While yes, San Diego is very diverse and everyone goes everywhere, there is a concentration of ethnic groups among the sections of the county.

Mira "Manila" mesa: A great many indians and pacific islanders live here. This is the best place to find the coveted 'lumpia' (filipino-style egg roll).

Convoy street "Asianland"- Yes, just one street. It is a mix between residential and business, and has Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese, Taiwan, and Japanese food and stores up and down it. Want real ramen? How about some Fro-yo(frozen yogurt)? Perhaps you'd just like your picture taken in one of those little booths and then go to a karaoke bar after getting a cup of boba? No problem! Just go to Asianland!

University City "The Golden Triangle": This is actually mixed with everything and everyone. UCSD is located on the edge of this little area that is between three major freeways, and because of it, many college students live here. This area is very family oriented. It has three elementary schools and a middle and a high school. In theory, you can complete your entire education up to a PhD without leaving this triangle. It is quiet because UCSD is a study school, not a party school. But everyone comes here for the mall anyways.

Anything south of the 94: Mexicans and African Americans mostly live here. Part of it is because it's so close to the border and therefore inexpensive. I don't really go down there, but when I do, I find the best homemade fried chicken and burritos anywhere.

The College District: This is by SDSU. Need I say more? It is a complete college area, where the girls wear short skirts and Uggs and the guys walk around in their Pj's. Parties every night, and the perpetual smell of a certain plant wafts in the air.

La Jolla: Translated as 'The Jewel'. This area is where the multimillion dollar houses are. Very white section of San Diego, but do not mistake them for being pale. Despite the sun all year round, many people enjoy tanning salons before hitting the beach. This area is always nice and clean, but always packed. You can't really get the best of anything here, though the residents will always be the first to brag. The beaches are very clean, and it's a good place just to have a nice afternoon.

Hillcrest: This is where the gay community mostly is. The youth center is centered around LGBT, and they have support groups and games and all sorts of fun stuff. When walking down the street, people are more surprised at women wearing heels than men wearing heels. This is not to say that there aren't any straight people here, because that's not the case. It's just that most straight people here are also VERY liberal, and VERY artsy-fartsy. Otherwise they'd live in University City or somewhere.
