It was a very quiet night. Atticus peered around curiously into the quiet forest, wondering what it was that had silenced the noise. The sky was cloudy, completely overcast. Without the light of the moon, the forest was dark indeed. Atticus assumed that many of the other sentinels in the area were doing what he was doing: staying at home. He'd had no requests for a visit, so he was free to do as he pleased.
Finch, his mus companion, was curled up in his corner, sound asleep. He always seemed to do that on cloudy days. Clucking his beak softly, Atticus shook his head, and flew up to one his favorite outlooks. His home was a beautiful space where two trees had grown too close together, twining around each other. There were several wonderful places for him to simply sit and watch, making up new songs and stories in his head. That was what he planned on doing.

As a Ranger, Oakbark tended not to pay much attention to territory, except when she was in the Deep Woods. The residents here tended to be a little touchier about that, given the greater likelihood of being challenged, and she didn't have time to be fussed at over something ridiculous. Still, increased awareness didn't mean taking the time to go around - she just paid a little more attention.
To be completely honest, she disliked the Deep Woods, and couldn't fathom why anyone would want to live so close to other Sentinels. She'd only come here driving game, and was already in a hurry to get home to her territory near the mountains.
She winged her way swiftly through the trees - the sooner she was out of here, the better!

((So I am definitely out of it today. They were nice enough to point out that sentinels were NOCTURNAL, so I changed the title and my first post. Sorry about that Meep. ^^;; <3))
The sound of wingbeats nearby caught Atticus's attention. His gaze found another sentinel flying swiftly through the air nearby. Very swiftly. He frowned, wondering where they needed to go in such a hurry. He wasn't normally prone to curiosity, but since there was nothing to do, and because it was so quiet, he wondered if it meant some sort of threat in the area. If so, he needed to find out.
He called out quietly, launching himself off of the branch to fly close to where the other sentinel was flying.
"Excuse me, I'm very sorry to bother you," he called over to her, as he noticed now that the other sentinel was a female, "But, I was wondering why are flying so fast? Is there some sort of threat in the forest?" he asked, worried.

Ugh! Spotted! With a grunt and a distinctly unpleasant expression, Oakbark slowed her flight, turned, and landed opposite the male. She didn't bother to mask her impatience, or her disapproval at being stopped, no matter how understandable it was. She had things to do! Namely, getting out of here.
"No," she said shortly. She might have just called back such an answer and flown on, but pursuit would have been even more aggravating.

Atticus blinked a few times, his feathers a bit ruffled by her abrupt and rather rude answer. Still, it was obvious that she was going somewhere in a hurry and he had slowed her down. Regaining his calm, Atticus smiled in relief, glad that there was, at least at the moment, no dangerous threat.
"Again, I'm very sorry to have disturbed you during your flight, Madame, but if there had been a threat, it would have been helpful to have warning. Please, forgive me," he said, with a respectful bob of the head.
