"Eyes tired... Ears tired... Nose tired... Resting soon?"

A soft voice complained in the night, but it was calm and timid. The light and dark gray mus clung to the leather necklace that looped about her master's neck. Mus was far from a timid creature, but Osprey was a hard and diligent worker and asking for a break sometimes received a reprimand of some sort or another.

Usually she was told just to suck it up, but Osprey's wings were beginning to ache. A small break wouldn't hurt too much and if any sentinel passed, she would claim that she heard something rustling below. That should suffice a bit, at least.

"Fine... But just for a little bit, Mus. There's lots to do tonight."

Osprey settled with ease on a sturdy spruce limb and went about setting her feathers as she had learned from Madame Breeze. Her dark beak ran through the light, mist feathers of her body with a quick precision.

She was traveling to the North, an area that she had rarely been in. The temperature here seemed lower, which she was enjoying.

"Wind: due cold, about...double normal speed? Temperature balmy, for the region...All calm," Edelweiss mumbled to himself, mentally filing the report away to be given the next time he was due in. Little went on of late in the canyon he called home, the change in temperature less noticeable here where it was always cold than in the more not-cold directions. The older scout shifted on his perch, fluffing himself up against the cold before taking a quick preen and leaping from his perch to circle the area he'd become accustomed to hunting in.

One good thing about the winter crawling closer was that most of the little mice and animals he fed on had grown fat for the season. Maybe he'd get lucky and even find something bigger, something that would last. Like a rabbit or a raccoon...

Of course, a Sentinel was also big, though not food. He banked in his flight, catching a glimpse of unfamiliar plumage. Whoever it was had stopped short of his home territory by a half-day's flight, but he couldn't help his curiosity. New neighbors...? He lit onto a branch a few trees away and hooted a questioning greeting. "Hello...Hello, I'm here!" He called.

Ossie had been about to say something snarky to the little companion, her extra set of eyes and ears, but something caught her attention. The hoot of another was far more important than carrying on an argument with a creature she could easily swallow in a single gulp, and she was glad for a brief distraction from her work.

She didn't realize how lonesome being on the combatant task might be, but then again, she was still used to being surrounded by agemates in the Enclave or with Holly and Breeze.

"Hello!" She greeted back with a cheerful greeting hoot. She blinked her golden eyes and turned to face the male that had landed not so far away. He was a handsome fellow and the lack of vibrant dyies or needless accessories made her only assume that he was either a combatant or a watcher, and his posture just shrieked combatant to her.

"G'd eve, sir! Find night for hunting and scouting, eh?"
