset.

The cry for help nearly sent him skittering. Wide eyed, he whipped his head around towards the noise, the sounds of panicked splashing ringing in his ears.

Lurching forward, he leapt through the underbrush and nearly into the lake before he realized it was that close.

He must have really been day-dreaming to not realize that he was so near water.

Reacting on instinct and obviously not self-preservation, he dove into the water, swimming as fast as possible towards the floundering female, but he had only made it half-way when her head suddenly disappeared beneath the surface.

"NO!" Diving, he let his thoughts clear, let his body guide him through the murky water until he suddenly felt a body brush against the pads of his feet. Snarling in triumph, he snapped his jaws closed on her ruff and shot towards the surface, fighting back the urge to inhale, ignoring the searing pain in his lungs and chest as he swam harder than he ever had in his life.

But the surface seemed so far away, and his vision started to spin, darkness starting to bleed in at the edges like an early evening fog. His lungs felt ready to burst, the weight of the female suddenly too much for his jaws to handle. He felt them start to sink, and his inner turmoil returned, that dark part of his doubting self snarling at him for being too young and too weak to save a single wolf . . . .

And then the darkness swallowed him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blinking his green eyes open, the young male suddenly sputtered, hacking up great gulps of lake water, his throat and nose burning as he sucked in as much air as he could, the sand and pebbles of the shore beneath his paws of little importance. Only when he tried to flop onto his side and landed on a water logged form did he realize that the female was next to him, fighting for air just as much as he was.
He had . . . made it? The thought made him want to whoop with joy, but exhaustion and the sudden absence of adrenaline left him nothing more than a twitching, panting heap.
Some hero he was.
Spitting out the remaining choked up water from her lungs, Vianna opened up her watery blue eyes and looked around for her hero, hoping to see Adolfo. But the wolf gasping for air next to her didn't resemble him in the slightest bit. But she was also thankful for that on the second thought. Was this.. A teen wolf that dragged her out of the water?
The only thing that the female knew of was this heroic lifeforce that lay next to her. Nothing of his blundering or any of his self doubt he had gone through in order to save her very delicate life. The life of the female was saved by this young teenage wolf.
A final blow from her lungs allowed her to one again move. Slowly she sat up, then whimpered a bit and decided that laying down for now would be the best option.
How could this little teen have saved her life? She cocked her head looking at him still. Clearing her throat she spoke as clearly as she possibly could in her slighly weak state.
"Thank you..." How lame did that sound? The female's life was just saved, but all he could say was thank you?! A very sincere smile was offered as another open token of apreciation.
To Vianna, the words were lame and lacking, but to a young male wolf that instinctually sought any means of praise? Those two words meant the world to him and swelled his pride.
Supressing a cough, he turned his head to look at her, and even that seemed too taxing for his exhausted body. He did, however, manage a small smile, but his eyes slipped closed of their own accord, sleep threatening to take him away.
"Don't mention it . . . " With that, he slipped into an exhausted slumber, his last thought being thankful that the sun was still beating down on him and that he wouldn't freeze.
Feeling extremely debted to this wolf whom fully exerted himself saving her, Vianna knew she had to do something. But what? After the teen passed out she looked around and slowly stretched out her legs enjoying the wait for the pain to go away.
The feeling of wanting to do something for another wolf was one she had not felt since -he- left the pack. Now it was consuming her! What to be done? Surely she could not leave him there on the bank of the lake, and taking him back to the pack was out of the question to say the least.
For what seemed like hours the black and red female laid there regaining her strength, while her loyalty to her passed out companion grew. Sure, half way through her waiting she could have left him, but the strong sense of morality in her didn't allow her that choice.
As the sun was beginning to set she raised to her feet and stretched out. The shadows knew her well, it was not a feeling she was welcomed in the company of loneliness. They watched her as she scouted out a safe spot for the two to rest further. After she had found such a spot she pushed around the leaves covering the area into two little piles. A painful sloppy his and hers so to speak.
Grabbing the scruff of the teen she carefully pulled him to a safe little nook beneath a bent over tree and laid down once again as carefully as she could this time so she would not wake him. Him on one pile of leaves and her on the other. After the fight for her life, they both deserved the little extra comfort.
There she would lay as long as it took for her little hero to awake once again, keeping a watchful eye into the shadows and over the fading horizon.
Green as grass eyes flickered open just as the sun winked a final time, slipping below the horizon. Lifting his head, the young male peered around, shifting until he lay more or less upright. The leaves rustled beneath him and he glanced down at them, then around at his location, noting that someone had moved him.
Rising onto stiff legs, he shook his sore body, his fur crusty and matted. Grumbling irritably, he set about grooming himself, trying to ignore the memories it conjured.
The last time he had groomed himself like this, he had been with his pack.
His ears twitched at every noise, and he kept glancing around in between licks, wary about his surroundings, and wondering not for the first time where the femme he had helped had gone.
He was hungry too, and that just made him grumpier.
Expecting that the hunger which had come to Vianna would be mutual once the teen which had saved her came to, once her muscles stopped hurting the adult went hunting a bit of grub.
On her return she brought with her a raccoon and a possum, not the best but it was food. But she just really enjoyed killing possums, they were nasty beasts when alive and ugly even in death. Coming upon the resting spot she saw a spot of life in the red and yellow male.
She gave an disalarming bark through the tails of the beasts she brought back. It couldn't be helped, her tail was wagging a little bit as she got closer to him. There was a spot of fondness she felt for any valiant wolf, most of all this one at the moment.
After the food was laid to the ground she laughed a little seeing that he had begun to clean himself. It took her nearly half an hour to get all of her knots out, most annoying task she'd ever endured.
"I'm Vianna... And I do believe I owe you my life... Are you hungry?"
